Real 8.75 Kelch Flyer slick with jessup, tapers to 8.5 over the front truck and 8.25 over the back
Venture 5.8 highs with bones mediums
52mm conical Dialtones
Bones reds

Ive been considering buying that board, but I figure its too beatiful to skate...

7.8+ is a size that always worked well for me. I’ve never settled on 129/139 (really 5.0 vs 139).

Like, how bad could the wheel manufacturers be Syd Bear? We all already know that Darkstar makes wheels.

I dunno I just like seeing 95a wheels and the only ones I can think of are those OJ elite reissues from a couple years back.

Fairly turny compared to an 8.5. Still nice and stable. Makes flipping your board a little bit easier since it's kinda magic carpet-y. Can't really compare to much since I pretty much only ride Ace now.

for some reason i've always found it easier to 360 flip on bigger boards, i guess the (generally) longer length helps as the board tends to lean more when you put pressure on the back foot making it easier to get that scoop.

Deck is from a batch I got made from Pennswood
8.3 wide, “matador concave” (light concave, slight spoonlike curve to nose and tail)
Ace 44 trucks
Spitfire classic 60mm wheels
Reds bearings
1/4inch risers

I'm tempted to try the big wheel, small(er) deck/ truck combo again. 8.25" with 139s and 58/60mm was my go to set up in the mid to late 90s but I think it stunted my progression.... still fun... but I started progressing again when I went lower and wider...

I can’t remember exactly what wheels I rode in the 90’s but I think it was pretty similar to yours, maybe a hair smaller deck. I just moved up to 58/60mm from 53/4mm on the 8.3 deck because the streets are all jacked up from the winter and I’m really enjoying the extra speed. I have some 8.12 decks I mean to ride soon so I’m curious how that will feel with the bigger wheels

trucks with an 8" axle length (indy 139, thunder 147, ace 33, venture 5.2, etc.) is the way to go :^)

I appreciate that.. I skated 139’s today on the set up I posted
Earlier after a lil getting use to it feels better much better than the
Venture 5.0 low I had on my previous 7.875

That nakel board above just looks very cool all round

It looks like you are trying to work through some serious issues with that grip job.

Heard the podcast was dope, gave it a listen and it was pleasant. Couldn’t find any episodes where they talked about gear, unfortunately.

It was a great podcast. One of the few I miss now that he discontinued it. Had great east coast guests on.  Really feeling the DOA stuff too. Paying homage to the 90s without being cheesy.
