Probably a regional (I’m east coast, the south to be specific) or demographics thing but it blows my mind how many of y’all are skating venture and thunders. A solid 95% of people I see irl are skating Indy’s with the odd ace thrown in.

I skated ventures for years but have been on ace af-1 lows for a bit now, for reference.
[close]

i’ve heard only good things about the ace lows. the af-1s that i have (regular height 44s), look high quality. i just cannot pop for shit with them. and then like a dumbass i took the stick pivot cups out and tried to put some weird indy plastic pivot cups in and now the trucks are stupid loose with too much pivot play. but they look well made. and jacopo makes em look the sickest.
indy’s i see on everybody that doesn’t care: young and old, new to the game, or just back in it after a 20 year layoff.
most folks i see with either venture or ace. lots of ace.
[close]

AF-1 lows are great. I ordered AF-1 55s and they came and had a hollow kingpin and axle so I thought “dang, af1 hollows - bank error in my favor!”. I just recently realized they’re actually lows, not the standard height hollows.

I love them, BUT I could not for the life of me break in the bushings to let me loosen them enough. In retrospect that makes sense if they’re lows hahah. So I skate them with smaller bushings that I think came from some krux k5s or something like that? And it’s perfect. My pop on an 8.25/14.25 wb deck feels great with them.

The AF1 lows, to the best of my knowledge, only come with a hollow kingpin and regular axle. Sounds like you might have actually gotten the standard height AF1 hollows.

Why does it blow your mind? They're great trucks and it probably just has to do with what is "standard" or "normal". Tons of people ride Indy just because "they're the best" and the buy into the marketing and tradition, but never try other things to see what might work best for them. There are plenty of pros from the SE that don't skate Indys.

It doesn’t blow my mind that anyone would ride them. You’re misreading my post. I love Ventures.

It blows my mind how MANY people in this thread skate them because it’s virtually unheard of where I live. Hence the part about most people skating Indy’s. But in this thread ventures and thunders are way overrepresented. Purely an observation not a value judgment.

Fred Gall Alien Workshop 8.25 x 31.82” 14.13” wb
Thunder 148 lights
Spitfire F4 99 classic started as 52mm
Bronson G3
Jessup ultra
Shortys 1” allen

Looks sick.  I would skate it with half cabs for 90s Freddy vibes

youth skateboards x ashes griptape 8.625 "pool shape" that i cut
8.625 over the front bolts
8.4 over the back bolts
6.85 pointy ass nose (was square and 7.25 or so)
6.7 tail
14.2 wheelbase
31.75 overall length
i call it "the rocket" but the flip tricks are level  8)

venture 5.8s w/ supercush 90s and flat top washers
spitfire f4 radial 57.5 99a worn down to about 53-54mm
skf skate bearings
jessup
pig bolts

og cons one stars with the lunarlon

here’s a top pic if anyone’s interested in the shape. i cut this shape before, but this time i made the nose pointier, the one before i made it fuller, but still round. it's not perfect but it works, i've nollie flipped it already. the original shape is by hlc and it's available through a few different brands.

The bottom of the AF-1 Low baseplate has “LOW” cast into the cavity underneath. That’s the easy way to tell what you got.

Wanted to refresh my cruiser set up with just the bushings but realized I wasn't crazy about the Crail shape (Burly - punk nose tip one) i had. That long fingers of flat + steep tail thing + lack of concave at kicks (BBS usually has this and I love it) was fucking odd on Indys.

Naturally, I bought a new deck/grip and gave myself an excuse to use some 159s I bought last year instead of using the 149s I had since the 159s seem to fit better. Minor hotrodding in back but not terrible.

Real Guerrero R1 9.25" (forgot the other specs - lost the dims sticker)
Indy Standard 159 (conical aftermarket bushings)
Mob Grip (graphic & reg)
Indy bolts
OJ Mini Juice 53mm? (Had them since 2016 or 2017)
Bones Reds

Old cruiser:

[close]

How they held up so well? I wrecked a set in a month just cruising. They seem more like Keyframes than minijuices.
[close]

Maybe they are Keyframe? I typed from memory since I've had the wheels for at least 6 years. Either way, I've enjoyed these OJs as they don't feel clunky like big cruiser wheels on long boards but aren't super slim/hard like regular wheels.

They're keyframes. I had a set last year maybe but dont remember liking them very much. They didn't feel very fast to me. I loved mini juices but they didn't last. I use dragons on my cruisers. They absorb plenty of jitter from rougher grounds and let me slide when needed. They're also fast on whatever I skate.
