i sometimes think about how abstract skateboarding is as a sport/hobby/lifestyle. most other sports can be tied into three things - displays of human strength/power/athleticism, games imitating a battle or sports that show how we can conquer/manipulate the natural world. where does skateboarding fit into this? its roots are obviously in surfing, which is a sport focused on manipulating or conquering the ocean. but skateboarding is a sport where we manipulate human architecture by riding this wooden plank with wheels that sort of looks like a surfboard, but at this point it's obviously very far beyond surfing.

idk, sometimes i just trip out on how abstract skateboarding is. imagine trying to tell your ancestor from 500 years ago that your favorite thing to do is 'grinding' concrete with your wooden toy which has these specially made metal axles purpose build for the sport.

I think this might be relevant...

This video discusses how skateboarding is simultaneously intertwined with inter dimensional spirituality. The relationship between God and Man, and the Prophecy of Mark Somers

A bunch of lame, empty people trying to fill the gaping hole in their being by stealing other culture's religious traditions

Spiritual is just another word for religious.

Don't know if it's a spirituality thing per say, but feeding off someone's energy is something I tend to do depending on the sesh. I saw some of the younger guys skating the park yesterday and instead of doing my normal humdrum skating, I picked up on what they were doing and starting doing stuff out of my normal bubble and tried some tricks I haven't in a while.

True for a lot of them but most of it is just latent schizophrenia. “I opened my third eye a year ago, a great spiritual shift had happened recently” always means they started actually losing it

Never used to care about these sorts until my girlfriend had a manic episode years ago and befriended a rather big group of hippies. Here I was trying to convince her to see a doctor and get medication as she was only sleeping like an hour a day, meanwhile these "friends" who were using her to pay for shit and trying to convince her to invest in a commune were telling her shit like to "yasss embrace this energy, embrace yourself" with the few who knew something was off were trying to extract her excess energy with crystals and other new-age crap and recommending against medication.
Nearly lost her to that group.
