"Skateboarding is a crime. You can dress it up in Street League sponsorships or legally sanctioned skateparks, but the truth lives in the streets. Bum fights, police chases, angry homeowners, destruction of private property - it's all part of the game.
Ryan Garshell approached me about working on a full-length GX1000 video about 18 months back, and honestly, I can't think of anything else I would rather see.
San Francisco is equal parts paradise and battlefield. Name another place where landing a trick often means the saga has just begun. The real finish line is at the bottom of that hill.
We'll be premiering the video in San Francisco in April, but most importantly, we're making it available to you in hard copy. Something you can hold onto forever. Something that will make your heart race like that first time you ran from the cops and realized that nothing in the world could ever compare to the life of a skateboarder. - Tony Vitello"

This is excellent news.
-
That;s fucking rad. That is literally done perfectly if that is the side of skateboarding you represent. No iTunes BS. Just a full length on a DVD. Can't wait.
-
hell fucking ya!
-
This is going to be fucking amazing!
-
Hyped, who can we expect to be in it/have full parts? Really hoping for a Stevie Perez one, plus expect guys like Jake Johnson, Yonnie, Brian Delatorre, Al Davis and Jimmy Lannon.
-
The cherry on top would be if they added all the web edits as dvd extras
-
For real

That gear is all done backwards. Isn't it the GX1000 video presented by Thrasher and not the other way around?

Bump. Premieres the 14th in SF, the 19th in NYC. Looks to feature JkJhnsn, Yonnie, DeLa, Al Davis, Stevie Perez, Ben Gore, Jordan Trahan, and Dick Rizzo (at the very least).

I'm way more excited for this than anything else coming out this year.
-
Hope it's in montage format, rather than divided up into parts. One of the glories of GX is that it has a "friends that skate together" vibe absent from almost every other skate video.

-
Please not another fucking montage video
-
I'd rather not a montage video, I'd like to see individual parts, a shared part is the most I'll tolerate.

i think it will be. i'm putting my money on montages for each city and maybe a montage for a particular obstacle, like the circular bike rack things you see guys skating.
-
A full jake part would be worth buying this.
Converse Cons posted a instagram video about this and seemed to say Jake Johnson would have a full part along with other Cons pros with GX1000.

Lakai and Spitfire posted something similar about Yonnie Cruz and Stevie Perez, respectively. I'm crossing my fingers for full parts, it's been way too long for most of these dudes.

Anyone go to the SF premiere? Spoilers?
-
That was a sick premiere, great vibes and all that. Everybody had to check their boards in and get a ticket and when people were trying to get their boards after the video it was a bit of a clusterfuck but its all good in the end.
Video was raw as fuck, noticed some of the split screen stuff as seen in cherry though, showed some good outtakes though. Everybody came through, some of the clips in there were unbelievable. Song selection was great too, started with Mobb Deep and even had Ice Water by Raekwon in there, instant classic in my books.

Video is sick..
If you don't want to go out and skate afterwards some thing is wrong with you.
Al was the MVP for me..
-
Some gnarly skating in the video. The roughest and steepest hills get handled.
-
the video is fuckin savage. no spoilers. go to your local shop and get it. you will NOT be disappointed.

Video kills. Makes you want to skate. Will be on repeat once I get my hands on a DVD, bought at full price from a skateshop.

The footage that Thrasher put up on IG of the guy kickflipping to a hill bomb was insane. Didn't speed check or anything.
So is this longer than 30 mins? I guess this will be the first DVD I own in a while.
-
So who all is actually prominent throughout the whole thing?

