I would just like to add that a set of emergency tongs can come in pretty handy:
I like the idea of the poo knife but it’s a little archaic given that problematic logs typically just demand a little finesse to coax down. Adjusting the position or bending the shape is generally all it takes to get a stubborn brown trout swimming downstream. If that doesn’t work you can always just grab the problem log and dispose of it out the window. Nobody wants to fumble around trying to do that shit with a knife like some kind of ape.
For the pro, just keep a compact angle grinder handy but don’t forget the eye protection.
