I ordered one last night. Is DOA the only co. using the South Central mellow concave?
[close]

As far as I know. Every other SC board I've skated has the steepish standard concave.

Politic has some SC flat decks out there. I saw some floating around a shops online store last week (or maybe right on the Politic site?) But yeah they’re out there. I gotta start skating some other brands that use SC, I’m starting to look like a kook that’s pretending to be DOA flow.

Oh yeah! I forgot Politic did that graphic in a flat concave recently. That rules.

I would actually love to get a flat politic. They were always too steep for my liking

DOA Flat 8.0
Venture Lo 5.2
Spitfire F4 Classics 52mm
Bones Swiss
Shorty's Silverado's
Jessup

2 sessions in starting to figure it out.
[close]

This is nice looking, I have a couple flat 8.5"s on the way. I tried to do venture lows with an 8.25" DOA flat and it didn't play nice, but I know thats how I liked them in the day so who knows. Currently skating an 8.5" flat with Ace 44s and loving it.

Exactly how flat are DOA boards? Like, zero concave? Never seen one before.  :o
[close]

It's really flat but not zero concave. The middle of the deck has slight concave but over the trucks it's almost completely flat and there is a lot of space between the bolts and the kicks. The kicks are really mellow too with the nose being the slightest bit steeper.
[close]

What exactly is the appeal? Just a mellow ride? I've gotten so used to a steeper concave it's tough to imagine anything else.
[close]

Quicker, easier pop.  Helpful for those with frail old-man legs.
[close]

Having a nose and tail with more flat gives me more control, too. Also a flat overall concave feels better on my feet.
Does anyone else think that Venture lows look better than the highs? Venture highs look like weird triangles and the lows look a bit more sleek.

Correct, Venture lows are the best Ventures. I have multiple sets that sit in my home, waiting for the day when something clicks in my brain and I can skate them as I did for so many years.

8.25 DOA Chambers standard shape
Theeve 5.5 Ti-Hanger
Jivaro 53mm conicals
Modus 7 bearings
Black Magic grip

Haven't skated a standard shape DOA for quite a while and I liked it but wasn't completely into it last time (tail was a little steep for my liking) so I'm interested to see if how I find it this time around. Also snagged a couple other decks and an awesome longsleeve. DOA seems to always have cool shit and this spring line is no exception.
[close]

I see you're back on theeves. Just for this deck or are you not feeling the Film trucks anymore?
[close]

I have the films on my WKND deck and it's a great pairing so I didn't want to move them. I actually didn't really like how this setup felt on theeves so I already took them off. Gonna try something lower (probably mini logo, or forged thunders) and see if that feels more comfortable for me.
[close]

How is the Mini Logo stuff? I was going to give one of their decks a try, they advertise a pretty mellow concave. ✌️
[close]

im skating a minilogo deck right now and im going to set up a new one soon, theyre pretty good, not the best wood but for that price its worth it, and yeah theyre pretty mellow, i like the shape enough to keep skating it even though id like a longer nose

Thanks! I was thinking for $25 a pop I can’t go wrong.

I learned to skate almost entirely on venture lows and recently tried them out again hoping it would unlock some sort of dormant muscle memory, putting me instantly into Super Saiyan mode.

It didn’t.   :-\

One of these days. I am hoping it will happen for me before 40. I actually took them out after my initial post and looked at them for a few minutes, much I looked at my action figures as an overweight preadolescent, hoping to absorb some of their powers.

Wanted a popsicle for my 55s, this thing had one of the smallest wheelbases I could find, and I’ve been loving the workshop shapes and wood lately. This thing absolutely dwarfs the 9.0” T.U. it retired.

55s stock bushings
56mm conical full f4s
1/4 inch flip risers
I think 1.25” shorty silverados

Swapped out Thunder 148 Titaniums to Tensor Maglight ATG and from Bones V1 to Fakie (local board company) 52mm 101a wheels with a flat-ish profile. Very similar pop but the grind and slide are great. Pinch is so-so but I attribute this more to new bushings and hangers.

Ventures still get my vote for best trucks.
Venture Truck Height:

5.0 & 5.2 LO
STANDARD - 1.88” - 47.75mm
FORGED - 1.85”- 46.99mm

5.0 ,5.2, 5.6, 5.8 & 6.1 HI
STANDARD - 2.09” - 53.09mm
FORGED - 2.04” - 51.82m

howd you like the transportation unit wood? Been looking at some of their bigger shape like the 8.8”. That 9” does look small, like more of a cruiser. Nice set up.  Interesting you were looking for a small wheelbase w the aces.

I like ps stix shaped boards a lot and had my 55s on a welcome before that, this T.U. board has very mellow concave. They're not super stiff in typical ps fashion - but I kind like them not too stiff for my slappy/mellow transition setups

Very nice. Let me know how you like that. I am super interested in those dimensions.

Finally broke this one in. Felt small, measured it, is smaller than my other BBS 8.25s which is a massive bummer. Guess we can’t trust the stickers anymore. In a way though it might be a blessing in disguise because I’ve been wanting to size down for a while now, and this actually is pretty comfy.

Stuck rails on this for slappies, getting kind of sick of having two boards for different things (other is a 10” Madness). Put Aces and Conical Fulls on as well, I just can’t go back to indy.

Width. It’s 8.25 max. Haven’t checked the other measurements to be honest but feels 32 x 14.25wb

Thanks for the update. Bummer about the dimensions being of. I haven’t had that problem yet with BBS. The last couple decks I’ve had have been the AH 8.28 31.7 14.12WB. Would be interested in an 8.38 eagle if it didn’t have a 14.5WB. Was thinking the deck you have would be my next purchase. Not really excited about grimple graphics but like the AH shapes so much I am afraid to branch out at this point.

My most recent AH (brown bomber) was stickered at 32" long, but actually measures at 31.75". I am wondering if its place in the mold (I-IV) has something to do with it. This one is a II.

Those numerals are not in reference to it's place in the mold, but the mold itself. The numbers distinguish the steepness/concavity from my understanding. But, the place in the stack does affect the measurements and I believe that's what is happening in this example.

Sorry, but you're wrong on that one. It's been confirmed by DLX that the numerals represent where in the stack of boards in the press each deck is.

Right, I think "I" is on the bottom (mellower) and "V" the top (steeper)?

edit: nah its the opposite.

backwards.

"I" is on the top (steeper) and "V" the bottom (mellower).

I have two of the same deck - one is I and one is IV.  The difference is marginal.   After skating both, I now no longer care where on the stack it came from.  It's just not enough of a difference for me to pay attention to.
