Fucking Awesome sucks. That bullshit isn't the future. Also since when did other companies not care about pissing people off? Pretty sure every company has had a bout with some questionable graphics or t-shirts.

FA is one of the most original and honest brands out at the moment, they don't play it safe like all the big companies.

I hope they add Olson to the roster too

Just had a quick look at their website in case I was missing something but nope, there is nothing original or honest about their stuff. If you were being sarcastic I apologize.

It doesn't bother me and I never buy "skate apparel" except shop stuff because the prices are so out of bounds for how basic the stuff is, but damn out of all the reasons to possibly hate on FA/BC the price seems like a non issue yet comes up all the time

Yeah, because all of the team except AVE and Terp didn't just have full parts in cherry...

That said, is FA really doing anything to push the boundaries in skating?  They've released two series so far: grade school photos of pros and some embossed black and white logo boards.  I'm glad AVE and Dill doing their own company and doing it super small (even if the name sucks), but let's not preten like they're reinventing the wheel now.

I love Dylan's skating but his thoughts are nothing short of laughable.

Out of ALL people, he's talking about not giving a fuck what other people think? As if EVERY single thing he does isn't a calculated move to portray a certain image whether it be his clothing or his skating. You can't be part of a shitty fucking DKNY ad and then come back to the skate world and talk about how raw you are and how much you don't give a fuck about what other people think.

Also, FA>Bianca Chandon. While there are many similar qualities to the two brands, FA at least has some sort of discernible character/image. Bianca is literally like a collage of other people's ideas (he couldn't even think of a name so he used someone's actual name, LOL), I forgot who said it, but somebody on here said something like AO's brand is Tumblr skateboards and he was right on the money.

That being said, I also really like FA's team so far so that's one reason to support. If they started coming out with more product that was cheaper (which is probably never going to happen), I'd be way down with the brand.

There's not really a set-in-stone art direction at FA so the focus appears to be on the group of kids they rounded up. They have an image and fans already from people all around the world. I guess the closest thing it could be compared to is 80's punk zine graphics or something. But even that is only one part of it (the Crass logo etc)

Random stolen ephemera as a skateboard company.

This is exactly why a 12-year old kid is gonna want the stuff. Inflated price, limited quantities = total status symbol. It's textbook conspicuous consumption, just like when Rocco started selling pre-frayed humungous jeans in the 90s and kids "needed" to look like their favorite pros, but the jeans were never in stock anywhere and when they were they were super out of your price range.

Sure, skateboarding might need change, or to be shaken up every once in a while, but does it really need more stratification and cool cliques? Who the fuck knows! Not me. I'm just a bitter asshole. Fuck it; go skate.

Don't really care for the FA stuff, their apparel was bad and the graphics are mediocre. I feel like Dylan is kind of acting like FA is doing something extremely different where as there is already lots of rad little board companies killing it and being very unique with shapes, branding and art (welcome, polar...). I would rather give my money to a smaller company that has some real art direction and focus (magenta, Isle, Polar...) than FA with some crappy shock value art that Dill pretentiously throws together thinking he's breaking the mold.

This pretty much.

But like Fongstarr. said, I definitely respect dylan. as a skater (he's probably one of my favorites) and with his choices of sponsors.  He definitely seems to believe in the skater owned & operated buzzwords.  And if that means he models on the side to supplement a great skating career, I'd rather have that.  I honestly don't see why people get so up in arms that dylan. and Alex are so into fashion and are willing to take part in campaigns.

along the same lines as someone mentioned in another post regarding riley hawk never having to take corporate sponsors because he comes from money, dylan can cash in on his handsomeness outside of skating in order to "keep it real" inside of skating.

The Art of Fabo

Explore your inner sheffledge. Eat from any of the popular dollar menus at least three times a week. Make sure you eat one fabo meal (filet mignon, foie gras, black truffle, etc) a week, preferably on the weekend. Have girls in bikini at your crib whenever there are guests. Her panties and a t-shirt will suffice if bikinis aren?t available. Take hits of dank endo from either a Ricci or Renfro (R.I.P. doggie) bong with guests. Watch any fabo-approved skate video dating from 1999 and/or earlier. Wear fabo windbreaker pants on your next skate date. Your flatground arsenal must consist of illusion flips, varial flips, and fakie tricks. Get that Jesus Fernandez world cup switch mongo dialed*. Must be at full speed or your fabo levels will disappear once you set up for your next trick. Listen to G. Dep for inspiration. Pray to Quim God.

