Sour Solution 8.25 x 31.88 14.2wb s1
Old thunder 149s
Old 54mm Spitfire Lance Mountain F1 streetburners
Bones Swiss that have been rusted out and rebuilt twice
Jessup

Got gifted a really cool set of trucks so I set this up to try them out. They've got the made in the USA stamp and 6 hole plates, any thundie boi historians out there that can ID/date them? They're in basically new shape so I'm assuming the bushings and hardware are original. Gonna run to McDonald's for breakfast in a minute and see how they do.

Anti hero 8.75 with 14.25 wheelbase 31.75 length - this board is kinda insane. The nose and tails feel like little stubs. Its good if you like wider boards but still like doing flip tricks. This is perfect for that.

OK, I was in a hurry and I forgot to take a pic, but I just found an oooooold setup of mine from when I was a kid and its HILARIOUS. This is like a meme or something. I could see Gifted Hater building and skating this as a joke.

Deck: 7.5" CCS - Blank (Black)
Trucks: Phantom II Trucks - Black (oh yeah baby)
Risers: It looked like a double stack with a soft pad/hard riser combo? It had some sort of spooky/edgy words on it, so maybe it was Phantom branded. For some reason I recall them being built into the truck (see: glued on to it as factory default)... but I can't find any evidence of that online.
Wheels: 40mm(?) CCS - generic blank Black wheels... like barely bigger than the bearings.

...and of course the logical allocation of budget went to

Bearings: Bones Swiss

Gotta love how kids think. Get some awful deck and wheels, so you can get some sick bearings. And then my dumbass at the time didn't even know you could take bearings out of wheels, so they only got used until that board was unusable. Which actually was a decent amount of time since as a kid, gotta make things last as long as possible. That meant until the tail razor tailed... then I would use the board the other way until the nose razor tailed.

I remember I would always ride really tight trucks and tic-tac instead of lean (probably from always skating such awful trucks that couldn't turn anyways).

I was in a hurry but I took the wheels and bearings off the board so I could salvage the Bones Swiss (it looked like they still rolled well despite sitting in a basement for so long). I will have to take a picture of these wheels before I take the bearings out. They are so small, I don't know how these things could even roll over sidewalk cracks.

I'm not sure what's the funniest part. The phantom trucks? The small wheel size + tall riser combo? The budget build with Bones Swiss (its like a sleeper car as they call it in street racing LOL)?

I will say though, the aesthetic was ON POINT. Black on black on black on black with some red and black hardware. Good job little me.

Interesting you say that about the kicks, because I was thinking those dimensions were pretty short and in bigger (wider) boards I usually anticipate longer kicks as well as longer wheelbase and overall length, or I go more for longer boards, eg when I skated the black eagle, 8.12 x 32 with 14.25 wb, the kicks were excellent on that.

The 8.5 with 14.0 wb in that same series is the same length, so I would have thought that board should have been 32 for comparison with the 14.25 wb.

I also wonder if the bigger wheels make it feel more stubby too, but on Ace trucks, they should sit in that tiny bit more.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

Man this exact board is the next one I’m setting up. Now you got me paranoid haha. I’m not a huge fan of super short tails. Im in the middle of a love affair with 8.75 with 14.25 or less wheelbases. The creature stumps has been my favorite. Gonna start looking for the AWS 8.75 I think they are 32+ with a 14.25 wb. Which I think is gonna be the one I stick with. But idk. I’m rambling.

Sorry I've been sleeping on the thread but I gotta say I love this setup!!
I'm straight up addicted to the Couch shape, have had 4 in a row now...my only complaint is that they need more graphics available but we'll done on this setup!

I was dreading this day but it had to come eventually and it was time to rip the bandaid off.  After seven lovely months on my 169s it’s about time to start breaking in a new set of trucks.

Zumiez order?

I've gotten the wrong stuff from zumiez before and offered to take it back to the store, and they've just be like, nah keep it. One time I told them that my order hand been clearly opened gone thru and lazily repackaged, which wasn't their fault, but I thought they'd have have a line to complain to UPS cause all my shit was being opened at the time. They apologized and resent the same order.

Same old shit: Indy 144, 54 Classic Fulls now 53, Quantum Atoms, Pepper Grip that has glitter in it. Oh the deck is Sci Fi Fantasy 8.38. Unfortunately this one is on the steeper side which is a bummer for my flip tricks so far.

Nah, I forget the shop name now but it was a smaller place.  She was after a different Nora deck so the mix up is easy to understand.  Apparently they just said "ah shit sorry, we'll ship out a new one, keep both".

Good. It's snappy and durable. I like the HLC molds a lot although I waffle a bit on the "epoxy vs glue" thing (both have pros and cons). Honestly if the sour s1 was like 31.5ish length I'd probably skate these all the time.

Also whoever posted about the phantom 2 risers... They were foam and glued on to the baseplate. I soaked mine in lighter fluid and burned them off and my board stunk for months when I was a kid. There's a skull cutout in the foam as well IIRC.

I'm not usually too psyched on Welcome boards but that Nora graphic with the gold perimeter around the glossy black is lovely.

Rad setup. I had the previous graphic on that big popsicle shape and it became my favorite board by far. Broke it a couple months ago and haven’t been able to find the shape anymore. Where’d you score that one? Also, does it have razor-edge? Or just regular sanded and rounded edges? Thanks buddy!

Thanks guys, Yeah it has razor-edge. TBH i took it out yesterday and didn't really notice it too much, but the board felt great overall. It was crazy having something this wide but not super long.
I got this one at POPs in everett, wa.  Havent seen it anywhere online though since i picked it up

These brought up a memory of my childhood of my friend who was more of a gamer but had these set up on a purple bam board. He was the only one of our skate group who wasn't really doing 5050 on curbs yet but could roll on from a curb cut and grind the unwaxed curb in front of his house. He ended up being the first one I've ever witnessed reach axle on his trucks. I now think about how I will always relate axled trucks and roll on grinds to phantoms and how jacked that is.

Summer of 2001 I had phantom trucks, but they were maybe phantom 1s because the emblem on them was round. The shop in Madison had a connection with syndrome for their blank decks that they screened for the shop and I think phantom was out of there as well.

I skated a ton of status boards back then, they were like $35 each

I still have one of the syndrome blanks, 7.5 just under 14” wheelbase and 31” long.
