Why does there seem to be a rise in pros riding riser pads? I saw Hjalte on Insta rocking them.

I use them on forged trucks. nothing lighter than a forged baseplate. nothing more annoying than forged being thinner than cast and making them a bit lower.

adding a thin riser pad gives you the weight of a forged with a cast height (maybe a bit higher).

Doesn't this defeat a large chunk of the purpose?

Karsten Kleppan, Oski, I think Casper Brooker, lots of the Euro dudes on Thunders.

I went full on research mode to figure this out cuz I couldn’t not get wheelbite with my trucks as loose as I wanted. Haven’t tossed them on yet as getting used to Thunder seems to have solved it.

I thought the whole point of forged was "lighter and stronger" i never read anything about them being forged for height. Risers dont weigh anything either so you get a lighter and slightly higher truck..

Well yeah. But, you pointed out that the risers make up the weight which defeats the purpose of the lighter truck.

worded that wrong. sorry.
The forged gives you the weight and the pad the height. Thunder forged with pads still weigh less than cast

Boardhead (local chinese brand) 8.125
Thunder 148 hi's
Spitfire f4 99a 52mm
Bones swiss

Was riding an 8.25 and now sized down - had to tighten my trucks a little but other than that no big difference

nice set up, how do those things handle against pebbles? I’d be worried to skate around on those wheels.