- Serg

*Jesus Fernandez is not on Fabo Les or associated with Fabo Dist., but his levels are pretty fabo IMH&HO.

I was reluctant about FA at first, but after stepping on a friend's board I loved the shape and now I want one.

It's a Workshop board...same wood...same shapes.

As for the brand, they have ended up being cooler than I thought. However I feel like they putting a lot on their plate too quickly. They currently have 4 pros another dude who will expect to be turned pro soon and how many ams? Nakel, Sage, Sean, Tyshawn, that other kid...

I also feel like its their thing to be super subtle to keep people always wanting more and never giving it. That may work or may just get old after awhile. I don't think they plan on having an official team, like listing them anywhere some dudes might not be into that. The company is still very new and has a long way to go but ultimately I'm psyched on it, not on everything they do and especially not the name but it seems like they are offering something cool to the skateboard world.

FA, Huf, Spitfire, Thunder, Analog, MOB, Jack's Garage, Swiss, Roughneck Hardware

If you don't think Street League is a sponsor you should think twice.

FA sell boards, SL sells ad time.

He also does DKNY ad's which allows him the financial security by going with non-corporate sponsors. Austyn has pretty similar sponsors and doesn't supplement his income by doing modeling.

[close]
The way I see it, that's a fine example of not giving a fuck what other people think

The way FA doesn't give a fuck and the way Dylan "doesn't give a fuck" are very different. In order to be as into fashion as he is, you gotta be very superficial. The whole basis for being a model is caring what other people think about how you look to the extent you actually want people to be looking at you all the time. Meaning he in fact gives a huge fuck about his image, thus negating the idea he doesn't give a fuck. Big difference between FA not giving a fuck and fucking with the conventions of the skateboard industry and Dylan not giving a fuck about what we think about him being obsessed with something as superficial as the fashion/modeling industry.

^ I should have been more specific. I don't believe fa dude's dress lackadaisically at all, obviously their shit is all calculated as well. But I meant the way Dylan was portraying FA to be in the terms of not caring what other people think is in no way equivalent to his so called way of doing so, thus contradicting himself.

I'm a huge fan of both Dylan, Dill, and the rest of the FA team for that matter, but everything else about this brand is just lame. Their image is sophomoric and gimmicky. None of the art has any substance, and quite frankly it's just lazy. Anyone can slap a black and white school photo they found at their mom's house on a board. Not to mention that Dill's been selling those same $90 hoodies for years now when Fucking Awesome was just a weird little streetwear venture. All of the products are just stale and uninspired, which is why I don't understand how anyone could say this brand is better than Bianca Chandon. Even though the majority of AO's products are obscure and eccentric, at least they have interesting roots and a bit of a story behind them. Many people might not agree that dance music and rave culture should be associated with skateboarding, but it's new and a step outside of the ordinary. FA is simply building a brand based off randomness.

To me, it seems like Dill is essentially trying to establish a customer base similar to Odd Future's fans. I'm not really into rap, but last time I checked, no one who actually listens to rap has paid any attention to that group since Tyler, the Creator came out with Goblin. The people who still buy Odd Future's music, clothing, and merchandise are most likely white teens from the suburbs. They're the 13 year olds with weed socks, who had to throw a temper tantrum at Zumiez to get their moms to buy them. Those kids are going to be the ones wearing FA. Their parents will buy them the shirts as long as they promise not to wear it to school. Dill knows that, and he'll be laughing all the way to the bank. But at the end of the day, he'll swear he has the most core intentions in the world for FA.

man some of you are so cynical and over think wayy too much. if its not the Supreme video being the deus ex machina to come and fix skateboarding forever, its how lame someone is for wanting to be different.  why don't you all accept what things are and go do something yourself rather than sulk and complain.  make a brand yourself.

maybe a company also charges 30 bucks for a shirt because its all skater owned with no corporate investor

The way I see it, that's a fine example of not giving a fuck what other people think
[close]

Do you ever have legit arguments with yourself because you're too dumb to come up with an intelligent opinion? The whole basis of being a model is actually the same as being a professional skateboarder. You make something look cool so other people will buy it. This whole argument about people caring or not caring is fucking stupid.

