It might be time to call it. Why do people have to run shit into the ground? I don't get it. It's not getting any better only worse.

It’s because these idiots literally have no other way to make money

Crob the most braindead unfunny guy ever

You can tell they don’t even give a shit anymore, the train gotta keep moving tho, what else are they gonna do

Sorry state of affairs
[close]

i hear about the chocolate tour vid and chris somehow relating certain things about the guest or topics on the live back to himself. and repeating the same talking points in every show.

That’s how it’s always been. The first couple hundred episodes Chris kept talking about sw flip sw manual and ‘I was in welcome to hell’ no matter who the guest is

In the grand scheme of things Chris does not have a pro skate career worth boasting about.

Chris Roberts hanging onto the YouTube and Nine Club thing for dear life.

The Bunt and Mostly Skaeboarding Podcast are the goats by far (altho not when Patrick Kigongo is on Mostly, he’s insanely awful and cringe)

Nine Club has been terrible for years now - agree with what others said, despite their flaws it was best when Eldy and the poser guy were on and they just shot the shit. Crob is a zero tier host and shows himself up as a clueless kook every time the camera rolls…dude doesn’t even skate and has zero skate knowledge outside of his very limited girl/chocolate bubble. Add to that he has the worst sense of humour and is braindead…

Call it a day boys

after watching the recent PJ ladd ep. the show is cooked
Crob fumbles so many questions due to not knowing the person he's interviewing.

Seemed like Kelly knew more about PJ and had some experiences with skating with him, so not sure why he didn't ask better questions.  JW didn't really say shit for almost 3hours...then why show up if youre not going to engage.

PJ seemed more interested in their past at world/girl/chocolate then they were of him.

i have to disagree, the most memorable thing from that entire interview was when jeron said "being in the mix is a good way to get in the mix"

Good point, sidelining the other guys (who were still trash), promoting Jeron and Rog moving backstage was a turning point

I think Jeron is just stoned most of the time during filming, that's why he doesn't usually speak for the first hour, then slowly starts saying stuff like "yeah, you're absolutely right", and then later on drops gems like the ones posted above.

Jeron's efforts on the show mimics the work ethic of the work from home employee who joins the zoom call, camera off, audio muted, zero contribution until the end when he unmutes himself to say "bye" to everyone

Replacing Rog with Jeron and booting Eldy off the live show is when it went downhill imo. Even though Rog is kind of an introverted curmudgeon at least he actually knows the history of skating, Jeron is too stoned to care or be interested. Crob's whole schtick gets tiresome and it's sad because when he's more off the cuff he's actually semi-entertaining, he just doesn't have the charisma to play the role he gave himself. I don't mind Kelly as the hype man/fan boy, his enthusiasm is endearing even if he sounds like a SoCal frat boy. They should have kept Eldy and made the 5th spot a revolving door of regulars like Jeron/Mike York/Daniel Castillo/Vincent Alvarez/Returning guests. Someone else said earlier in the thread but I think they're better off doing a season format for the main show and every other week for the live show.

When Robert’s asked that first question…. Then Kelly proceeds to laugh… then Robert’s looks at him really pissed any annoyed asking what’s a funny he’s being serious. That shit was low key funny low key insight on how over they are of each other as someone else said. At least Kelly and Robert’s

I mean, I didn't listen ro 9C in god knows how long. Nor did I listen to it before. Like, 5 to 10 times tops in their entire running time.

But what's this talk of falling off, downward trajectory etc? How much worse could they possibly be? Even when I listened to them a couple of years ago, they were all basically semi-living entities with vocab of a tickle-me-Elmo. Show ran purely on the guests' willingness to talk.

agree 100% about rog adding interesting value with his skate knowledge.

jeron feels like he kinda keeps the peace between everyone. even though he doesn't say much, i appreciate him being there especially on the live which is where he's best. he's had some great points/stories on the live that really made certain episodes pop. kelly is my favorite honestly because of like you said his hype man/fan boy persona who nerds out on skating. he's looped into the industry too so he shares valuable thoughts on different eras. he makes the show lighthearted and fun.

and really agree about crob's schtick. i didn't mind him in the earlier years of hosting and found him to be funny or insightful at times when he was being himself. i thought he used to ask good questions mostly. when he tries too hard to push something he thinks is funny or talks about how he wishes he could do X or can't do Y during every interview/segment, it becomes a tough listen.

revolving guests will only work when it's someone who can add value. i can't remember who it was but someone who wasn't a pro was recently a live guest host and it wasn't as good. someone like a p-rod who is good at asking questions, personable on camera, respected in the industry and will share insights for example. not just someone who will say a part they're watching is sick and not adding anything to the conversation.

also - they need better merch.

Didn't Rog ask to be off camera and more of a background producer role? Agree with Jeron though, he hardly adds any insight that doesn't require reminiscing about the old World Industries/DVS days.

I respectfully disagree; it would be rather nice if he would start taking some things seriously.  Like, say… his role as host of a podcast?
The smallest amount of (p)research into his guests would be a fine place to start.
Maybe less softball questions?
I mean, if he wants to keep at this, these seem like pretty low bars to jump over & the quality of programming would prolly only benefit.

I wanna play you in a game of SKATE for the right to continue talking shit on me… You think you got me?

Funny thing is I feel like crob thinks that his role on the 9Club is going to launch him into some bigger media persona kind of job. He is just waiting to be 'discovered'

He got a shot at sideline commentary on some comps, and blew it because he thought it was funny to talk about stupid things. He asked competitors about the lights a bunch in one comp, then told that story on the show about how clever it was.

I've struggled for a while to put into words what rubs me the wrong way about Chris Roberts when he's hosting this show, but I think the PJ Ladd episode made it a little easier.

I don't think PJ got a word in without Chris chuckling afterwards, almost like an awkward tick. I haven't watched in a while, but looking back this basically pops up any time anyone talks about anything that isn't directly related to skating.

Now to be clear, I don't really subscribe to the breathing technique/yoga stuff in the beginning. Sure, it's wild he spends two hours a day on that, but you're interviewing the man! Either guide him into talking about something else your comfortable with or respect what he's saying for the sake of the conversation (and ultimately the quality of the show).

It just feels weird and patronizing every time PJ tries to say something they'd be giggling while he's just straight face looking at them like, "ok, I'm not joking, but anyways.."

I don't think this is unique to Chris, and I definitely know a bunch of people who do this in real life, but it feels particularly egregious on a podcast.

Unrelated, but I'm glad I stuck around for a bit because it's really a treat to hear the savant type skaters (IE: PJ) talk about board shape love/hates. That's pretty much the skate content I am seeking atp, so thank you Nine Club.

Yea you can tell duringthe whole mediation part CRob wasn’t taking Pj seriously saying shit like “yea I need to empty my hard drive trash bin, mine is overflowing”.  Kept telling PJ “imma do it bro that’s sounds amazing”

Is it just me or did that end up being PJ Ladd interviews the Nine Club rather than the other way around?
Seems like PJ was genuinely curious though. "Did you guys skate to the sand gaps? How often did you guys go to SF? Where did Mike York live?"
Maybe he should have gotten on Girl, seems like he's very interested in what they were doing around that time.
