Durable laces?
« on: November 12, 2016, 05:30:38 PM »
I've been breaking laces a lot lately, the last decent ones I've had come with shoes were the Nike all-courts. I'm on the adidas courts now and the laces are thin as shit... any good places to get replacements from that can take a beating? Recommendations welcome.

Thanks.

smh... the reason the allcourts keep up better is because the lace loops are closer together. same with era?s. all laces are the same. learn to either tape, superglue or hotglue your laces. you cant also wear them really loose. if none of that works try not lacing the holes where they are ripping, or get those kooky vert laces that have like a life time gurantee.

You could pull laces off of hiking shoes, those real thick round ones would probably hold up better. Don't buy specialty laces, that's a one way ticket to kookdom. Unless you're hardcore vert.. Already wearing pads and such..

i shoo goo'd a large part of some laces before, it looks weird but it works, probably need try to find something less shiny in the future though.

Paracord holds up maybe 5 times longer than normal laces, but is slippery and thus a fucker to tie a knot that won't undo while skating. Superglue is the answer. I used to struggle with ripping laces. Now I just superglue them after the first tiny session. Its better to make sure where the laces will wear down and the correct lace tightness before gluing as the glue will harden the laces. Also less is more with superglue. You don't want to put too much of it there.

Old Kook Snakes - http://www.oldkook.com/website/html/snakes.html

I break laces in 2 sessions and these literally outlast your shoes.  If i don't have them, I just use a ton of Shoe Goo but the Snakes are nearly indestructible

A drawback to those is they're really slick. They untied very easily until I started putting shoe goo on the spots where the knot is. I'm just going to go back to putting shoe goo where the potential break spots are on normal laces.

Super glue them it adds durability

Super glue is your friend when it comes to skate shoes, i usually get these little 10ml 3 pack tubes and glue down loose parts and common tear areas. as for laces, ive noticed that the laces that come with vans, when you " melt " them a little and then clamp down either side with something flat, i typically use two razor blades, they form a harder plastic looking edge rather then a normal lace, works the same when cutting down the ends of the laces

dunk laces were great. I'm contemplating getting some leather laces, more for durability, but a bit for style

Leather laces tend to come undone easier

I have done this because they were the only laces available at CVS while I was out skating, and they held up for SO long.
They look slightly different than normal laces, obviously, but if that doesn't bother you, it's a pretty simple solution.
