Is no one going to call out random skater of the week ft Tim O'Connor during the Louie Barletta episode?

".. but did have a guest board for Carpet."

crickets

Tim: "The fuck is Carpet?"
Cephas: "Whats Carpet?"
Donovan: "It's like a New York thing it's close enough to you isn't it?"
[close]

Dude is like 50 and has a family - totally understandable if he doesn't have time to know about every little avant garde company pushing out limited edition product :D.
[close]

I’m 40 with a family and all I know about carpet is that it’s a company, or maybe a crew idk. Abe Simpson really was telling the truth.
[close]
Ok but neither of you are a rotating guest on Random Skater of the Week segment on a skate podcast so we wouldn't expect that of you. I mean I get he's washed but maybe stay up a little on the scene if you still want to be a part of it in even a distant way.
[close]

Idk, I wouldn’t expect a former NFL player with a mid-tier career (I say this because Tim O’Connor never had his own full part, right? Outside of a tour video?) to know all the current players, even if he was a guest on a talk show and still part of the league in some capacity.

But also, carpet is more of a NYC hype brand than a skate co, right? The current site shows no skateboards, just $100 tote bags and $50 tees (and nutcrackers?). I don’t think they even post skate footage. Most people mature out of supreme in their mid-twenties, so it’s hardly surprising he’s out of the loop of some NYC hype brand.

Carpet is outta Baltimore, not NYC.

And yeah, Cephas should know the brand. But the Bunt guys are so fried and out of the loop now it doesn’t surprise me. They didn’t even know what frog was. Got a little too buddy-buddy with the LA industry heads imo.

Didn’t cepas say it like “you don’t know carpet??”. Would have to relisten. I’m a pretty big skate nerd and I don’t know anything about carpet other than it exists.
I thought it wasnt just him solo, shouldve stuck with my og thought.

I’m 48 with a family and I can tell you that the carpet guys (brothers?) were engineers that saved up their money and bought a derelict factory in a terrible neighborhood in Baltimore. Tim’s a stay at home dad. Dude’s never worked a real job.

Being old is no excuse. Get your priorities in order Tim!

Everyone worships JOA who didn't know what Evisen was at one point but a middle aged ex pro isn't allowed to be ignorant towards the existence of Carpet lol

I never had a real legitimate reason for being grossed out by Mickey papa. Sure I was always annoyed by his voice, his skating, his stupid face and the way he dresses, but now after hearing that story I realized my intuition was correct. I hope Louie had a hand in keeping some doors closed for him because of that incident.
[close]

Same, that story was brutal, poor kid. Louie was the perfect guest for the pod, they are into stories and he delivered. Leaving james at the gas station made me smile.

The Micky Papa story was the worst, the one with Ben Reamers driving through Texas without a passport was hilarious. As was Gravette's poop and hunting stories.

I dunno about American sports but I’d absolutely expect that of an ex footballer in England if they’re going on as a pundit to talk about football.

That was so funny when Davis said "he got his first board from toys-r-us and Beagle closed his eyes deep in his thoughts like "Fuuuck!! Who could it be???"

Mad props from Sven for calling out Penny for being fried and just bumming. There needs to be more people being called out for their self destructive actions like this.

What's that?
note grauchos video and the flip up the stairs

when someone's flip trick does more scraping the ground (figurarively burning all the worms that live there up) with the deck- rather than flipping in the air completely and being caught & stomped

I had no idea Pageau died several times on that rail +1 +1

Last winter I went skating the indoor park in Zurich and he was working there. Suddenly he started goofing around and did like 30 nollie pop shuvs next to me and I never witnessed such perfection, the pop, the execution, he really is a goddamn magician.

Sven seems like a decent dude and hella funny but that Penny story bummed me out. These older pros, regardless of how washed up, don’t owe us shit. I could see if you’re washed up and a total dickhead to people for no reason then sure, call em out. But calling out a skater you don’t even know who’s an addict, and most likely struggling with mental illness, is pretty wack imo.

I had the same take. Funny ass dude and interview, but half his stories were about getting fucked up and partying. And he details how he got a career ending injury from a partying accident. Yet Tom Penny being fucked up pissed him off enough to call him out?
