I had initially picked up some AF1 55s that I was planning to skate with this deck but when I threw them on my last setup I was pretty disappointed. To me they felt like Ace made an Indy with a better, more Ace-like turn and a worse, more sticky grind.  Even the way they broke in (in terms of looseness) felt more like an Indy than the Aces I have now.  The front pivot cup also started blowing out during the first session too. Sticking with the 55 classics for now which for some reason I keep coming back to...

Same deal. Treated myself to riptides in my 55 classics and I have little interest in skating anything else. Recently revisited my AF1s and 159s and they just did not feel nearly as good.

I’m probably going to throw some riptides in the AF1s at some point in the near future and see if that changes my opinion.  I know for some people the pivot cup issue was actually a baseplate issue so I’ll have to investigate that further first.  Either way I need to give them another chance eventually - probably still a great truck but they don’t seem to live up to the hype Ace created

As one of the few (?) with the b-plate issue ripping the cups, that issue aside and having moved off them to other trucks...man, that turn is still there...and I miss it. In the ACE thread I noted how easy it was to to skate them, no adjustment as they felt like tried and true ACE to me...no worries about WB or grind.

Honestly, their cups might work out long term, but there is something different about them for sure compared to hard AF stock thunder/venture cups, and the newer indy cups/riptides. I don't think Riptides, in this case, would be an improvement but just more of the same.

Also, fuck they are heavy.

They are heavy. I tried to like them. But I had a hard time having fun skating them, and That’s the point, right?

@big_kev_215 be mindful that (according to discussion in the Ace thread) the current riptides don't fit the AF1s properly. Kind of annoying.

I made the mistake of impulse buying 77s to try the AF1s out, so who knows when I'll spend time with them again (should have gotten 55s or 66s but I was dazzled by the new size). Current set of 55 classics is grooved and nice, and I have a new set on ice. Not to derail things.

Zmorgf prototype 10.125" x 31.38" with 13.8" - 14.38" WB (Despite me measuring out a 14-14.5" wb before drilling. Doing the bolt holes is one of the worst things ever.)

Dogtown K-9 60mm 97a 80's Single Conical Wheels (worn down to 58mm)

Thunder 161 Hollow Lights

Bones Swiss

Bones 1/8" riser pads

Bones 1" hardware

I might swap the wheels and add rails later, but I'm happy for now.

Just built this up, wanted a wider setup to cruise about on and session the basics while my ankle heals. Rather liking the textured "wallpaper" in the graphic.

Hockey 8.5"
Thunder 149 Hollow lights
Boardycakes fat bundt 44mm
generic bearings, either mini logo or cheap shots, i forget.

I had that same graphic and loved it. Looks great when it starts to get beat up; the scrapes really make the texture layer pop.

I keep imagining them as being too small but the AF1 55s look so good. I love the 8.5" Hockey shape, too.

Yeah, they fit great. One washer on inside and one on outside. These wheels are pretty wide though.

9 day set up update. Probably will do another update right before I switch it out or it breaks. Boards feeling good. I am feeling longer wheelbases again for some reason (14.5).

Not too bad overall- not a great slide on them compared to F4 99s, but they're stable and run surprisingly well in the street considering they are so small.

Only down side is you're obviously pushing more and rolling away from tricks a bit slower, but well worth having a set in your skate box to try out.

I wouldn't have them as my only wheel but they're fun for flatground and just dicking around.

Some friends from California sent me this shop deck from Long Beach Skate Co. I really like the shape so far, the nose and tail are both a little longer than the Politic and Quasi shapes i've been skating. Also, I just decided to try some Ace trucks which I just finished setting up.
