Just like the music in this part:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPCbsMA5r20
Litterally every Thrasher part uses the same vanilla soul/motown song over and over again. Obviously, it's for monetization purposes but c'mon...

What are you talking about

Hopefully soon. Rarely does this kind of music make me want to watch something when I hear it start in a video.

Soul has no place in skateboarding.

Soul has no place in skateboarding.
Soul music belongs everywhere. Ethan Fowler had a good soul song part. Maybe Trepasso too.
-
There was like 3 years in the mid-2000’s where it seemed like every part had some Motown doo wap song, e.g.:

Edit: cigs and I seem to be on the same wavelength.
-
Not quite the same, but still, this song from the sour solution II video is fucking sick.

;D My comment was a poor attempt at a play on words.
Say… some of my best friends listen to soul music!
But honestly, some recent edits are trying to shoehorn feel-good soul tunes when it frankly just doesn't fit the part—like the editor is trying to trick me into feeling like the part is a bright, happy breath of fresh air in this morass of stinky bad attitude videos. Sorry about it.

this one is best, entire part is switch or nollie. classic
-
I'll drop soul inside your earhole
Add the bassline then I hit you with a fat drum roll
HIT IT

i'd appreciate it if they could also get rid of the bad copyright-free rock music they use for everything that is not soul/motown
-
It's so bad, I would prefer just raw footy to be honest

All they gotta do for that is to get Figgy to stop playing guitar. PLEASE.

people don't actually think that Thrasher is the one picking the music for a Jamie Foy New Balance part, do they? DO THEY????

No one's picking music they like
They pick whatever is available from a collection of royalty-free soul songs
You think Jamie Foy is listening to bottom of the barrel soul tracks being like "yeh this is my jam"
Nike is the exception, they pay for their shit on youtube

I don't think Foy is, but it's DEFINITELY New Balance, not Thrasher that is picking the music. That's why they pick FREE music, so they don't have to pay - Thrasher is just hosting the video, they have nothing to do with any aspect of a brand's video production.

it's slightly better than the shit recordings of some homie of a homie's chode rock or bong metal band they sometimes use

I love monk RIP but grindline: the band can be rough on the ears, and I love alot of crusty punk.
-
Oh hey guys Ocelot doesn't like soul music so you better not pick it for your edits or they'll call it bottom of the barrel.

This is honestly the first time I’ve heard anyone complain about soul music.
Edit: wait no I remember in the movie Ray a lady telling Ray Charles that anything that wasn’t gospel was the Devil’s music. That’s the closest example that comes to mind

Klezmer or Die.

that song is not from some "royalty free music" catalogue and is far from bottom of the barrel, it's a rare single by an artist and is the only record she put out, it's pretty desirable to soul collectors/DJs and has not been reissued...
the only reason they wouldn't have to pay rights is because it is on an obscure label that hasn't been bought out by a major or reissue label (apparently the original masters for many of the labels releases have since been destroyed by a fire), though it is possible the original owners family is still around and aware enough to get paid.
I know what people mean when they say some soul doesn't work well with parts, but I thought this song worked well enough here.

Yup. I mean yes, for the people who don't know what black means, African-American.

The song from the Foy part kept reminding me of Basketball Jones, I was about to start singing about basketballs underneath my pillow

it's actually painful how regular some people are here
Make a complaint about the over-saturation of royalty-free soul music on thrasher parts
"what you don't like black man music?"
-
It's boring if it's not punk

I think it’s a matter of taste... and trends too. Sometimes i feel like some music styles are overused in a period of time in skate videos, but i gotta be thankful for all the kinds of music skate videos introduced me to : punk, rap, soul, electronic music, obscure things or big pop songs...
As a teenager it helped me to open my mind for sure.
So yes you can be annoyed by the overuse of a music style, but there is a lot of diversity in skateboarding and i love that

I'm thankful to have learned what b-side soul music allows monetization on youtube
Truly has opened my mind to more diverse pastures
-
putting music on skate parts has ruined like 99.9% of the footage out there since the beginning.
But somehow people confidently keep doing this.

Come on the problem is not the music in itself !
-
The music could be a lot worse. I wish there was this giant pool of good royalty free soul music out there to pick from. I make about 4 video edits a month and most of my time is spent finding music rather than the edit itself.
-
Ok, still waiting on you to make some amazing music to give to skate companies for them to use for free. Can I listen to some stems you have going?

has anyone skated to a techno song yet? like a real techno song, like wearing assless chaps on the dance floor and suddenly realizing someones cock is up your ass thrusting to the beat type techno.

does anybody remember in the 2005-2008ish era and every was skating to The Meters?

It's on Thrasher's monetized page. YouTube is notoriously efficient at striking content already claimed by another entity.

Was it a Thrasher produced piece or a NB# piece? If NB# was the backer for the project they probably had a bit more money to spend. So maybe NB# paid for music rights allowing thrasher to monetize, so thrasher is making double on this one.

I wonder if you would get guaranteed entry or would you still have to get past this guy:

Somehow I actually did get in Berghain 8 years ago when I was 21 with a group of international students. Then I almost got thrown out immediately when they were patting me down and shouting at me in German and I didn’t know what to do. Lol. Had an amazing time once I got in. Sven was not working the door that night though.
