Okay so, I wanted to give the HLC wood a chance.
The specs were right up my alley, this is a Cafe deck.

8.125 × 31.75 with a 14.25 wb

Coming of a tweaked ankle, I was just on curbs and flat today. First session after 5 weeks and I had a blast for 2 hours and then..

I landed a heelflip with a bit too much weight on my back foot. I was truly shocked. A broken deck after just 2 hours is even for me really fast.

I will give this deck to my parents so they have firewood for the winter.

That’s a bummer - I have a Cafe (same size) lined up next, like you wanted to try out HLC.  Even if they are a little cheaper it doesn’t make sense if they crap themselves so quick.

Uma "Toenail" shape was a lot of fun, but it's back to regular popsicle for now.

Quasi World 1 - 8.375 (14.25wb)
Thunder Hollow Lights 149
F4 Tablets 53
Bronson G3's (still going strong, forget how long I've had them but no complaints)
Jessup

Emerica Wino slips, fav slip on to date.

Sour 8.18x31.92x14.2WB
Tensor 5.5s bones softs and wheelbite city
52mm Bones V5 99a
Bronson ceramics
7/8" allen bolts
tactics grips (quite good actually)
Bruin React

Few sessions in and I don't like the board...just a weird shape, long thin, tapered and pointy tail and nose...tho I get great tailslides on it.

I think I just had bad luck or my 170 lbs are too much. But the shape and the pop were really good for the 2 hours it lasted.

i swear this is a new FA/Hockey shape or concave. its not an 8.44 but its definitely different, and I love it.

Hockey Kevin Rodrigues "Jeanne" - 8.5 x 31.9 (14.25 WB)
Thunder 149
Spitfire F4 Conical Full 53mm (more like 51 now)

What a beauty. It reminds me of this AA photo:

Uma Maite 8.7 x 14.25
Ace 55 classic ( just fit )
F4 99 53 conical
Rib bones
RAD magazine sticker ( love that I can still run these on my boards 30 years later )
Threadfin sticker ( friends clothing brand )

I’m kinda a surfer that skates nowadays. Hard to underestimate how much Thomas Campbell’s First couple of surf films influenced my life choices. Stoked I can skate deck from him too.

Nice one. I'm thinking of picking up an 8.0 Evan Smith board with the Richard Colman art. How's the feel of that Uma? Any idea what woodshop they're using?

Isn't Sour also HLC? I've been skating mine for solid two and half months (1-3 times a week) and it still have some life left. I even put a new griptape on it after a month.

In Europe Sour is definitely HLC. Don't know if they use the same woodshop everywhere else.

Luck of the draw then I guess.  Looking forward to skating it.  6 weeks in on a Northen Co. which is holding up well.

New one

917 8.18 × 31.75 / 14.25 wb
139 Hollow Forged
Spit Classics 54mm, now 52mm (and perfect)
Modus Abec 7
Indy Bolts
Jessup

917 is now BBS and this feels perfect so far. And it feels more stiff and crunchy as the Anti Hero I had earlier this year.

AD Blank 8.38 31.88 14
Ace 44 flat top washer
Loophole 54 V’s
Reds
Allens
Jessup

Going to be using these for the next run of Fortress Skateboards.
First session-ledges, flat, a bank, and a small set of stairs
First impression-nice full shape, but not square. Concave and kicks on the mellower side of steep. Nice stains and routing. Stiff with a little give. Good pop and flip. One sesh in and I’m hyped.

The P2 was a very handsome shape and I loved the ultra square nose, but I think I'm just not a mellow concave/kicks guy. Decided to try the quasi proto shape again before I give up and just ride hockey decks forever.

9" at front bolts, 8.8"ish at rear.
169 Indys
56 Ricta Chrome Clouds 92a
Santa Cruz Rails

I have some harder 56s I might throw on because I want to get more comfortable sliding, pivoting, reverting. (Smallbeating 83b, which is like 103a??) But I really only cruise and these wheels are nice for that. As you may notice, my "tricks" have come down to riding without falling, and nose stalls on curbs

I love seeing AHTBM decks on here. Stevil is the absolute best sort of human.

Beautiful.  I really enjoyed the 917 deck I skated for the past month. The wood quality felt good. The shape was more tapered than I was expecting but very functional.  I’d buy another one if any shops around me carried them but I don’t think they do.
