The fact that so few mention Sour is really weird to me.

What about your favourite decks brands? Defunct too.

My random:

Alis skateboards
Flip
Nomad
Antiz
Charge skateboards
[close]

Can Flip still be considered a Euro brand?

Why wouldn't it be?

Haven't they been based in Cali for over 20 years?

witchcraft(think it's basically done? the koloss dudes from germany wanted to keep it running but i think they just kept some decks around...)

Wait are Antiz and Jart like real brands? I always thought they were some sort of fake shit that got by through selling cheap decks.

Sometimes their decks are cool and sometimes they’re corny as fuck so I don’t know what to make of them.

Also, should Jart be pronounced like “hart?” Or are they leaning more Germanic and it’s like “yart?”

Just to clarify, Antiz is a real company, run and created by long time european rippers, hobo travelling and pushing good vibes.

Jart is a Basque factory, run by a family who also does furniture, which had the first legit woodshop in Europe. Hence they have been really trying to figure out how to press as many boards as possible. The quality has sucked for a long time, apparently nowadays it's slightly better.

The '80s were the worst period. You had these horrible pop bands growing their hair and calling themselves metal.

i think dungeon is frenchs new own thing on top but as i understood he was cool with witchcraft being done by the koloss/black heaven dudes or allowed them to handle it from here on, but they didn't do much i guess.

looking on their site now, they have dungeon, but only some witchcraft softgoods, and these are from the last collection, where they were already doing pastel colors and white shirts. it seems frenchs new style doesn't fit the old purist occult metal aesthetic anymore. the last witchcraft drop already looked a bit like what he does now with dungeon. no witchcraft decks, but i expected that tbh.

Antiz is pressed in China, as with a bunch of other less popular brands like Nomad, BDskateco and Droshky. Really average wood, good for about a week before it starts to sog out.

Antiz wood and shapes are really bad. It's become really difficult for european brands to get decks from North American woodshops at a price cheap enough to make any profit at all at current deck prices. A friend of mine just recently started a small brand and he showed me the numbers. He tried very hard to make it work using PS Stix wood, but he would have had to sell them at a higher price than known American brands, which would not work at all. People expect local brands to be at least a little cheaper than American ones.

Check out his little brand here: https://www.instagram.com/kaffeeskateboards/

i rode propably over 20 Jart boards in my life and so did my peers and basically everyone else in Europe. and there was never a reason to complain about quality. they held up perfectly well always and stood every comparison to any American brand.

Anyone remember those STM decks back in the mid 90's.
Quite a few of my mates starting out had the white Shaft deck.

I remember I begged my mum to order me an STM hooded fleece from one of their Sidewalk ads and some cunt stole it a week later while I was working at maccas.

i haven't ridden as much, and it's been more than 10 years. but they were all crap when i had them. i'll take your word for it and check them out again, i know they changed stuff up. i never had a problem with how the boards skated(decent actually) but they would always break after one or two weeks and i would usually retire boards after a month or two even back then than straight up break the tail off. i would compare them to crailwood back then. feels fine when new but gets soggy and dull fast and then breaks without warning on flat tricks.

if anyone know about rave, i was thinking they might be jart wood but i'm not sure, but i'd try a sour or rave deck.

i don't know about antiz actually, they might be xcel/mdcn or something, or hlc. either way love antiz, but wasn't a fan of the boards i had except one. i don't know what was up with that, the thing wouldn't die.

i'd like to see european pressed boards succeed but have to admit i didn't care to buy any board made by jart in over a decade as far as i know.

I used to be the first to shit on Jart during the 2010's but lately they have upped their game and their boards do not for pressure cracks during the first day of skating one. Lots of EU brands use Jart wood and a friend who bought from them for his company said they offer like 10 different grades of quality. The Sour boards that I have been religiously skating the last 3 years have all been top notch (lasting me 2 months at least before I dispose because of razor tail). During this time I skated a couple Jart branded boards because i couldn't find Sour and they seemed to not last longer than 3-4 sessions.

thanks, so it's probably dwindle, xcel or ps china or wherever craig does boards i guess. ps china was always trash, so i hope it's one of the three other at least. i could deal with those i guess.
