What's the difference between thunder 149 and 148?
[close]

The difference is nothing. Marketing. It's all hype and it's all horseshit. I legitimately skate 149 on everything from 8' to 8.38' and they work for me on every one of those board sizes. Conversely, Erik Ellington skates 147 on 8.5 and they almost look like freestyle trucks on a board that size. It's such a personal thing, just comes down to preference. But DLX has everyone believing they need specific shit for specific sizes and if people aren't gear nerds (like us) it confuses the hell out of the consumer.

I feel you, i never was aware of sizes til i was in my twenties. i'm not a gear nerd i just have the madness and have really specific tastes. i recently sized down from indy 149 to thunder 148 and i feel like my skating is better. my board would primo a lot when i rode the indys, they turned amazing though.

so my next question is for those of you who ride thunder 149 on 8.25 decks, how do they skate compared to the 148s?

148s are great trucks. but i rode 149s on 8.25 decks and i feel either fit good on 8.25. Yes 148 is obviously flush, but if i had to choose i would just get 149s. Plus more room to grind thats how i see it. But both sizes are great

don't have the 148s to compare them but they sit pretty flush for me on a 8.25

149s on an 8.25 was I used to ride until ACE 44s came out, the combo skates fine, stable with room to grind and wheels are flush with the rail and the nut, while it does stick out, you can't see it unless you are looking and if you are looking, you are not skating.

I prefer 144/148s on 8.25s; currently skating an 8.38 with ACE44s tho.

Had an 8.25" Baker waiting in the wings (dims on sticker differed than actual board dims) - went to my local and traded up (been eyeing this board as it was).

8.38 FULL SE (14.6x WB is messing with my kickflips something bad; it's long as fuck too but it feels comfy.)
44s with Bones Meds w/bottom washer, mag plates, krux pin
53mm OJ Insane -a-thane Hardline shape
Swiss Six
Thunder bolts I think
Leftover ML grip from like a year ago or so.

Thanks!

It feels really nice under foot, it's a 'II' so the concave is pretty nice as I prefer as steep and deep as I can get (didn't have a choice this time around). In bowls I don't feel cramped and my foot isn't covering my front bolts like I usually do when riding shorter boards and WBs and ollies feel soooo good, just the flippy shit that feels slow (only day two tho).

I can't find mags anywhere in the states anymore; these should last until the bolts holes get fucked or they break, pin wobble won't happen tho =D

I'm coming off swapping STF and F4s, most people won't give the oj insane a thanes a shot but I can't ride anything else now as they feel so fast compared to anything out there (regular OJ thane is slow and soft feeling); it's funny, my local park is SPF, OJ insanes or F4, in that order.

Well.. the difference is definitely noticeable in the feel of the truck sizes, but I feel like it doesn't necessarily have to do with board size. Too big of a size gap feels weird, but now I pick the truck size I wanna ride and then the board size I wanna ride and don't really consider how they square up.

Indy 149's on a 8.12 board feels fine. Indy 149's on a 8.5 board feels good too. However, Indy 139's/144's on either doesn't feel the same as the 149's. Not better or worse, just different really.

I just feel like truck size makes for how stable and big boyish a setup feels no matter the board size.

I’m actually pretty curious too. I thought 7.3’s were only junior sized boards or something
