Being pro-union and having marxist views I am what you would probably call a lefty. If I was a woman I think I would also be a feminist.
I liked Dave Chapelle's special. The bits that were critical of identity politics were super valid. Just because you are rich, white and have the world's best job does not mean you could also be unhappy enough to kill yourself. He suggested that lgbtq is not a natural group, but an alliance forged despite lots of differences. He expressed his uneasyness with trans rights groups from the stand point of a black man (like he has done in a few other bits). In a pretty funny bit he compared the black crack epidemic to the mostly white heroin epidemic. He uses identity politics himself, while in other bits severly criticizing them. Because: Fuck! life is complicated and emotions seldomly fit exactly into one world view.
You should be happy stand-up is still a place where ambivalence can be expressed!
