I thought the choice for the ending was great. The 90s curation was a little heavy handed but I’m sure it was fun to make. Overall 7/10.
I thought it wasnt just him solo, shouldve stuck with my og thought.

As many have said before if you looked like that blonde kid in the 90's you'd be vibed into oblivion. Skimmed through a bootleg, everywhere I let it play for a sec was pure cringe. I feel stupid for even scrubbing it. Fuck you Jonah

If it didn’t end with the actual camera operator waving his hand in front of the lens to mark the clip then I’ll be disappointed

If you’re going to make a decent movie about the 90s it’s going to take a few years not 2 months.

I’m pretty sure Joey Suriel and Guy Mariano weren’t worried about being vibed for having long curls while skating at The Courhouse in the 90s.

Or Daewon... But they didn't look like a female. I know there is nothing wrong that, with how the kid looks or his style, but in the 80's and 90's when fag and gay were thrown around so loosely that kid woulda got it bad. I seriously thought homie was a girl the first few times I saw him in videos. Again, nothing wrong with that but 90's kids were pretty fuckin mean. Like Hansen all over again. You're welcome for the link g

I feel like we didn't need this movie for at least another 10 years. Also, probably could've had another hour to develop/finish the story...unless Jonah is going to make a sequel "Early 2000's". Mild tastes of nostalgia were sprinkled about, but I couldn't really get into the movie since it felt so random/chopped up.

Just scanned through it for a sec to have a look - stopped on a scene at the courthouse where IC kid and Nak are talking to some guy on the ledges - hard to tell from the bootleg, but it kinda sounded and looked like Del Tha Funkee Homosapien.

Edit: It's him.

went and saw the shit on Halloween. Movie was kinda weak. Del cameo was hella. As much as I love the band ESG, wasn't nobody bumping them at shop demos or anywhere else in the 90s Jonah. Too much platitude not enough attitude with the characters. Wish i had that red Menace coach jacket though. Peace.

I've never watched a legit bootleg like that before, Mid 90's was the perfect movie to be my first.

I actually liked it.  Definitely understand the complaints about it.  The scene with the brother crying and the self-choke using a SNES controller was so awkward.

Ok, I'm defending it because I sported some Hansen locks back then, Courthouse included. I received minimal shit for it. Skaters were generally accepting of others with a decent enough skill level. Tight pants probably would've been a hard sell, but long hair was okay.

I specifically remember a 90s transworld letter asking if Ed Templeton was gay because he wore tight pants, and if wearing tight pants was gay. So yea... apparently only saying thank you is

i didnt like this at all. it felt like an after school special or some shit like that. so much of it just didnt resonate with me but maybe its because i didnt start skating as a little kid and grew up on the east coast.

Was really excited to see this as the film isn't coming to Australia (that I'm aware of)

Sunny, Lucas Hedges, Olan (while definitely annoying) and Nak were all pretty great.
The main issues I had were:

1) Dialogue - "Don't say thank you, it's gay"

Even though I grew up during the mid 2000s, I have a really hard time imaging someone saying something like that.

2) That girl looked about sixteen, she would not try to hook up with someone who is around 13 at a party?

3) Continuity error with Hedges' necklace in hospital scene

4) Skaters do NOT fuck with skaters who are at that different of a skill level
Y'all really think someone who is getting on Chocolate flow is going to hang around with some kid learning to ollie? Fuck outta here

5) I agree with the comments on Fuckshit's hair, but Piscopo's combed back style wouldn't have flown either

Regardless, the scene with Stevie entering the shop for the first time, and the scene shortly after where he filled up the crew's jug really resonated with me.

6/10 - extra points for including watermelon man

Portrayal of skating aside, the movie as a whole felt really hollow and empty - no plot, no character development, no reason to really care what happened to any of these people - but this scene in particular definitely bugged me. It felt so forced and unbelievable, but I guess that applies to a fair number of aspects of the movie.