That is a good thing.

I always knew branding/marketing was for idiots. You sound like you need "a brand to tell a story so you can identify with it's message."  You're better off buying Kashi. Enjoy your target markets, focus groups, key demographics, and brand storytelling.

I hope so for his sake because selling limited runs of decks/tees ain't going to be paying the salaries of this team for too long. I wonder if the FA ams even get paid.

You're confusing wanting someone to model your gear so you can create ads (the purpose of the idea of modeling) and actually wanting to be a model. Huge difference.

And you know dylan.'s motivation for going on photoshoots how?  How do you know his girlfriend or friends in the fashion world didn't just say, "Hey man, you wanna get paid for wearing some clothes and getting photos taken of you?"  You don't know if he actively sought out an opportunity or if he's just capitalizing on the opportunities given to him.

Or is it easier to just rely on stereotypes?

I was reluctant about FA at first, but after stepping on a friend's board I loved the shape and now I want one.
[close]

[close]

who is that?
[close]

He probably means Kevin Bradley who had a sick part in the Cliche video last year, footage in the supreme video and will probably go pro if he has a part in chronicles 3. Kid is sick.
[close]

Nope.

couldve sworn terp said on instagram "its gonna be Naks shape"

either TMKF is just joshing us (pardon my salty language) or he's got some insider information...hmmmm

I liked FA back when it was just Dill and that other guy (can't remember who the fuck it was) making shirts for their friends but then selling them at high prices to anyone willing to buy them. I never wanted to pay $30+ for a shirt back then but I still liked what they made. At first I didn't like the idea of FA becoming a board brand but I think with Dylan, Terps, and everyone (Minus Sean Pablo. I still think his style is completely contrived and makes it hard to even watch him skate) is making for a solid team.

I have to ask though...

Does anyone remember that Fucking Awesome promo Dill and that other guy did years ago? I asked before and I don't think anyone knew what I was talking about. Im not sure if it even had any skating in it but I remember thinking it was really crazy. I remember it having a scene from like an 80s porno with a chick sucking a dudes dick. I would love to see that shit again now that FA has blown up. If push comes to shove I may have to try and find my old laptop and see if I saved it, but someone has to know what I'm talking about right?

aha, my friend bought a FA shirt in like 2006 from (I think) that little skateshop in alphabet city that isn't around anymore. It was yellow and said 'Fucking Awesome' all over it in green print. It was a pretty ugly shirt, but it was Dill's so it was supposed to be super cool. I bet if he still had that shirt he could sell it to someone on here for 100+ $

I have a few things from when FA was around before, and it's weird because I think I paid maybe 70$ for a hoodie and two tees. and now the same hoodie I have is more than that.

I think I remember it, it was well edited and had ESG's "UFO" as part of the soundtrack. The guy you're thinking of is probably Mike Piscitelli who works w/ Dill. That's why I think brands like FA and Bianca can go far, b/c of the talented people surrounding them. Piscitelli is a director/visual artist, Alex Olson is friends with the DJ Eric Duncan who compiled Mouse's soundtrack, etc.

AVE and some of the kids are kinda making it lame with all the social networking though(odd future shares the load as well).  Dill and Mike had some really cool stuff in the beginning of FA when it really small amounts and it wasn't advertised.   If it stayed more of a mystery i would like it even more than i already do imo.

no, they don't.

dill riding dash's coattails to show us how ny he is, is really pathetic.

dill's an orange county skater, first and foremost. which is totally cool. he's just gotta accept it, and deal w/ the fact that he's not OG ny. no big deal, we're all still fans. get off this dude's nuts, and let him RIP.

My interpretation of Dill's ramblings on this subject were that the inspiration for what's on his shirts, boards, etc...are not derived from the internet age.  You'd be hard pressed not to find images on the internet of EVERYTHING imaginable, whether generated there or not.