No parts, it was a montage style video. I think it worked better than parts to be honest, came across more like a bunch of homies skating together and shit. A lot of fucking crazy hills. Everybody came through. I think the video was about 17 minutes of solid footage, at least thats what I saw on the minute marker when they were loading it up, but then again I was a lil bit drunk so I could be wrong, it felt longer than 17 for sure.
-
It felt a lot longer than 17 minutes, probably closer to the 30 minute mark. There was so much crazy stuff in the video, I think Al Davis and Brian Delatorre had enough footage for at least 2 separate parts each. Just wait until you guys see the hill bombs in this one. It was scary as fuck just watching them, I couldn't even imagine actually trying one.
Not stoked that earlier in the day someone at Soma stole my friend's backpack with three of our film cameras in there. Fuck that guy, whoever they are.
-
Saw it last night. I knew it was going to be tight but it's soooo much gnarlier than I thought it would be.
Someone compared the split screen stuff to the Supreme video but to me it seemed like the antithesis of the Supreme video. Instead of trendy outfits/tricks/cool guys it's just raw skating and death defying hill bombs without the gimmicks.
Yonnie Cruz got really good. I don't think people realized some of the no complys JJ was doing were switch at the premiere, felt they didn't get the crowd response they deserved. Nobody else can do those.
-
sounds so good cant wait to see it...Any shops selling online yet??Probably still in the process of shipping dvds..somebody give a heads up forsure gonna buy

Just watched the video a couple of times. No spoilers you just have to see it, hands down one of the rawest videos I've seen. Incredible skating and crazy antics. The passion they have for searching out spots and finding tricks is really obvious and in your face in this one. Buy it!

This is one of the best videos I've seen in years. All of these dudes stacked so much crazy footage and bomb some of the gnarliest hills, I'm shocked that they're alive and out of jail. Yonnie Cruz is still a little shit, but he really grew into his skating -- great lines, great flick, looks calm and relaxed on the craziest terrain. At this point, Chocolate can't afford not to put him on. Al Davis looks amazing on a skateboard and DeLa does the hardest tricks on the best spots. Jake Johnson didn't have as much as I expected, but literally every single trick he had was top-notch (although I will say, I don't get how he does bigspin back tails and fakie heel switch bs nosegrinds for Instagram but not for the real video). My only real gripe was a bit of a lack of friends footage -- aside from Sean Greene, Manchild (who had some of my favorite footage in the whole thing), and Tony Manfre, I don't really recall any of the usual guests that end up in GX montages like Brendan Carroll, Jimmy Lannon, or Josh Wilson, and I think the video would have really benefitted from even just a few tricks from dudes in that vein... but that hasn't stopped me from watching the video twice a day.
TL;DR buy this video ASAP.

I agree with you about the friends clips and Jake Johnson stuff. I love the video and tend to always just take stuff for what it is, but did expect Ben Gore to have more than two clips. Especially after Ryan threw some of his stuff on Instagram or in web edits that was really amazing stuff from the same trips as footage of other guys that DID end up in the video. Seeing other guys like Jimmy Lannkn would have been sick too but whatever, the video's rad. Jake, Stevie, DeLa, Al, and Yonnie all killed it. And of course Garshell

What you say is true, people have always been doing this. I think it has become a tenfold more apparent the past few years, but either way I don't think it changes anything.
Even if it weren't a trend, and if it had always been equally present in skate videos since the beginning of street skating: skating isn't perfect. Just because something has always been that way does not make it ideal.
I don't mean to detract from the skating in the video either, it really is exceptional. The video is really well put together and these are some of the more talented skaters putting out footage right now. But that first "vollie" made me so upset I had to walk away from the video for a while until I could come back and enjoy it with a level head.
I've been protesting this topic a lot lately, so at the risk of being a buzzkill on the wooden toy online forum, I'll try and make my point and leave it at that. As someone who was homeless for a short time and has been a skater for a long time: fuck you if you think it's okay to do that to someone for your 2 second clip in your edgy little skate video. Leave them alone.
-
Where do we stand on scooping up little crazy homeless women and moving them out of the way?
-
...post...
I agree with you that it's a shitty thing to do and a shitty trend in skating (much like the little fashionistas torturing animals in whatever that fuccboi-worhshipper video was that came out last year). Gx dudes are pretty much on the forefront on shitty skating trends though, remember the whole Tokyo fiasco?
-
i dont think ive ever been this scared watching a skate video before. the SF footage in this is pure insanity. who was the guy who did the back to back street ollies?
-
i bought this video today for $10 and then went to skate the downtown park. jake phelps rolled up and we skated the bowl together and then talked about the video and he said it was sick but "that guy is kinda biting gerwer" hahaah
editing kind of tripped me out, but otherwise a beautiful and scary video with high rewatchability.

