Sent rowley a box of gun stuff a while ago in exchange for photos that I never got. Fee free to send me a board when you see this.
Shalom.
Rowley is not a stand up guy huh? Bummer
who woulda thougt
Well, fuck Rowley. I knew he was into hunting, which is lame, but anyone who poses with a dead animal, smiling, is a piece of shit. I don't care if you're contributing to 'conservation' or whatever. God damn social media - another legend ruined.
It’s an Elk. Relax.
Helping rich dudes hunt big game is pretty lame. The response to this board brand is karma
Bout to go off like a dweeb so my apoglies before hand cause this is actually an interesting topic
Big game hunting for sport in Africa nd shit is lame no doubt, even if most of the meats/furs go to local tribes. If you flying over and killing giraffes and lions and shit him that is whack. Ivory hunters deserve the worst. However, is some circumstances conversation through culling is a needed evil even if its hard for a lot of people to wrap their brains around.
Put into perspective though the elk pictured is only found in California and was on the brink of extinction 30 years ago, conservation acts were so successful that now there are too many of these elk. So many that they are running out of food on lands that were more than suffice in providing them with food the entirety of their existence there. This results in them expanding outward and searching for new feeding grounds, these grounds are owned by ranchers and cattle who have occupied the space for nearly a century. Cattle are docile, they dont give a shit about fences, they know that's where they stay, they know thats where they will eat. Elk have no fucking clue, all the know is that fence is in my way of food, so that fence needs to go. Witch leads now to a loss of funds for the rancher, and possible losses of cattle. Coexistence often times is only possible through selective culling.
You no how many critters would go extinct if wolves, mountain lions and Panthers were allowed to reproduce exponentially with no population control? Same could be said about these elk, hundred of thousands of acres of grassland exisitng since the beginning of our inhabitantance here have been depleted in matter of decades. This displaces wildlife in vast numbers and does more harm to wildlife overall than simply issuing a few tags every year to thin the older male population out. Judging by his size and antler set on that buck, he lived a long and happy life.
Tl-dr. And sorry 4 being a dweeb.
I know a lot of open minded vegans and vegetarians who understand this. As counter intuitive as it seems. Culling for conversation is neccessary, the Elk geoff was pictured with is a part of one of these programs.
I’m kind of the reverse of Rowley, I’m a vegetarian who used to hunt and fish, from a family of hunters and even a hunting guide in there.
I don’t have much complaint with sustenance hunting, it’s a very honest way to get meat, if you don’t have access to a lot of modern day conveniences.
I agree with some of the facts you presented above, but I have a problem with the conclusion I highlighted.
The ecosystems you talk about, the predators you mention all existed for millennia without the human need for ‘control’. Which, in the case of wolves, was almost complete anihilation. Or another native species, the buffalo, almost killed to extinction to deprive native communities of food.
We have upset any balance that existed, and continue to maintain this artificial state you need to rationalize human intervention and the killing of predators, as if they are the cause of animal extinction and not our fucked up agricultural priorities.
All of this done to keep cattle, and the massive ecological problems they cause.
Ranching (and all like-minded industries that see nature as something to be screwed for profit) is the problem, not other species.
The modern meat industry is fucking horrendous, and hunting is only an ethical option for marginal communities.
