Anti Hero 9”x33.25” 15” WB
Slappy 9.5” W/ 95a Slappy Bushings
56mm Bones x97 v6
Bones Swiss 6
Indy 7/8s hardware
Pepper grip

Trying some different things on this setup, first time with Slappys and straying from the usual formula 4 to try out some x formula wheels again.

I like my trucks wider than my deck but I think I may have gone too far here. Gonna try and skate it for a bit longer but I could see myself putting some 169s on it.

Didn’t last long with the Slappys or X formula bones. Back to 169 Indys and 56mm Conical Fulls. This combo works well for me and I shouldn’t have tried straying from the formula but the madness got me.

The Slappys are now on my Baby Beamer with 56mm Nano Rats, should be a fun skateable cruiser.

[close]

For me up to 1/2 inch wider is fine. After all it is just 6mm overhanging which is basically only the nut.
Though I prefer them to be 1/4 inch wider or flush.

If you are not on the tall side (15" WB and hard bushings) you could do something like I did to the trucks of this setup:

Antihero Blue Meanie 8.75" 14.75" WB
Venture 6.1 V-Hollow Lights (V8tified, Thunder 100A bushings)
Spitfire 93 Radials 56mm
Independent GP-B Bearings
Santa Cruz Rails
Mob Grip

As for the V8tified part. I just put the baseplates base to base flipped 180° in a vise and used the holes of the upper one as guidance to drill the lower one. Really just gives you perfectly symmetrical additional holes.

should work perfectly fine with slappys as well.

Or you just go be a mega ramp skater... ;D
[close]

Nice! Looks like those DIY V8s brought in the WB quite a bit. Did you measure it?
[close]

I measured 12.5mm offset. Which would come out to ~1/2 inch per truck, double of the original V8. So it takes the base wheelbase of the board from 14.75 to 13.75.
The result will definitely vary between truck models depending on baseplate length and relative hole positioning. I think Ventures should be the max offset you get by my DIY method.

Oh damn that’s wild. How’s the pop feel? Like does bringing in the WB that much make it too “soft”?

I wish I could give you a super confident answer. But after a recent knee injury I a still really hesitant on doing much popping. That was also a reason for getting the 14.75 WB deck in the first place. I expected it to be good for bowl carving and some mild big transition skating during recovery. But it was much to unresponsive for me. First setup was with Ace trucks. So the lacking venture turn wasn't the reason. I usually skate rather short wheelbases 14-14.25 at max. So 13.75 with the venture turn now feels great in the pool.
As for pop the experience is very limited as I said. But from the little I did, it felt much better than before. I can't say that is in anway a conclusive analysis though.

I've been considering Ace hollow hardware. Is that the hollow or regular hardware you have and does it look like it's not seated on top? Looks like it's sticking up over the griptape quite a bit and I wouldn't want to deal with that if it's due to hardware design.

they’re the hollows. they sink in overtime. i try not to crank em on a fresh deck. here’s a photo of em two weeks onto my last setup

I always found the Ace hardware to have wider heads on em. Not sure about the hollows but I think they're the same dims. I was using Indy and Ace hardware for when I had to re-setup an old deck, so the hardware wouldn't sink in too much. On a brand new deck I only use the ones with tiny heads, like Modus or Shorty's. My 2 cents on it

BBS 8.5 short
Pepper g5
Modus 7/8 allen
Indy hollow standard 149
Bones swiss 6, degreased and no caps
Spitfire F4 99a classics, 56mm

Interesting. So are you saying the bolts sink in and "tighten" by themselves after a couple weeks or you manually tighten them after they set in?

Never heard of this technique but it sounds like a good one to help prevent stress to the deck.

Pre-sink the hole before you put the grip tape on.

Thanks! Gonna try that on my next setup but my short term memory might be kicking in because now I feel like I may have done something similar in the past. Maybe subconciously or some other automotion where I did it without ever thinking about it.

Good wheel but I'm already back on Spitfire Formula 4s. I skate mostly park and don't get much of the benefits of the softer wheels. Something about the way formula 4s sound as well, everything else just sounds incorrect to me.

Yeah, I’m a very big dude so I like the confidence of knowing wheelbite is all but non-existant. Plus I can swap the spits for bigger cruiser wheels without tightening my trucks.

i swear swear that in the early 2000s, 2002….ish? i had an orange eagle that was an 8”. i bought it because it was ‘insanely big’ and ridiculous. i had indy’s and 54s and i’d only bring it out when we were all wasted as a ‘look at this fucking thing amirite?’. and then it skated good and me and the rest that skated it would chalk it up it being intoxicated. i was in my mid 20s. i am not super smart.
i dunno. there was like one guy that skated with us that had a big board, 8.25-8.5 ish and his ollie’s were stinking.
i’ve yammered about this before on slap. i want to say that i am getting weirder with age, but i think it’s more predictable. i act exactly how the young people think id behave. kind of a trip

Haven't skated in quite some time due to an injury, but the few sessions I got on them was great. They are kind of comparable to a 99 F4, but a little less grippy. the 101 formula doesn't feel as hard and slippery as a bones/ spit 101 and the urethane feels way higher quality. hope that answers your question.

Second this.

PFCs are scary close to a 99 F4. For those who want to rock with a wheel company that ain’t the big two, you’re not gonna find a better wheel.

Shit, I have a set in shrink that I was saving for a rainy day. Now that I know Cassette has em, I’m gonna have to cop.