if that's the case, then everyone (gerwer incl.) are biting Sean Young.

worth buying for the photo book alone.
slightly disappointed with the edit. call me old fashioned but i prefer carefully edited individual parts to full-length songs. really tired of this seemingly random style of editing trend going on with music drifting in and out. the filming didn't seem quite on par with the thrasher edits either.
i was really really really looking forward to this. it delivered, but i wouldn't call it a classic like i was expecting.

Not sure about Lakai, but he's AM for Girl
-
Anyone getting all torn up over the antics in this ("vollies", etc.) should go cry to the Polar vid (I think it's made for that kinda thing) or go watch a safe corpo vid. The GX vid is seriously the best thing I've seen in as long as I can remember. I may be tripping but I feel the all-inclusive vibe pervading modern skate culture pretty hard. Like the whole "everything's cool/let everybody in" thing. Fuck that; some shit is kooky. And it's too great seeing something like this that pushes the "fuck you/wild in the streets" agenda. C'mon now, it's not like we were angels to begin with...
(And if you were, then fuck you. You picked the wrong shit to do.)
-
Nah, exploiting homeless folks is fucking lame. It's my one criticism of this video.
Beefing with SF yuppies? Hell yeah, that rules, those people need to be fucked with and taken down a notch or two.
It's pretty easy to engage with street folks in a positive way if you really want to capture that aesthetic for your vid (see Sabotage series for reference--they're not perfect by any means but they do a much better job of engaging with that population as a whole, in my opinion). Vollies are cheap.
Also "go cry to the Polar video?" You sound like a chump. Both videos rule, for different reasons. I feel bad for you if you can't appreciate both.

Dude you sound tough as shit! Can we be friends? I'm so caught up in this artsy movement that I've stopped fucking with homeless people, really lost my edge and could use some guidance
-

Mattchew: With all due respect, go fuck yourself. Not every vid will inspire every person and I get that but I don't see how someone can sit through that thing and wanna go fuck around with their friends. Still, if you do then more power to you. (More on the homeless thing below.)
Mr. Suit: It's not that I think we should be fucking with people but then again I don't think we shouldn't be either. All is shaped by terrain and in the city that means that even more becomes fair game given the proper context. No trying to be "edgey" about it , in my opinion, but if you're gonna go out in that kinda environment and with that kinda mindset then things will get gritty. It's not like it's done for the sole purpose of being exploitative. It's just chalked up to wild shit that happens when you're out skating.
Did not expect all the hate. Just wanted to contribute my thoughts to the board fresh off the stoke from my first viewing of the vid. Happy skateboarding.

That dude's post reads just like those dudes who write Thrasher from prison.
Well I always did find those to be the most intriguing entries to the Mail Drop column so I suppose that's a plus. Some of that in my initial post was just meant as a joke to drive the point home but I guess it might read a little different. Anyway, no stick 'n poke Thrasher tats. Promise.

Did I see a couple clips of Al Davis wearing Vans? or am i mistaking him for someone else?
Have watched this three times since it came in the mail yesterday. Video is so fucking good! Booklet is choice too.
Really wish they would reissue the original eps + various international edits. GX fucking rules.
yea i noticed that too. not sure why he was wearing those old schools haha
-
Maybe it's just old footage, before he was solid with Cons?
-
Video fucking ruled. The homies came over last night, cracked the copy open and immediately watched it twice. Rad as fuck.
-
Al was never fully on Cons. Dude was an "ambassador." >:(
Anyways, hyped on all the fire extinguisher scenes. MQUE, BTM Crew, Wanto are legendary. Pretty sure those fools are cool with Dill as well.
"Intense" is a good descriptor for the video.
-
Not endorsing using the homeless as obstacles but I'm pretty sure being ollies over isn't going to be the worst thing that happens to them that day.
-
Nah, exploiting homeless folks is fucking lame.
Yeah this sums it up pretty well I think. Security guards, yuppies, and homeowners are one thing. A sleeping (or possibly passed out) homeless person is another. Those people aren't just down on their luck, they have it the worst in our society.
-
I just bought the dvd+booklet, can't wait for it to come in. The anticipation is killing me.
-
How much Tony Manfre is in it? Have to grab a copy of this
-
I just realized that GX1000 is because when you type VX in iphone it autocorrects to GX. Does everybody already know this am I late to the party? Am I totally wrong in my hypothethis?
-
Watched it again last night and Yonnie's stuff gets better each time through. Everything he does is so burly, and that doesn't even do him justice. That backside flip from the hubba to the street was really sick. There is no half stepping with anything he goes for. I hope Chocolate is giving him a board soon.
I also thought that was Dela's strongest stuff yet. The hill bomb he does into oncoming traffic with no lookout homies...man oh man.

