Hypebeast - Are We Witnessing the Death of Vert Skateboarding?

Elliot Sloan is interviewed about the lack of ramps, access, contest drying up, and change of interest. Honestly not a lot of new info here.

Park / Bowl skating has set up on Vert's corner and won't be leaving anytime soon.

Yeah, big bowl/park skating is definitely crowding out vert, mostly because people have big bowls at their local parks and finding a wood ramp is basically impossible without knowing someone who knows someone or building it yourself.  But this is basically how things have been since the late 80s, except more people skate transition now because of the 00s park construction boom.  How is vert any more dead than it was then?  If anything, the number of gnarly park skaters coming up seems like it could actually contribute to a resurgence in vert since there are more people now with the skills to do it well.

Skating transition and skating vert are 2 entirely different things. They don't even have vert contests on Dew Tour anymore, and X-Games doesn't televise vert. They have been replaced by the bowl/park contests.

Vert died with Tony, Bucky, Bob, and Andy.

Vert is definitely dead in the sense that you mean it, but the thing that killed it once and for all in my mind was probably Bob Burnquist treating the megaramp like it was a miniramp. I'm mostly saying: wherever there's a vert ramp, people might get interested in skating them.  If someone like Ronnie Sandoval got interested in vert later in his career, maybe people would think it was neat to see someone like him skate vert?  Tastes change, nothing is permanent, vert may come back and we will all start skating 38mm wheels again, etc.

Vert is sick. I wish I had access to a ramp, but they're prohibitively expensive to build and maintain. Especially in the climate where I live.

Far from dead. It sucks that I’m having trouble running down big ramps because I’ve never been this good at vertical skating. 12’ feels like 6’

It's been postponed indefinitely so he can get the last feature he had in mind, but didn't get in time for the premiere.

First Supreme product I've ever been even remotely interested in, to be honest.

No thanks, I'll just save money and build a 10 footer with a 13 foot extension in an old barn.

This article is about 30 years behind the times.

Doesn't anyone remember Gator struggling to deal with the death of vert skateboarding?

"That guy is double parked."
"Who cares? There are people starving to death! Besides, how does that affect you? Does it lessen the joy of parking?

I was in Ocean City, Maryland earlier this summer and the local park there had a vert ramp as well. I honestly think it's the first one I've ever seen in a public skate park.

Oddly enough I see personal Vert ramps being built all the time on the gram.   Chris Borst.   That hot chic from AZ.  That chuch in Missouri somewhere.