It seems obvious that Fucking Awesome is a direct bleed off of Dill's past collage work and photobooks.

I see what you're saying but he's still kind of a hypocrite. I'm a fan but I still have to call him out on that one....He says "I don't find things on the computer"..that's an absolute statement (though when he says it, that crucifix is hanging on his wall so that image gets a pass) he didn't say "I get MOST of my material from outside of the internet"..the shirt with the kid getting hit by the car is a pretty well known live leak video. it's also in a in a skate video..I highly doubt that that was derived from a source other than the internet..they don't play that kind of shit on CNN I just think he should be able to stay true to his word given that it's the first batch of T-shirts.  If it were a few months later I'd let it slide but it's the first batch and he's already contradicted himself.

That hat is the first really cool looking thing they've made...and I actually sort of like the idea of the yearbook photo boards changing with split plies,  weird eyes,  dill's face photoshopped over terpening's etc...

Still can't get that into it though.  Maybe it's because the name is just so incredibly terrible. Seriously,  a different name could have made a huge difference.

anyone know who did the art? I wish they would give credit to the artist.
hopefully it wasn't stolen/ripped off.
it's still weird to me that in that vice interview, dill waxed poetic about how nothing from FA comes from the internet only to talk for 5 minutes about the autistic piano guy, who he totally found on the internet.

anyway, like someone said above, it's way too early to start judging these new companies.

Is Ben Kadow on 3D or FA? I hope he's on FA

They met on the Huf photo shoot for Dylan and Diet Dylan's intro to huf (she was the one with the Austyn shirt).

For the most part they keep it off of the social media - aside from the occasional shot of each other showing up on each other's feeds...still jealous of this jacket Dylan wore to the Cherry premiere in NY, taken from her feed:

dylan. Rieder And Camille Rowe Are Officially Dating! Couple Shows Some Serious PDA At Strokes Concert!

These two just upgraded from rumored romance to official couple!!

For the past few weeks, speculation began to swirl that Hollywood hottie Camille Rowe was dating newly minted Fucking Awesome pro Dylan Rieder!

Well the couple pretty much confirmed their relationship status as they hung out this weekend in West Hollywood, and they didn't even try to hide their love for each other!

In fact, the two were VERY lovey dovey as they held hands and even shared a little smooch after grabbing a bite at Swingers Diner! We gotta admit, for a skateboarder, dylan. looks pretty good at tonsil-hockey! LOLz!
Congrats guys!

I have no idea who Behemoth is. I literally took  one second to come up with and type in my username. It wasn't quite thought out as much as I'm sure ThugWaffle (under your logic, you must listen to Eminem and dress like Keelan Dadd) was. Why would you be concerned with how I dress anyways. I guess I did it to myself though. That's what I get for posting in a Dylan thread. Shitheads like this ThugWaffle dud are always hung up on what clothes some other dude has on (again shit posers do). I promise on my end, I could give a fuck less how you dress. I'm sure regardless of what shitty clothes you throw on your back when your headed out the door, you're still an unbearable kook at the park after  mom drops you off.

FA needs more graphics like the Coke Dad board, outside of that graphic i feel the company has not come close to the 101/Blind/World graphics Dill wanted to pull off. And people arguing about the Strokes not being liked in NYC, in a metropolitan area the size of NYC you can find a large fanbase for basically any type of music/singer/band and probably a larger one for one that was homegrown.

The Strokes are great. Judging by your username and the word "poser", you probably dress like Chris Cole and listen to Behemoth.

I'd rather listen to the track Marquee Moon by Television on repeat, than have the whole Strokes back-catalogue at my disposal. Knock-offs of what was already done better

FA needs more graphics like the Coke Dad board, outside of that graphic i feel the company has not come close to the 101/Blind/World graphics Dill wanted to pull off. And people arguing about the Strokes not being liked in NYC, in a metropolitan area the size of NYC you can find a large fanbase for basically any type of music/singer/band and probably a larger one for one that was homegrown.
yeah they sold out madison square garden a few years ago