Old footage. Notice the weird AWS boards he's riding in there too.
Brian Delatorre is the real winner in this video. Everyone knows Yonnie, Jake, and Al are good. But holy shit Dela has some intense tricks. I screamed at my TV at the pole jam. The way its filmed, you're not expecting it.
To the dude above who asks about Tony Manfre, he has one line. But it's one of those deals like Nate Jones in the iPath 2005 promo where you think you saw a ghost or something.
Marius Syvanen's line with the powerslide across the street is my favorite thing in the video.

Chocolate SHOULD have given him a board awhile ago. He was pro for Traffic and he's gnarlier than any pro on Chocolate now.
Couldn't agree more Hate. Hopefully Crail speeds up the process. I actually had his first pro board on Traffic. The Cloud City graphic or whatever they called it.

I gotta get this. Been watching the GX1000 vids on YouTube and they are fucking fire. Just gotta find a reasonable place to get it from with cheap enough shipping to Finland.
-
I think that anyone, from a bum to the President of the Galaxy, is fair game to be ollied over if they fall asleep in an ollieable position. I've ollied everyone I've had the chance to. It's not to dehumanize them, it's because there they are and I'm going to ollie them. It just so happens that alcoholics who live outside are in that position far more often than the average person on the street.
-
i am by all means gonna buy this dvd but i just wanna watch the shit right now.. can someone be a don an upload it

I'm honestly surprised someone hasn't uploaded it yet. But it's also cool because it reminds of that excitement you felt when you were a kid to see a new video and the only way to do that was to get your hands on a hard copy from your local shop etc.

Just bought it too. Very rad video and they skate SF like it's no big deal. Music was on point. Like samples to NY rap and then leading into the actual rap song. It was definitely death defying. The filmer getting hit by the car was intense but the impact didn't seem as bad for some reason. Dope stuff.

can someone please post a link immediately when they see some shop shipping the dvd-booklet to western/central europe? thank you
-
just watched it...
I only saw one homeless person ollie...and there were other clips with them interacting with homeless people in some regard (some positively, some negatively), similar to the sabotage video in terms of interaction, just not as personalized, which I can see as a problem possibly...I dunno...not saying ollieing a homeless person is good, but when I read the original comment it made me think there was a whole section of homeless people getting messed with and I only noticed two occasions in the video...
Also, that whole sean greene "he bombed kearny all the way through" thing is a little bit bullshit...he threw three big ones in while going down the hill (powerslides)...not saying it wasn't insane, but I think he was going slower because of that
Video had great skating, but I didn't like the video so much...I thought it was poorly put together and some of those guys give me a strange, second hand embarrassment feeling.

Dela, Al and Yonnie take the cake. Just charging full speed, and seems that there isn't such thing as too much speed for these guys. I'm astonished how one can bomb down hill across intersections. Are those main streets? What is someone doesn't notice. Bomb hill clips gave me goosebumps.

Any word on if this is going to get any sort of online release? itunes or whatever? Some of us don't have dvd players and going so long without seeing this (or the Polar vid) is driving me slowly insane...

The nearest actual shop, 6 hours away, was sold out of the video when I went there over the weekend. An online release would be pretty nice.

