What's up with the 8.375 decks? Seems a weirdly specific width that's common for twin tails. Are those all coming out of the same shop?

Common? Please share.

Ishod = 8.3
Quasi = 8.25 (says 8.375 but never ever is)
Santa cruz/creature 8.4 only 8.3 in the middle, 8.25 as it tapers
Soveriegn Sect makes the only true 8.375 and it's a BOAT

I love me some 8.375s, so again, please share these common 8.375 twins.

It's common not only for twins, .375 is just 3/8 translated into decimals. It's right in the middle between 8.25 and 8.5.

On that note, the Ishod 8.3 is often listed as 8.375 but it's not, it's actually really 8.3.

Ok that makes sense. Guess I never paid any attention to that size until looking into this shape, and with the overall twin tail selection being so limited, it seems an outsized representation.

@Xen , sorry for any confusion or if I got your hopes up. Just my brain playing tricks over here. Glad you said something about Sovereign Sect though. I've got that Habitat currently, and it does feel a bit hefty.

Cross posting but this is probably the first symmetrical shape I’ve ever set up…

First post in this thread so just gonna start that I’m on my 11th TT over about a year with a couple more on ice. The last year of skating has been good haha so I don’t see myself going back to nose-tails.

Been on the Crail Twin “Tips” mostly. I’d say they are the steepness of a tail (mellow) with the length of a nose. Dont know if that’s already been mentioned.

First TTs were Bobby/Ishod shapes and was sold on the twin thing right away cause it was more fun to throw around without 'fixing' the orientation and everything wears out slower and more evenly.

Someone previously mentioned something about noses being bigger and steeper than tails because it was an (over)reaction to the no-nose days? makes sense I guess and pretty c00L sk8 history if that's true.

so i would imagine the best way to skate these is to set a board up with new trucks and just skate em and break them both in as you go evenly?

kind of been wondering about these. cant imagine it would be a good idea to set up one of these boards with trucks that have been broken in on a normal board. hmm

If you have defined front truck crooks or back truck heel side grinds that really stand out, you might want to try new trucks on it, but if they don't have very defined single direction use, they should be fine.

Of course if you think it might be annoying and you can afford new trucks too, why not?

Setting up a new complete, or almost new everything can be quite refreshing for some people, but an absolute disaster for others, depending on what you like or prefer, but as with anything new, wearing it in gently is always good, especially with a twin which more often than not ends up feeling more comfortable on one end than the other, at least from some people I know who always skate them.

@Mbrimson88 is right (as usual) but what I would add is if you have trucks that aren’t TOO worn/grooved, just grab a fresh set of bushings to put on. That’s what I’ve done in the past when I’ve gone from a standard popsicle to a twin and it works just fine if you take the time to break in the bushings properly skating the board both ways.
If you see offensive comments, just let it go into one eye and let it out of the other eye, no tears and not sadness or anger.

Just so it’s out there, here’s a comparison between shapes of the 8.25 and 8.5 Real Ishod decks. 8.25 tapers a lot compared to the 8.5. The 8.5 is about a month old. 8.5 is a 2 and 8.25 is a 4 in the press.

Merry Christmas!

Ha yeah, re bushings - for sure.

It is amazing how much different a set of bushings look from front to back when used in a directional setup.  Often with new bushings I run them for a bit and then swap them round - front to back, then they tend to wear a bit more evenly and have fewer issues with them.

The fresh bushings idea is a good one though, especially if you are used to aftermarket bushings, or stock replacements that are what you would usually use anyway.

Interesting, they're using DSM / Resin-7 for their boards, meaning the woodshop has twin molds in stock and we should get more R7 twins in 2025, the immediate one that comes to mind if the Opera 8.5. Louie (Jacuzzi Unlimited) mentioned over DM they're working on a twin shape for John Dilo too.

