Oddly enough I see personal Vert ramps being built all the time on the gram.   Chris Borst.   That hot chic from AZ.  That chuch in Missouri somewhere.

C'mon "journalists"

Vert is sick. I wish I had access to a ramp, but they're prohibitively expensive to build and maintain. Especially in the climate where I live.

All the kids these days call the 8 foot wall of a bowl "vert" anyways so who cares...

Let's be honest here. Standard vert ramps (12 foot+) are very scary to skate. They are for expert skaters. And everyone else skates 4-6 foot walls. Go to any good park and no one skates big stuff unless you live in San Diego area.

The most time I've spent on a vert ramp was in the 90s when my man and I smoked a blunt on top of one since no one went to that part of the park.

It was pretty sketchy getting down but it was fun skating the street part afterwards. Can confirm vert is dead.

Besides the private vert ramp thing, who the fuck has the money and disposition to actually become pro? Vert is fucking ridiculous, it's not like street where you find huge stairs everywhere, you might even have a vert ramp where you can go to, but where are you going to continually find bigger stuff for you to improve to pro level? The only way is being friends with all these pros with the gigantic backyard ramps.

Vert is dead until dudes are man enough to wear pads.

Maybe someday the park guys will realize they could be blasting 6-8’ airs instead of 2-4’ (Grant and Pedro excepted).

Vert's been dead since '92. It's been a walking zombie since it was revived by the 900

Plenty of new blood, but you really only see them if you watch contests. There's like 7 people who enjoy watching vert (myself included).

There is actually a video rental place about 5 minutes from my house. It’s gotta be a front for something illegal because it’s a fucking video store in 2019.

Didn’t it just evolve to bowl skating which is far more interesting anyway?

Traditional vert is like tennis, they go back...and forth. And back...and forth...

You know I thought these forums were a for skating not discussing fetishes

I ain’t witnessing shit! I’m gonna turn my back & pretend it’s not happening.
However, I absolutely WILL attend the funeral, because vert came to mine when I died.

I wanna play you in a game of SKATE for the right to continue talking shit on me.  You think you got me?

It's been said but it is the largest expense to cater for the smallest group.
Vert is amazing, scary fast and you are allowed to pad up and get away with pushing it.
The 2 indoor vert ramps near me both closed abruptly, right after I upgraded the contents of the pad bag, and there is no way I'm trying the same stuff in a 9 foot bowl.
Hey, hey, hey. Don't be mean. We don't have to be mean because, remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

Shit, stop the presses. Somebody should tell these fools that freestyle is in danger of becoming unfashionable as well.

vert and street are kinda dumb as terms

vert is explicitly tied to half pipes whereas street can mean anything

it's like saying street skating is dead because the rail chomper & 12 stair hammer video parts of the 2000s faded out

also, bowl and transition skating are more popular than ever

History has come full circle. Vert skating emerged in the early 1980s when all the big skate parks closed and skating survived on backyard vert ramps. Ramps like Tahoe held the scene together in those times, and now parks are back and park skating has its own world championships and is part of the Olympics while public vert ramps have become a rare sight.

What's lame is that vert is really its own beast like someone already said. There are vert tricks you won't see in a park, where someone will throw a 540 but you're not going to see the level of progression the main vert dudes have.
