How are the 5.8's on the 8.25?

I want to switch over to venture from thunder. I've been running 148 but its slightly tucked on the 8.25 Quasi's I ride.

I like it, I usually ride indy 149s on a 8.25-8.3. Its flush or a thread over but not noticeable while riding. So far, I'm liking the Ventures.

I knew it, I hated my board.
Please tell me that I'm not the only one who tells on the first 10 minutes of skating a board if is a yay or nah.
Trying a smaller size since it was cheap and you can't mess with a classic:

Real 8.38 x 32.25
Ace 44
Socket grip (comes for free so that's good)
F4 Classics full 54mm
Bones Swiss super 6
The sizing of the 44 couldn't be better for this

Stupid question and may not be the right thread BUT, are you supposed to replace your bushings after a while due to wear or tear? Or you guys just swap them out because you don't like the stock bushings?

It definitely takes some getting used too. I went from Thunders to Venture and I never felt like I could get the bushings as loose as I wanted. My balance and positioning for tricks felt weird all and all, I feel like an idiot now for not sticking with them.

Mixture of both. I personally will skate stock bushings and will swap them out for comfort as well.
For example, I recently swapped the stock Theeve bushings for a pair of Indy barrel ones and I love the stability.

My screen sucks- no bottom bushing on the Bones/Thunder combo?

Man, this thread shows the recent Venture hype. Everyone I know is on them and claiming best ever, no more floppy Indy setups.

I think its just the bad lighting and angle and dirt. Bottom bushing for sure. I actually just swapped the bushings for new ones on lunch.

so do the bones bushings work on thunders? maybe its becasuse I skate the thunder 147, maybe they don’t work as well in that size? also, I notice every time I get thunders, the top bushing washer pinches against the sides of the hanger and digs in, it kind of looks like that’s happening to yours too?

You saying you can't get the ventures loose enough? Use the stock bushings but put a bones washer on the top if you have one. Then brand new kingpin nuts on loose as possible. I had a similiar problem

Since I am A pretty large person I swap out stock bushings for a little stiffer option since I get so much wheel bite.
I'm skating the dlx supercush 94a green ones in my ventures.
I don't think my trucks are tight for me, but if you weigh 150 and jumped on my board you would be bummed.

I’ve never noticed an issue running bones in thunder. I’ve been doing it for years. As far as the washer it might be. Hasn’t changed how they act yet. The bones also come with some replacement washers that are barely bigger than the top bushing

As always is just a matter of personal preference.
In my case I always stuck to stock bushings, once or twice I tried bones ones but they felt odd for some tricks for me so I'm just using whatever comes with my trucks and I'll replace them only if they break

in my experience whenever ive tried to replace old, worn in or blown out bushings with new ones it just never feels "right" - i guess it's could be down to the way the kingpin/nut wears down. when your original bushings blow out and start becoming too loose you might tighten it up a bit to try and get it closer to how you like making the kingpin nut sit lower on the truck. when you buy new bushings which arent lower due to being crushed/blown out it'll put the kingpin nut higher up causing it to then catch on grinds etc. recently i stuck some bones hardcores into a set of thunder 149s that are coming up on about a year old and i just couldn't get them to feel right. not saying theres no merit to having a fiddle and swapping things around and im sure those deep into truck madness will tell me im wrong but imo when trucks get to the point you're having to swap out bushings to make them feel good again or you're constantly having to try and rethread or glue axle nuts you'll probably never get them to feel the way you want.

that being said i dont take my own advice, my bushings are comprised of the bottoms being some shit stock hard bushings and the tops being blown out thunder top bushings, 2 of my axle nuts are hammered the fuck on, anothers glued on and the other is just in a constant state of spinning.

from personal experience thunders come with 90s stocks and i want something harder so i switch em out as soon as i setup new trucks...

Just for context I am around 210lbs. I tried to put Indy soft red bushings in them and it wasn't loose enough. I guess to clarify loose, ventures have a tendency to hang up and lift the unweighted wheel before maxing out the bottom bushings compression ability. But if you get them set up right, they will dive into the turn more before bottoming and keep the wheels on the ground.

Something anecdotal I noticed when swapping to lighter baseplates there's no difference between a lo and high venture baseplate. Usually the lo kingpin will be shorter and more relaxed angle. All the design difference must be in the hangars. Might not be a bad thing but also might mean a truck that is not specifically optimized or tweaked for anything really.

I tired bones bushings a couple times with Thunders, but there were a few issues that made me remove them - first, the clicking noise. They clicked loudly when you turn (the hard core of the bushing clicking in and out of the kingpin hole in the hangar), the top bushing refused to stay in the seat and kept folding over the edge on the hangar, and the cores separated from the rest of the bushing pretty quick. I was surprised because I haven't heard of others having this issue, and I definitely put them in correctly. I just stick with the standard green Thunder bushings. I have several sets saved up.

Went from 150 to 200 so I figure that may help a bit.
But, yes I felt that extra wheel lifting which helped on tricks like pressure flips. I should also mention that I got to the point that I loosened my trucks to the point that I hand tightened the nuts. It sucked because then the nut would fall off.

My "normal" board is 8.3, indy 149s, 53s.
A few months back I made a bigger setup, 8.9, 159s, 58s. It was so much fun, I decided to make a 169 setup.
And here she is.
Pocket Pistols Gonz graphic for Jeremy Henderson, advertised as 10" wide. But its only 9.75 at its widest.
Indy 169s with soft red bushings
F4 classics 99d 60mm
Reds, Mob
This thing goes. I've been wanting to make a big setup like this for a minute. But finding the right board was harder than I thought. I wanted something with a smaller nose. And a wheelbase in the 14.3 to 14.75 zone. I had my eye on this one baker shaped board, Por Vida, nice nose but the wheelbase was only 14. This bad boy has a 14.5 wheelbase. Really fast and fun in the pools and banks. But then I tried to ollie this grate thing on flat ground and it felt so slow and heavy. So it has it's limitations. Add another to the quiver.

the hang up is literally from the top washer cutting into the hanger. If you take it off or replace with smaller they can bottom out easily. I used a spare Ace washer that doesn't cut and it was a pretty noticeable difference. That's some shitty engineering.
