Wasn't the best interview. The only thing that I thought was interesting was that Carroll said he fired Daniel Wheatley because he went on vacation to go visit Scott Johnston when he said have been filming for "The Flare" Lakai video because it was crunch time and he thought that was setting a bad example. He also mentions that Wheatley was instagramming pictures of himself in a hot tub on a Boys of Summer Trip when he should have been filming more lol. Another interesting bit of information was that he originally wanted to do a switch f/s bigspin back blunt on a handrail and Koston beat him to it in "Fully Flared."

fucked up. sounds like lack of communication. i believe dan honestly.

Dude is stuck at 19 mentally
[close]

Is this surprising to people? I’m not sure he even finished high school. Dude’s whole life has just been skateboarding.

I haven’t listened to the bunt interview yet but was it epicly laterd where they talk about him and Greg living on their own in the house in high school? Not getting set up for emotional success!
I thought it wasnt just him solo, shouldve stuck with my og thought.

MC is one of my all-time favourites, but the amount of burned earth the negligent management style at Girl has produced over the last decade is no joke.

Also in regards to the Biebel outcome: Social media always is hyperbole, but people were rightfully appalled by that stupid post. If Carroll truly saw no issue with his post he should have kept Biebel and not blamed the public for having to remove his board.

Never would've guessed Antwan was one his fav skaters...

Koston stole Jeron's trick (nollie noselide on a rail) then Carroll's...I see a kook pattern here...

Looking forward to Mike's 50 for 50

I've seen Koston do that countless times in demos and comps over the years. It's sad because a demo should be low key and fun, but he always has to show everyone that what they're doing is too easy for him.

I really want the Bunt to get Howard on. Canadian representation.

I never realized Rick Howard and Megan Baltimore of Girl were married? Seems like its not a secret but also not common knowledge or something that was ever talked about that I recall. Cool!

I skipped through a lot of the interview ... Mike Carroll definitely one of my favorites and has the best bs smith in the game, kinda changed the game on that trick i wanna say.

seemed like they were not really too impressed by mike saying he went to skate camp and met the H STreet squad and mike ternasky, that would be equivalent to skating with the limosine team at tompkins for a week or whatever in current era. I dont think they quite realize how impactful H Street was. I actually dont know a whole lot about mike ternasky, i dont know how he got into skating etc. did he also skate? Have seen maybe only 1 picture of him and was from far away.

i feel like this could have been edited down to be way shorter but they probably felt like they would be doing mike a disservice shortening the convo down?  a lot of this stuff i have heard from the epicly latered etc

I just realized I don’t know any of that stuff either - with how much you hear about ternasky especially growing up in the late 90-00s when it was still all pretty fresh you never hear anything pre plan-b about the guy.

A quick google search found his daughter is now an Emmy award winning filmmaker so that’s cool. But I would love to be pointed in the right direction for this info .

You’d be surprised how many younger generation skaters refer to them as fakie frontside flips, I have seen it firsthand on Instagram and tried to school those who were not aware of the proper nomenclature, I don’t recommend it.

It used to annoy me and I would correct people when I heard it but now I just hold it in and let it go.

Also I love how MC more than once proudly stated that he still uses the term “nose wheelie” , which I also do because I am even older than him.

Agree that the interview was a bit awkward but isn’t the onus somewhat on the bunt boys? I only listened to the audio but there was awkward energy in the first half where Carroll was asking them questions just to break the silence. The intro did mention Dono was nervous but seems like they didn’t make it easy for Carroll to shoot the shit.

Doesn’t look like they’ll be touching any really controversial topics but MC is on my Rushmore, so hyped on this!

They asked about Biebel, and it apparently the people who took issue with a homeless person getting assaulted are actually the "mean" ones.

I can’t believe people are still white knighting that random 10 second insta story that biebel just walked by and documented

lol yeah sure Biebel is quite the “documentarian”. I’m sure he was recording for historical preservation purposes
leave it to slap users to play word gymnastics.  Dude have you ever walked by some weird shit happening and just whip your phone out to film it?  I’m not saying he fucking hired a crew to show it off on BBC…it’s literally just filming some crazy shit you walk by in the streets.

pretty sure I remember McCrank saying in an interview that Koston did that bs tail kf in Yeah Right on the same spot that McCrank did the same trick frontside, shortly after seeing footage of McCrank's trick. might have even been on The Bunt.

cool to see that he seems to be a good dad, since yeah in his Epicly Laterd episode it was clear that he grew up with an extremely unstable family situation

MC is a legend so I'll make time for him but that interview was tough because he takes FOREVER to answer a question, and sometimes his answers aren't really answers. Kind of surprised the Nine Club dudes got a better interview out of him, probably because they were watching clips the whole time

idk if he literally stole them or if he just happened to do the tricks, but I can definitely confirm from mccrank’s episode that when mccrank did the front tail kickflip on the wooden rail in yeah right, he told eric about it and eric went out the next day and one upped him with backtail kickflip

my bad, I hadn’t seen your post when I made mine about eric one upping mccrank. But also, to speak to the biebel incident, the context was that the homeless guy was walking around naked in front of innocent bystanders. That’s why he got punched. In the audio, biebel could be heard saying, “think about if kids were around”. Slap has this weird double standard where if they don’t like a pro, they leave out all context so that they can bash the guy. The person who punched the naked guy was also not biebel’s friend. Biebel filmed it and laughed because he thought it was inappropriate to be naked in public.

I’ve got a kid, and would much rather have him see somebody trodding along in his birthday suit than being beat up.
But maybe that’s just me.

Always loved MC’s skating.
He really has a unique finesse on a skateboard.

He seems much more empathetic these days.

He doesn’t seem to be able to talk about Lakai because it’s been such a financial mess for years. I’m guessing they spent way too much on Beware of Flare and had to sell it to try and keep it afloat.

The whole story regarding Four Star, Koston and Mariano’s part ownership, I guess will never be a story that is discussed in public.

Stoked to see any footage that he puts out in the future.

While we all want the details there are often legal and moral reasons for not discussing these matters. Many industry folks are friends first and want to remain so and airing any details is going to cause controversy that these dudes don't want. Lakai was a 20+ year adventure that they likely want closure for. Imagine doing your job and all of your long term fans are inevitably disappointed and bitching. It's one thing if you're an NBA player making millions, but another if the thing everyone is bitching about was your creative lovechild that had to weather everything that's happened this millennium.

Easy to forget how big "core" shoe brands were in the early to mid 2000s, especially today when Nike / NB / Adidas / Vans have monopolized the markets. There was a time when Emerica / eS / Lakai were the biggest shoe brands and being on the team was a badge of honor, not the silver medal it is today.

Did Biebel even still skate at that time? I feel like he was already done by then even though he still had a board. Classic Crailtap.

I wanna say he was still posting to IG around that time. But he was definitely on his way out of skateboarding regardless.

Carrolls episode was nine club level bad. He didn't say a a single interesting or funny thing