All the tagging footage just made me want to watch a Natural Koncept video instead.
I think these dudes are old enough that they should be able to understand that maybe people don't want them in their backyards or skating their houses.
Hey, some gnarly hill footage though!

I wonder if "Gipper" ever had to end up fighting the GX guys like he said he was going to do if he couldn't skate those house spots anymore.
Do you think they are particularly tough? It wasn't a house spot if I remember correctly, but yeah, those dudes brattiness definitely brings unnecessary heat to street skating.
Interestingly, I was just about to post about how stupid and selfish those guys are. My favorite part of the video is where the lady at that house takes the dude's board and starts swinging it at him, and clearly using their lines against them "there wasn't a sign that said I couldn't take it" hahahaha. That lady was rad.
Does anybody else feel like these dudes have a heavy feeling of compensating from spending too much time in the suburbs growing up, and now they want to act like super-urban tough guys?
-
^^^Why in the hell are you so angry about everything? I was only following up on one of your particularly macho and testosterone filled posts you made awhile back. To answer your question, I liked the skating obviously but the tagging is dumb as shit.
Did you at least skate to the GX premiere?
-
You know, a lot of the time I end up rolling my eyes at this go-hard, skate-or-die, fuck-everyone-else-in-the-streets mentality and (skate) media portrayal.
But this video was fucking amazing. I loved everything about it, regardless of whether it makes them dicks or cool or not. Regardless of whether they're like that in real life or not. Everything went together in this video perfectly. The skaters, the spots and tricks (and outfits, let's be honest); the graff stuff, the slams and street interactions, the minimal editing and random montage vibes. The music choices.
Basically this was a perfect video. Whether it's your cup of tea, or type of skating you enjoy, or not.
So hats off to this crew.
Beats the piss out of both the Polar and Adidas videos, that's for sure.
And I fully expected to like both of those.
Got a rip of this video and will still buy it, just as soon as it stops selling out in my local.
-
What I don't get is how JJ seems like a decent respectful guy, but his crew is full of degenerates. They are all great skaters, but everyone but JJ seem to be dicks to anyone who isn't a skater. Even Dela and Al. Why can't everyone just be like Kenny Anderson.

how is it that you can go off on the Adidas vid/premier for "trying to turn our culture into theirs, not adjusting how they do business to fit how our culture does things", but when you watched the GX vid, which is a much better representation of how we do things, you don't like that either? That video has NO corporate affiliation, the dudes all ride for different companies, and the skating is pretty fucking insane. What would you say (video-wise) is the best representation of skateboarding or our culture, as far as a recent video goes?

100% right. It was the perfect street skateboarding video. 10/10... 5 stars. I don't care to know anything about the skaters or filmer personally. Just judge the product and the emotion you felt... were you entertained? Did it make you want to go skate, film, and inspire you to make a video of your own? etc etc.

Like a lot of graffiti in SF now a days, their hand styles weren't that great. It seems like the art of tagging just sort of fell the shitter. I mean getting up is getting up but get up with some finesse and style. It is no different than street skating. Anyone can be some rebellious street skater but if you have doo doo style, no one is going to give you credit.

those hill bombs get your heart rate up just sitting here watching; to a far greater extent than away days, makes me want to go skate.
it's kinda funny that between the dime video and this, these kinda low budget homie videos are putting big budget shit to shame, as far as i'm concerned... representing skate culture in it's truest, gnarliest form.
i love you can feel it in your feet when you watch someone start to get speed wobble on a hill bomb.
i think its a money thing as far as the videos Like when a big company throws money down they either expect it a certain way or the filmer looks at it like fuck i have all this pressure on me let me make it worth while as opposed to a homie video you have time and can make something the way you want

Holy FUCK! You create an entire thread complaining that they checked boards at the adidas premiere that you drove to, saying that we as skateboarders shouldn't be ashamed of doing crazy shit with our boards and what the fuck ever... then you come in here and bitch about the exact shit you were defending in that thread. You crazy as hell my dude
-
My point was that people can be trusted with skateboards, not that all the stupid shit people said would happen was fine. I also don't s oee how saying drinking a beer or holding your skateboard is ok is the same thing as saying its cool to blow up spots by fighting with everybody over a trick. Just come back later man.
The video overall is rad and I think everybody should buy it, but that part was embarassing.
And I guess I stand corrected on the overcompensating for suburban life, though I have no clue what the fuck lakeland is.
and even though the point definitely is unrelated, those supreme kids go to boarding schools, not charter schools. Charter schools are free to everybody, boarding schools are nowhere near it.

