I was thinking the same thing, Cephas always talked about getting hooked up with Nike's over the years. I really wonder if these Nike rumor's are true.

It was a breath of fresh air to openly hear a pro disparage Nike over and over again. Tommy Gunz is the real deal and it seems he would rather be poor than to over go the corporate route.

But then again, being real gets you riding for Krux, so who's really the winner here?

seems kinda crazy for him to say that nike sb is going under like that on a well known podcast. there has to at least be some weight to it if he’s confident enough in saying it knowing a lot of people in the industry will most likely hear it or hear about it. also seems a bit unlikely with how many people skate their shoes, if anything maybe just a big team cut? was the only mention of this in his rapid fire (i skimmed through)

I'd guess 'going under' in this case means not turning enough of a giant profit to Nike's taste and therefore getting cut by their C-suite. Skaters in swooshes everywhere, as you said. But I may well be wrong.

He made it sound like team cuts and limiting the shops that can carry it. What big names are no longer on Nike? It would seem crazy for the biggest sporting goods brand to pull out of a sport they dominate right before it’s debut at the biggest global sports event in the world.

They could be switching their strategy on how many people they support. Team page alone has 50 skaters and they pay a ton of other skaters too. They could just focus on 5-10 big names and kick the rest of. Easier to manage and probably wouldn't make much difference on their sales

That's exactly what they are doing.

Along with pulling out of skate shops and selling direct.

Skateboarding would have to be the most 'fun' and 'cool' looking event at the Olympics to an outsider and young kids. Think of all the new potential shoe sales, and if you see that swoosh on an Olympic skaters feet, you know exactly who makes the shoes. So a few more sales for Nike, and then a lot more sales when all these new skate kids going through a few pairs a year.

Surely they are just cutting deadwood. Or making room on the team for all these 'post olympic' rippers about to come on the scene
Is it true?  Or did you read it on the slap message board?

Might re-visit some of Tommy Gunz parts, that instagram teaser clip had all bangers and you'd forget how great that guy was for so long. I haven't even really thought about him in the longest, but looking forwrd to this.

What's the story behind your sig pic?

Ah I wish I could tell you, pal. Just Megan Baltimore lending Gonz some money back in the day for an extortionate amount of interest, that she later claimed she didn't take back (the interest).

Different industry but they basically dropped all of their trail runners last year. I wouldn't be surprised if they cut most of the team and only kept their long term contract guys.

I don't think he understands what a bunt is. Sounds like his kid anti bunted and got served due to his commitment. T gunz reminds me of encino man but chulavista man (modern day cave man).

Two big LOLs on the unreleased episodes discussion.

-Yaje too stoned to finish the interview.
-Raymond Molinar's skate career history just seems to be his life history.
We need Malto to release the pic of Biebel drunk in an elevator with his wiener hanging out.

That was a great discussion of the life of a journeyman level Canadian pro in the 2000s. Good on him for living it up and then making that transition into the real world.

The trail program was nothing like SB. It's basically always been ambassadors and 'elite' ambassadors. They cycled people out and in over the last few years like they always do, and still have a trail team. The Snow program shuttered basically overnight and kicked everybody off though, because it never caught on.

Completely agree about the Canadian guests being awesome. They just seem more comfortable with some of these guys and it's nice to hear some of the inside stories from their crews up there.

All this Stenger talk and we will probably never get an interview, ever.  Seems as if he could’ve given two shits anyways.  Wish Craig would’ve fully had his back, but they’ve slept on some of the best historically.

Stenger was something else though.
