Abec does not measure speed performance, it is a measure of how much friction a material can take before it begins to degrade.

ORLY? no sarcasm here, i actually didn't know that.

knowing the above, why are people are always saying swiss bearings are faster?
when in fact in seems speed has nothing to do with the bearings, instead the size of the wheel?

Swisses are smooth as hell, but my reds with no shields are way faster, I have a set of each.
Faster! I was agreeing with you that in circumstances like bombing hills bigger wheels are better. But for all around skating I likes me some 50's

because swiss have the least friction out of all of them and don't deteriorate?

I don't know.

I just realized I've had this exact setup for over two years, although I had a Stereo for a couple of months and then switched back to the Toy. I guess I don't skate nearly enough or something. I've had this for so long (as you can tell by my 8 year old face).

I will agree here that bombing hills on 50's is not all that fun, but my point was more along the lines of, if I roll in, carve a corner and then tear through a long grind, I dont think 60mm's are gonna help dude that do the all to familiar, drop in rock to fakie, tailstall, axle stall, feeble, then pop out.
If I know what I'm doingit doesnt really matter that the wheels are small. Also when was the last time you saw someone say nollie nosegrinding a ledge over 18 inches on 58's?

now you are stereotyping.  here is fred gall......... in this video he's skating a 8" x 33" with 60mm wheels, wile everyone else is riding 7.5s with bearing covers and he still shreds everything to death.

My best friend is mostly a street skater, though he will skate tranny as well and he rides 56-58mm wheels and skates big gaps, ledges, banks etc. I have seen him ollie a waist high chain from flat with 60mm wheels and a 8" board (he has small feet so he rides smaller boards).

these are all the pics from this guys entire photo album. Would it kill him to actually *step* on a skateboard? Oh wait, it probably would.

Big wheels are faster without a doubt. Although i think it may have something to do with the fact with most bigger wheels are softer than smaller ones.

Nope.
Bones, spitfire, autobahn, hubba, satori, jivaro and many other makes big hard wheels for skating larger parks.

I actually like riding big 100d wheels on a slick skatepark now, Kinda slippery but very fun. Then again 54mm is not that big.

asdklj I'm wearing the same shirt right now, except it's a lot tighter and faded. My trucks are pretty worn down, but everything still works really well. I don't know if I could bring myself to buy a new board.

Do you actually pay attention to people's wheel size, and then watch what tricks they do?

I used to skate Anti-hero 8", rowley 139s, 54mm spitfire mj's
Now im skating think 7.6", koston 129s (very loose, they're old), spitfire 100d 52s  - seems like skating is a lot more easier now...