It used to be a place to get gas between Disney World in Orlando and doing gross swinger shit on a boat in Tampa, but now it's a place to get gas with a good skatepark. Burt Reynolds might die there.

They're not selling any copies in my country, and the cheapest price including shipping is like $50. Fuck, I'm never going to be able to watch this :(

Best video of his year yet. So much gnarlyness condensated into 30 mins of film. I had my heart pumping like crazy in some of those clips. Loved how raw it was, I didnt mind the edgyness of it.
-
Left me pretty much speechless and with sweaty palms after watching this. This might be the best video I've watched in 20 years.

Sometimes i think some of that hijinx stuff in the GX videos are fake, some of them are just too perfect. In the old video where Yonnie almost gets hit by the car and the everything is chill then the girl starts yelling at ya boy with camera, just seemed like bad acting to me. It wouldn't be that hard to time having a car come around the corner as someone lands a trick. The other one that seemed fake to me in the old video was the one where he's filming the line and the dude bails and a perfectly timed Prius drives up and he skitches down the street on it. Yonnie running from the cop was def a little suspect to me, the cop wasnt even wearing a regular uniform, it would pretty simple to fake one of the homies wearing a bad ge around his neck and some tatical boots.

So....not urban at all, not a city at all. And after rereading, the person I am responding to claimed many lived "near" a city, for the record, that is literally the definition of a suburb:
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/suburb (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/suburb)
I don't mean they are country, I mean they remind me of the kids who think suburbs are for living, and cities are for playing, and don't acknowledge or respect the communities that exist there as they think of the communities as playgrounds, not places where people live and grow. Obviously, skateboarding is going to view cities as playgrounds in some ways by definition, but they do it in an obnoxious entitled way, you can acknowledge that you are playing in a community without denying its existence- when I get the boot, I know I'm breaking laws and all that, and move on. Usually I'll even throw in a sorry, thank you, or have a nice day. When they get the boot they act as if the person booting them has no right to do so, it just comes off as insanely bratty.

for real that's a big part of it... money and the expectations of those who provide the money.
and just as you're saying here, with the homie video -they're making it the way they want... adidas is also making it the way they want, the difference is that the two different camps want different things.
i feel like, maybe, the homie videos are all about putting out something that gets people hyped to skate, that they feel good about seeing themselves in, that represents their scene and their people; meanwhile, the corporate videos are treated more like promotional materials for their product and subsequently also their team...
away days feels so dispassionate by comparison, and i think this is the perfect analogy for the comparison between corporate and so-called 'core' sides of the industry.
yeah, there is some incredibly impressive skating in away days, but on the whole, the video is a bit of a fragmented, try-hard bore.
GX has vision because the people behind it are either actual skaters who hang out and skate by choice (not by way of obligatory sponsorship tours and shit) or are actually stoked on skating, not just trying to bite off a chunk of a hot market.
regardless of all that, the video is fucking rad, with a shit tonne of replay value.

