Hey I'm looking to get a set up for my 7 year old son for Christmas but no idea on suitable deck, truck, wheel combo.

I want something decent with a suitably small wheel base for his age.  Will almost be exclusively skatepark usage.  Really keen to get some trucks he will be able to turn with as he only weighs like 25 kg.

Might get flack for this recommendation but Mini Logo products are great for beginners especially the trucks, they don’t take much to turn them at all. Their boards are durable and their bearings are very good out of the box. Haven’t personally tried their wheels so I can’t speak on them but I believe they are made by the same people that make Bones wheels which I know from experience are also great products. Mini Logo products are relatively inexpensive as well, so if the kid doesn’t end up being that into skating, at least you didn’t spend nearly $200 for a top-of-the-line setup.

a 7.5 mini-logo complete is the perfect choice, the price is good, the quality is very fair and it works like a normal skateboard. the smaller sizes use 90a wheels of theirs which are decent but don't really slide so you might have to switch them out if your son gets into tricks and shit, but everything else should be fine for a while

Globe and Tricks(HLC) make short wide completes, like 8.25 29in

Not sure why anyone would give flack for Minilogo. You’ll probably get the best quality for all parts going that route that are all “pro” level. It’s basically just Powell/Bones version of blanks.

But a first setup at that age, I’d say any complete in a smaller size (>=8”) from a real skate brand will be fine. I got my kid a complete Blind when he was around 4-5 and they were still around and he was getting a lot of compliments at the parks and even other kids that were envious, like I remember some kid said, “his board has better wheels than mine!” Haha, kids!

I guess I was expecting the stereotypical slap attitude of “BBS wood and Spitfires or it’s not worth skating at all” obviously that’s an exaggerated generalization but I haven’t seen much pro-Mini Logo talk on here in the past, also there’s the attitude on here of it not being particularly ethical in the current industry climate to buy blanks considering that board companies are dropping like flies these days, I had another bit in there at first saying to that guy to buy core brands from brick-and-mortar skateshops once the kid is hooked, but edited it out because I saw that he’s had his account since 2017 so that was probably some shit he already knew

Despite people bagging on HLC boards the Tricks completes are some of the highest quality kids boards I've seen in person.

Forgot I had this board stashed away. Been a long time since I've ridden a Crail board.

So crispy, love it. Just wish they had spooned kicks...been trying to learn noseslide to crook and it's way harder on flat kicks.

Damn, only got four sessions on this before breaking the nose off. Fat man frontside flip strikes again.

I seriously believe that flexier boards, especially PS Stix, are more resilient.

DSM and Crail boards are so stiff and crispy, they pop amazing, but I've broken them way easier than PS or BBS boards.

Mini logo wheels are great. Made by same as Bones/Powell. I think I read they use same formulas too. Don't quote me on that though.

No worries I'm totally down to answer your questions
1) Yeah it's their square mellow shape. Absolutely love it.
2)I didnt know they had a twin nose. Might have to try them next.
3) Actually I couldn't take the kingpin out of the baseplate so my friend gave me his baseplate set that he already put the inverted kingpin. It's pretty easy there's plenty of videos showing how to swapped them out.

I swear, like, all the South central shop blanks are in Maryland. Is it because of the Baltimore Board Brewery?
I love SC decks so always on the lookout for SC shop blanks.

Vu uses them because of previous affiliation with that woodshop when pro, also a lot of staple east coast brands use SC wood. 
Last time I checked in person, Kinetic/Nocturnal decks were also SC wood...
Baltimore Board Brewery uses SC wood so naturally they are gonna be out in large numbers in MD... however, not sure if they will even sell blank decks... but with no minimums on orders, some peeps go that route and just get their own graphic printed.
This particular blank is from SC via AWH Sales, these are their "price point" blanks... popsicle, egg and twin shapes.  Just had LWSS order me a few the last time they restocked.
