Do people take plea bargains when they’re innocent? Especially if there is no evidence? I took a plea deal once, but I was guilty as shit and didn’t feel like wasting anybody’s time.

People taking plea deals when they didn't do the thing they were charged with is incredibly common, actually. Something tells me this probably isn't one of those times.

I have a forgery I technically didn't do. Girl snitched on me, I was going upstate anyway and my county jail didn't have air conditioning. plead guilty to it, along with other shit, and went to state prison. I cannot imagine the hassle I would have went through trying to take that one charge(oit of like 4 others I did do) to trial. It took literally 11 months before I was even offered a plea deal for everything. I would have been waiting for so long in such a shitty jail and I wanted to get upstate so yeah I plead guilty. That beimg said, my case is a little different. Even if I would have been found not guilty for the physical forgery, there was a conspiracy to commit forgery charge that I had as well that I would have been found guilty of. But to answer the question, yeah a lot of people plead out. Especially when there are a bunch of charges getting wrapped into one plea deal.

That being said, I'd never plead guilty to a crime I didn't do that was in some way related to a child or sex offense. Fuck that noise. I'd rather rot away while I wait for a trial.

Janus, i've never plead [or been acccused] of any sex crimes but you plead to whatever you can live with. most of the time, you'll be held in jail til you plead guilty to something and get released on probation so its a matter of the DA offering you a lesser charge than you went in on. if it's a misdemeanor but you're considered a flight risk, it's often best to 'eat the charge' and get out.
haven't you heard the brouhaha about how bail is predatory on poor [criminals]? people all the time plead to shit. i can't speak on Statch's sitch but it's common.