That's BS Gip and you know it. As a skateboarder, EVERYTHING is viewed as a playground. Suburb/City/Natural Surroundings, etc. That's what makes us skateboarders. People go to Moab or Arches and see cool rock formations. We see natural transition. Normal people see staircases as places to go up and down. We look at them as a gap or a rail. Whether we're actually skating or not. Shit, I've been to Sri Lanka, Honduras and places where I didn't have my board. 3rd world countries. And I still looked at EVERYTHING as a playground.
And if people are cool, then they get treated with respect, like you said. But that doesn't make for good video footage. People wanna see the dumb shit. It sells and you know this. What did the puke scene in Fucktards have to do with anything? It didn't, but it was good footage that evokes a reaction and leaves you with a crazy memory. But if it was 5 minutes of them just drinking an NOT puking, it wouldn't have the shock value.
-
You are an idiot and didn't get what I was saying at all. To rephrase:
Skateboarders treat spots like A playground that they aren't supposed to play on but do anyway.
These guys treat spots like THEIR PERSONAL playground, and start shit with old ladies when they get kicked out.
Its an issue of entitlement and attitude not action.
If you still don't get it, just understand that first point that you are an idiot.
Oh, and I bet I've skated far more house spots in SF while you just sit there pretending you know what its like to skate here. You are speaking hypothetical as somebody who doesn't actually skate here, I'm talking from experience as a skateboarder who regularly does- if you come out here, and you skate spots like that, don't act like them when you get the boot. They only get a pass because they rip.

you think that because you're a school teacher that everyone who disagrees with you is an idiot. well FUCK YOU, you self entitled piece of shit. you're don't know shit about me, where I live or anything. you take what people say and turn it around and make it a personal attack on people. THAT'S FUCKED. You're 10x the piece of shit you think the GX dudes are. You wanna refute what I said? Do that - cause you don't know shit about me on a personal level. I've lived and skated in SF for a long fuckin time and know plenty about behind the scenes shit you wish you knew (so who's speaking hypothetically now???). Stick to being a school teacher and contradictory statements about how you got to a video premier. I'd call you an idiot and talk shit about what you do but you're a teacher, and as the child of educators, I understand the importance of them. Also, I have this thing called CHARACTER - but you wouldn't know anything about that, integrity or any other qualities that make a decent person.

You hit a nerve because you always have to make it personal, and you clearly don't know anything about me, yet proceeded to judge me as some hayseed that don't know shit about SF. I'm an adult, as you are. There's such thing as having a different view or opinion. That doesn't make me an idiot. And honestly, what other stupid shit have I said? I don't get into it with you like all these other people simply for arguments sake. I merely made the point that these dudes film themselves being assholes because it's shock value. We've all been to spots we shouldn't skate. If the people ask me to leave, I leave. If they come out hot and start calling me an asshole or pushing me, I'm not backing down and I'll tell people how I feel. That simple. I'm not defending them or attacking them. Shock value sells, you know that. Being nice to adults asking you to leave doesn't make good footage. Thats why they tape all that shit.

Why are you argueing with Gipper? Even if you give all the arguments in this earth it will be useless. He will always win in his mind and downgrade your opinion because he thinks everyone is a idiot but him. I already learnt that lesson.

Their antics seem pretty normal coming from my era (early to mid nineties). Skaters have been getting antagonized and shit on forever by society (old ladies included).. who cares if we antagonize back a little bit. I used to get shit thrown at me when I was younger. But now that everyone is PC and skaters are considered to be "cool" they've lost their edge.

The hillbombs are CGI. They're actually rolling down the hallways of an office in Palo Alto covered in greenscreen. Any "speed" or "danger" the viewer perceives is merely the work of some underpaid, overworked VFX intern.

:D
On a side note, I agree with Gip's points. I hate when skaters act as if they're entitled to skate on other peoples' property and throw a fit when asked to leave. Has that ever gotten anyone anywhere before?(legitimate question if anyone has examples) The whole car skating fad embodied this idea to the nth degree, simply having no respect for others' property. I'm down to wax ledges and skate wherever but if someone asks you to leave, just leave and come back at a better time. Don't really know how much this stuff plays into the video, just commenting on the idea. Seems like these dudes rip in this video so I'll have to check it out.
-
You guys are all wrong, their actions are obviously based on the profound study of Henri Lefebvre's work, which gives them the theoretical background to make the city their own. Now to validate that hypothesis I'd really like to do some proper media research

You mean your era when you were (presumably) a teenager? Teenagers are supposed to be little shitheads. They still are. Watch Illegal Civilization. It's not about being PC. It's about not being a pathetic 30 year old still acting like a teenager. The secondhand embarrassment I felt from watching this video was astonishing. It's not "edgy". It's embarrassing. Sorta like biker gangs. Man children cool in their own minds and that's it. What's more, is these dudes are nothing but hipster transplants on staycaction acting like they own their new city. May as well open an artisanal urban cupcake shop/ petting zoo. Same pathetic entitled attitude of "this is our city now".
Just to reiterate, since people seem kinda thick. It's not about being right or wrong or PC or whatever. It's about 30 year old man children being pathetic and, clearly, a lot of people who are either really young or easily impressed thinking its edgy or cool. The fact that they're possibly staging any of the antics is laughable. Holy shit.

