That's a more blatant scam than "send 1 ETH get 5 back".  You can almost surely bet the winners of 1st 2nd and 3rd place were alternate accounts/fake identities/friends of his - so this is really just net gain of ~$50k.

Well I mean that's how raffles work. You put down some money for chance to win, not a lot of money in comparison to the prize you could win, but you get enough people to enter they can win the prize and the money raise that wasn't part of the expenses goes to whatever the raffle is raising money for.

That being said, if you are sending $100 to Jason Jesse you deserve to be scammed.

But it was a buddhist raffle guys, Buddhists have been holding raffles for thousands of years now. Don’t let modern day scammers take away the true meaning of raffles. I also would have accepted, “but the Hell’s Angels scammed people, it’s all part of biker culture” or “but he has the best frontside Ollie in the game, who cares if he scams people” 🙆‍♀️

it's not a scam.  in the last year people have realized they can get twice what their bike is worth by raffling it.  there has been at least 100 in the "bike scene".  he just did it with a car

just because jason jessee is an idiot doesn't make raffling something any less of a thing?

two posts up explains why the posts are gone.. not because he kept everyone's money..

if anything "pray for him" that the tax man will catch wind to it.

Raffles on IG are for suckers. Too many hot rod and chopper dudes doing them lately, and only a small handful have been scams. Of course this one could be a scam, but who knows,he's probably still trying to figure out how to transfer that money to his bank account.

Jason just has to start washing dishes again.

All raffles are scams. There are laws in place so that only actual charitable causes can legally run this hustle.

Legally it seems it was a scam.
Morally I am torn between a) everyone throwing money at 1010 does not deserve better and b) anything 1010 and AndyBoy promote/do is a fraud by nature.

In its latest bit of marketing genius, Fucking Awesome is raffling off Andrew Allen’s Lincoln Town Car. 100 tickets are available now via the FA online store for $100 a piece. The purchase comes with Allen’s debut Hockey deck signed by him, and a shirt designed Mike Gigliotti.

https://patch.com/california/lajolla/bp--how-to-do-a-promotional-lottery-without-breaking-the-law

Quote
Conducting a lottery (other than certain charitable raffles) is a misdemeanor under California law. Penal Code § 319 defines a lottery as "any scheme for disposal or distribution of property by chance, among persons who have paid or promised to pay any valuable consideration for the chance of obtaining such property..."

In everyday language this means:

1. a prize
2. distribution of the prize by chance, and
3. payment for that chance.

Let's look at the terms that define the code:

1. Prize: Anything of value can be a prize, from a beach towel with Molly's logo on it to a free hour of training.
2. Chance: Chance is present when a person is not automatically entitled to a prize, but instead only has a possibility of receiving the prize.
3. Payment: Payment includes anything given in exchange for a chance to win – not just money. If Molly requires a person to sign up for her services in order to be entered into the raffle, she has accepted a payment for that raffle.

Molly's promotion will not be a prohibited lottery if at least one of the three elements – prize, chance or payment – is missing.

Molly wants to give away a prize, so she needs to omit either chance or payment to keep her promotion legal. A promotion without chance includes a free giveaway. Molly can decide to give a beach towel to every person who signs up for personal training at the chamber event. Since everyone who signs up automatically receives the prize, no chance is involved. If Molly has a limited towel supply, she can restrict the giveaway to the first 10 people who sign up. No chance is involved because those 10 people receive the prize and no one else could possibly win.

Shout out to the dude who was willing to stand with 1010 through the swastikas, the Iron Horse interview, the Highway Murderers controversy, and that mediocre Purple part, but drew the line at this sketchy raffle.
Haha.
But yeah, that's what you get for being a 1010 supporter, especially in 2019.

I was actually looking up the differences between a raffle and a sweepstakes last night to see if it was illegal. I just started thinking about the "No purchase necessary" laws but it was too deep for me to get really far into.
