Finally going back down to my normal size after skating 9"+ decks for a handful of months

Hockey Andrew Allen Shotgun 8.25" x 31.79" with 14.12" WB

Venture 5.6

Spitfire F4 99a Tablets worn down to 53-52mm (they won't die, cmon I want new wheels)

Jessup (usually skate MOB but I already had Jessup on hand from a previous purchase)

1" Thunder Phillips hardware

Bones Swiss

I couldn't decide on stickers cause I don't have any good ones that fit this graphic  :(
[close]

How do you like the Ventures on that board? I'm riding a Fucking Awesome deck with the exact same measurements and I'm seriously considering getting a pair of 5.6s (apparently they work great with a short wb)

This is my first time trying Ventures, and so far I'm not sure how I feel.

They feel like a much lighter Indy that's closer to the ground, but I don't feel the explosive pop that Venture is supposed to have.

They definitely have a much harder grind against curbs, but I found I actually really like this type of grind. Sometimes my Indys and Aces felt like they would grind too well and just glide over the curb.

Turning is fine, but if you ride them loose they do max out at a certain point.

Of course, this is only one day with them so I still need to get used to them and gain an actual opinion over the next few weeks.

I posted the setup on the left awhile ago, everything was new. I finished skating the deck today and gave it to a homeless kid who hangs out at the park and was riding some awful toy store deck with normal trucks and wheels. Also gave him some nuts and bolts. He was stoked on a real deck, and I was happy for him - he can be pretty good at skating.

That one was 8 x 31.5 x 14" and felt like I was standing on a totally flat deck at first, but I got used to it. I loved the dimensions and I'm pretty sure it helped me relearn some flip tricks. And honestly, even though I was skeptical of Chocolate wood, it felt really solid and sturdy the whole time I skated it. In the future I'll seek out more boards with the exact same dims.

The new board is another Chocolate, City series and another Yonnie Cruz, bought from a local shop. Little bigger, 8,125 x 31.625, but still with a 14" wheelbase. It also doesn't feel as flat. I set it up and skated it today, feels great. I'm still skating the Aces, Spitfire F4 conical fulls, Bones Swiss 6, and Bones 1/8 baseplates. Haven't had any issues with anything, the Aces are butter and I'm better at b/s slappies than I've ever been.

I'm curious to see if the slightly bigger dims will help with noseslides and tailslides. Going to try some other brands after this board, next one is a Habitat.

DOA 📟 8.38, 14.25 WB
Thunder 149 w/ 100a bushings
NFG 54mm Square Shape
Bones Big Balls
Krooked 1/8” risers
Shorty’s hardware
Jessup

Been riding 8.75” - 9.12” but sub 14.75” WB in those sizes has been tough to find at my shop and I thought I’d try something a little smaller, especially given how much dap DOA gets around here. It’s been an adjustment but I really like the wood and the shape. The fuller, squared nose and tail definitely make the board feel a bit bigger. Also, having to be a bit lighter on my feet when popping the smaller, lighter setup actually improved my pop on the bigger setups.

Anyone riding Ace 44s on one of these? I’m in love with my 55s on an 8.6 w/ 14.75 WB but worried axle to axle will be so short on the DOA that it’ll feel too light and unstable.
I only skate prime numbers, so it's either 53s or 59s, feast or famine

I was running 44s on an 8.25" DOA (14.25" WB) and loved it so much that I skated it until it was a gross, chipped up mess.

I've had a few times when I've been hesitant to put Aces on a board because of the shorter WB, and every time I've put them on I've just been super into it. I can't speak for thunders but coming from Indy or Venture I always feel so much more comfortable on the 44s.

Appreciate that, thank you. I'm trying to get in the habit of leaving old decks in my trunk so I can help out. It's a shame to see kids try to skate on garbage boards.

I ran a few of those 8.1 chocolates and it’s a really good shape. Had two habitats last year and I liked both as well

Setup does look dope.
I get less wheelbite from classics, than fulls. For me, wheelbite also really includes the deck width to truck width. Rn I’m on 8 with 44s, with 53 fulls, and that is giving me more wheelbite than 8.25 with 44s and 56 fulls. Maybe it’s just me being a weirdo tho

Deck: Creature Talisman Coldpress 8.5  (14.5 wb)
Trucks : Tensor Maglights ATG 5.75 (HC bushings)
Bearings : Indy Black
Wheels : Easy streets 53mm v1
Hardware: Shake Junt allen
Grip: Jessup Ultra

I love these coldpress decks. Nice double tail full shape, mellow concave, moderate nose/tail steepness. That being said, I hate the graphics and the first session will always consist of boardslides.

This is my second coldpress creature deck (had 8.38 soul servant) and as much as I expected it to be a gimmick, these feel super nice and stiff and have a great feel unlike the typical dwindle but unfortantuley they are not being made any more.

Agreed. I spoke with the chat people on the NHS site and they grabbed a person who knew about the cold press decks that let me know there is nothing currently using those construction out, but they did just release lots of new boards that are wide with shorter wheelbases. He was also skating "the green bottom yellow tops coldpress" which I guess is what they referr to them as. Im sure someone may know more but the staff was responsive and confirmed these were still dwindle and reccomended the closest thing to the shape (new winkowski).

But this Talisman shape is perfect for me so I may grab another just in case.

Great decks and I think you have 3 options and can find them at tactics and on ebay