Oh come on. What did they do that was that bad? They snatched a piece of paper out of a lady's hand. They ran from a cop. Did they physically hurt anyone? And I was in my early twenties and I did worse because people suck. What else? They tripped over some guys foot. Did you think they really didn't want to skate some of those spots? They just did for the confrontation? Get over yourself.. People are dicks to skaters so naturally skaters ate going to be dicks right back and it's never going to be right in the moment. Video was gritty in a perfect way. Idk how JJ switch no complys street gaps and bump to bars, his clips were my favorites. If you are bitching in this thread about their antics quit being a kook.
It might be after the third or fourth time someone is an asshole. How about this... Fuck society and Fuck conforming to it because you're afraid of what people will think. You were embarrassed??? Nobody cares if you were embarrassed.. Quit skateboarding if you're so ashamed you uppity Fuck.
Some top notch logic in this post.

I explained that with the cupcake shop analogy. Plus, skaters is hipsters. Keep up.
Love,
Uppity Fuck

Like its been said before, its an amazing video. Although there were times i didn't know who was who the overall video was blended really well. Antics weren't too crazy, the music was on point, and the skating was top notch. Cant believe i haven't been following any of the gx edits that have been coming out. Well worth the 9 bucks for anyone that is still waiting for it to go online, i remember buying 30 dollar videos that sucked.

finally watched it after staring at the box for a week. fuck it's good. wouldn't change a thing. yonnie's mvp.

My flashback was buying the Shorty's Guilty video over Real 2 Real. I fucking hated that video (minus B-Turner's short part) and that cost me $30 as well.

VHS videos were so expensive! Duplication was just not cost effective. Those little black boxes cost way more than a DVD and duplication was done in real time.

Great video, but zero bonus materials on the hardcopy was an unpleasant surprise. I had the digi file already but feel like this is one to own. Still feel that way and glad I bought it, but some b-roll or compilation of older edits would have been nice.

it was a deluxe 2 disc edition, but i remember paying $50 or $60 for the menimkati dvd.

I was putting off watching this because I typically don't like montage type videos (I think I have that disorder where I can't recognize faces and it drives me nuts trying to figure out who is who) but it really was as awesome as every says. Right behind the Polar DVD as my favorites in the last few years
-
Finally picked this up the other day (along with the Polar video, actually) and holy shit what a great video. I think my favourite thing in the video was the Dela line with the 5.0 and the kickflip down that huge fucking hill right into traffic. High re-watch value for sure.

The same exact thing happened to me! Where did you order yours from? I was so pissed off when I opened the case and the disc was absent. I've been looking forward to watching this for weeks. I'll pay someone to PM me a rip of it.

skateboarding is illegal and irritating to many. This is (in part) the nature of the game.

bought this at the local for 50 Yuan (about $9) and got a Thrasher x GX hat - its a material that wicks sweat out super fast- perfect for the muggy humid weather here. good video, lots of replay value and i kinda liked how it was a whole montage format.
the main part where i'd draw the line was when people were skating peoples houses in the city...specifically the wall rail Manchild 50-50'd - if a homeowner asked my in a civil, respectful way to stop skating their property id listen and go somewhere else, maybe attempt a negotiation.
but all the other security guards, hero-citizens telling them not to skate in public places (specifically the lady with SF's "rules" on skating) - fuck outta here with that non sense!
-
Made sure to download it while it was on thrasher so I can watch it over and rewind different tricks, made me want to skate, bomb hills and bail, but all I did was get a pop shiv tail grab for the first time
