Warmup / Session Routines
« on: January 17, 2019, 12:24:03 AM »
What is your warmup or session routine?

Every single time I go out for a session, I do 20 tricks on flat. Sometimes it is all I do, and it is a session on its own as you don't have any particular trick on lock like you used to, especially when you only skate once or twice a week or so. Apart from the below warmup/session routine, if I get through all of the 20 tricks, I'll keep doing repeats faster and better, or start trying heelflip tricks (the arch nemesis).

The 20:
---------
Regular/Switch/Nollie/Fakie ollies, 180s in the all the directions, shuvit, kickflip, frontside and backside flips, treflip, melon grab, and two rotating tricks that come and go through the ages, usually nollie front heel and fakie frontside flip.

Keeps an aging man able to skateboard decently without losing too many of his tricks.

Share yours. :-)

Some cruising around, a few shove its (no pop), no complies, power slides.

If I'm at a park (which is usually the case) some axle stalls and other very basic lip tricks.

I'm over 40 so I really have to ease into it, it takes awhile for sure. it's at least 20min before I feel like I'm good to go.

After a few push-it variations and no-comply's, I'll do the "Straight 8". Sometimes it takes the whole session.

Skate to the bottle on the way to the park/spot. I find it’s best to warm up my elbow first at home though.

Stretch for 10 min. Then do all shovs, 180s, bigspins then move to the straight 8. So between stretching and those tricks, it's like a 20 minute warmup for me. That's if I'm at the local park. For street, I just do stretches and see what happens from there.

1. 20 min of positive affirmations

2. Smoke a cig

3. Straight up murder the spot

4. Make a clean getaway

  • 10 minutes of stretching
  • Tie shoes, untie shoes, retie shoes
  • P-rod hat prayer
  • Ask the spot if it wants that smoke
  • Go to the store to grab a drink before session
  • Never actually come back from the store

Stretch a little...push around the park perimeter, back 180, rock and roll, 50/50 and then I guess I am as ready as I am gonna be.

I feel like ollies are one of the worst tricks not warmed up. Like, you get ready, crouch down, and then pop it 10 inches..

Nollie and nollie shuvs for warm up surely

Usually..

- Open a beer
- Leg stretch
- Bunch of quick shove-its and no complys
- Then I do like.. 50 flatground kickflips one after another
- Cruise some transition to get the speed feel and grind some 50's

These days I mostly skate the same skatepark. That park is about 15 minutes away pushing on my board. I usually push switch to get there. When I get to the park I do long regular and switch manuals on flat then I do long switch and regular nose manuals on flat. Skate arround a bit and stretch. Usually I stretch my calves, my thighs and my hips. I also move arround my feet with my hands squizing them in all directions. I saw chris Joslin do that before a demo and I found that it really helped with some chronic pain in my ancles. Then I will slowly start skating whatever and however I feel like that day. I guess it takes me about 30 minutes to warm up. I am old.
I have been doing that same routine for about a year now. It is fine sometime not to do it, if I really don't feel like it, because I do it on most days.

Stretching and pushups at home guarantees a sesh for me.
Pushing around like an idiot to the point i think i go “fast” is my warm up and full session. Maybe ollie up stuff if i feel confident, try flat ground flip tricks if i’m, like the kids say, FIRED UP.
But really, having my front foot run over by a bus of mentally challenged and disabled people when i was 11 is really catching up to me decades later.
I’m lucky to do still this, cant complain

I just want everyone to know that I'm only 32.8% skateboarder, and that's on a good day. The rest is just soy and cum.

Stretch for a bit, roll around for about 5 min on a qp and banks usually not popping my board, gradually starting with a couple basic ledge tricks then nollie flip on flat. Been stuck in that routine for a minute now but does the trick for me

I kinda have a routine I've been doing for like the past 5 or 6 years. I start off with some stretching. Then some Ollie's on flat. At my local park I'll do fs half cab the pyramid then 50 the low box. Come back again do fs half cab again then front crook the low box. Do that twice. Then nollie 180 the pyramid then half cab nose slide the taller ledge. I do that twice. In the end I'll do nollie cab the pyramid then nollie front crook.

if its the summer i usually cycle into town about 7/8 miles so that gets the legs feeling pretty warm, atm bus life. liter of water beforehand, basic stretches/walking around to limber up, cruise around 5/10 minutes with some solid pushes then maybe a game of skate etc.
