On the same deck too.  Can anyone confirm that Quasi changed their 8.375 shape from early on to now?  I don't remember liking my older JJ one as much.

Quasi 8.3's are my go to. Most recently had the Claire 8.3 and it's the exact same shape as a Bledsoe 8.3 (drip graphic) from a couple years ago. Definitely has a more pointed nose than their 8.25's and 8.5's etc. I emailed Quasi a while back because I thought the pointier 8.3 might be a one off or something, but they said they use the same shape for all their 8.3's and they're purposefully less square.

I find the 8.3 shape a nice in between for quasi’s pointy shape and square shape.

Total newb here. Skated when I was younger, stopped, and now the hankering's back for whatever reason. Went to my local shop last week, stood on some boards, and ended up going with an 8.5". Essentially going for a cruiser. I'd love to hear any and all critiques/suggestions of this setup:

Hard Bones bushings (I'm like 180 lbs.)
Indy 149mm stage 11 standards
7/8” allen hardware
54mm Spitfire F4 full conical 99d
Baker logo 8.5", OG cut, mellow concave
Bones Swiss bearings...w/o or w/ shields?
Mob grip

I agree with Mr. Worrest, but Appleyard did have a good point here at 1:48

hey welcome back to skating man!

Thanks, appreciate it!

I've had my share of injuries over the last decade (read: torn labrum in my hip and recently a torn rotator cuff tendon that's still on the mend) and neither were even skating related. I'm def a little nervous in light of the injuries for obvs reasons and given everything I went through just to get the surgeries. I'm well past the stage of trying anything more than probably cruising around and even that scares me some.

For whatever reason though I really wanted a board to push around on some fairly safe flat. Miss the feeling under my feet tbh and it's been a *long* time since standing on one. Wheels/deck are still in transit but once it's all ready to go I'll be sure to post some pics here.

Haha, "you know a G's coming when you hear that." Appleyard is so damn good but that def doesn't apply to me so maybe I should keep 'em on?  8)

Yeah, I went down the seemingly endless rabbit hole of skate set-up youtubes this week and saw both of those. Foy mentions shieldless bearings voids dirt in his vid. Read about the sound preference, the loose feel of wheels, etc. The guys in my shop said most of the time the shields fall off anyway. I probably won't hassle it.

Nb: *Not* trying to drum up the tired shields vs. non thing here either as I've lurked this board for some time now and know the topic's been beat to death ad nauseum.

Something completely different for me. Smaller board, longer wheelbase, smaller wheels, ventures and I’m loving it. Nice change of pace from the shorter, wider boards im used to.

Magenta team 8.25; hadn't skated a team board in a while but it seems to hold up just as good as the pro boards.
129 mm Indy trucks I'm stuck on till I can get to a good shop to cope new 139 mm's (hometown shop is cancerous).
54 mm Magenta wheels, their early models used to be too narrow for me but now those are perfect, 101A.
Bones Super Swiss Six bearings, brand new, also had brand new ones in my former wheels I couldn't get out because the axle got bent out of shape so much I couldn't even free the wheels from the truck, let alone the bearings. Really wanted to reuse them instead of setting up new ones, I guess I'll need the right tools to recover them. I really like those bearings but they're supposed to cost an arm and a leg so I don't want to waste some.
Old Film Trucks bushings that are cracked to shit and definitely need a replacement soon (but I'm lazy and the looseness is fun). Need to replace the hardware too I guess as it's starting to come loose.

Shoes I'm skating these days are the State x Magenta Albany in the 'desert' colorway and out of all three it's probably my favorite looking one.

Got tired of sucking more than usual with this Welcome Big Bunyip board, never felt comfortable with such a tiny nose as square tail so I'm back to and "old" one that I love.

that is less of a cruiser than my regular setup.
sounds perfect to me!
good and versatile. (personally i'd go with 56 f4 fulls and 1/8" risers)

enjoy and welcome back!
your story sounds very similar to mine

I normally leave the shields on until a couple get bent or damaged or come off when wiping them off (i dont clean my bearings), then I'll take em off for the final bit of life.  disregarding all the actual science/engineering behind shields, i've found keeping them on as long as I can will give a set of Swiss at least a 1yr - 1.5yr lifespan... where after I take them off, the bearings only last a couple months before slowing down considerably/seizing up.

aesthetically, I do think taking them off looks cooler

Have you been sitting on this deck for a long time? I skated this board a little over 3 years ago.