I gotta quit checking this thread. I’ve got a pile of non twins I need to skate, but Roger coming through with the dimensions I want. Fucking finally. Not sure why Deathwish has been the only company offering an 8.5 twin with 14.25ish wb (dw is 14.28).
[close]

Why I have trust issues:

(HLC btw)

The 8.5x31.75 dimensions are correct. However, the WB is fucking 14" if NOT slightly LESS than 14"...WT A F...Still gonna skate it and see how it feels.

It's wide at the kicks like the 8.5 toy machine, it has lots of fingers of flat, almost THREE...was gonna ride indys now I'm not sure what to set up on it...Thunders? Gotta work that WB out a bit...
[close]

I ordered one of these last night. I’ll measure it and see if it is consistent with what you found. Tactics had it listed as “symmetrical”.

Moving to the UK soon and I'm stressing (completely unreasonably) about not being able to find twins to skate. I saw Roger is doing Twins but it looks like dimensions are all over the place, depending on country of origin. I'll probably order from HLC's B2C website (https://skatemenu.com/collections/skateboard-decks?filter.p.vendor=ROGER&filter.p.m.custom.deck_shape=TWIN+TAIL&sort_by=manual) but I have no idea about their dims.

If anyone has info on Roger (HLC) twins that would be great.

Edit: looks like Jart and Cruzade (with their horrible graphics) are doing Twins too:
https://skatemenu.com/collections/skateboard-decks?filter.p.m.custom.deck_shape=TWIN+TAIL&sort_by=manual

Edit Edit: Went straight to the source (the HLC product catalog) and they have them listed as 8.5 x 32.12 x 14.2, I can deal with those dims.

I noticed that R7 on the listing and immediately was wondering if it was DSM wood too.

Good to hear some people are still able to get boards made to whatever they want from DSM, as well as twins now too.

In the latest Nine Club Ryan Decenzo talks about getting DSM Impact boards for his models for 2 Cents Skateboards (and using a different woodshop for the other models). And I guess the Smoke Beer decks are somewhat limited also. So seems like they are open to pretty low minimums.

Habitat Twins have big fat kicks that are more nose sized even if they're called twin tails, 7"+ if I recall. It makes for very long boards though.

Crail Twins have 6.84" kicks which for me is more nose than tail, but a nicer overall length since they have shorter 14" wheelbases.

Deathwhish twins vary, Foy's twin are 6.75" but I think there was a Neen twin shape with much longer kicks that they even listed as Twin Nose and again, veeeeerrryyyyy long, but I'm not sure if it's still around, the last ones I have seen were not that big.

Habitat / Alien Workshop have wide tips, nothing like a FA shovel but very rounded.

And as other have lamented about - very long at 32.25", best with Venture Forged

Got that same Bobby board a couple of weeks ago as a 'maybe I can make this work this time'....still didn't like it...comes across as very waterlogged feeling and sounding to me. Oddly enough I (and a buddy of mine) had issues sliding it at a spot that slides great. Chalked it up to user error but took it apart anyway.

Two firsts with this box actually - never skated a slick deck. I've finally had enough bruised ass cheeks from sticking on fs lips/boards something had to change haha.

Going to mess with them back to back at the diy tonight see if I can fall in love with either. Really loved the feel of the Ishod 8.5 beast but those fat/full ass tails fucked with my rotations too much - maybe I'm just a pussy.

So Ive literally spent the past year trying a variety of setups. I tried numerous twins from different companies and different trucks to try to find something that clicked, with basically no avail. I tried a bunch of 8.25s from girl/chocolate, aws, primitve, real and heroin, with a mix of both ventures and thunders. For one reason or another i could not get along with any of them.

2 years ago i skated an 8.5 ishod twin and thought i liked it, so i said fuck it and got one. Set it up on some thunder team hollow 149s with 52 mm classics that i havent used in over a year. I went out yesterday to skate and literally landed a handful of flip tricks first try with no warmup at all. I was baffled… Not in a full year of skating those other setups was i able to do this.

If i ever get on this forum again and talk about trying a different twin shape, one of you needs to come over and punch me in the face and tell me to quit being a moron and just skate that ishod 8.5.
