My first amp was a bandit 112. I had the backstage and a few others.

I love peavey amps

If you mix it with a boss distortion. Hm2 or a od2 you got the chainsaw tone. Super distortion or a sd distortion and v 30s
You get what I'm going for. I didn't include it in my pic because I picked it up a week earlier but just off camera from the Bandit is an HM-2. I was either gonna buy a clone or the Waza reissue and picked that one up since I figured it's cool Boss made those available again.

Been listening to Soulside Journey a lot. I'm not even sure they used an HM-2 but the sound is similar. Also Left Hand Path, which the story goes was recorded using a Bandit and an HM-2. Weirdly enough, the bridge and solo for the title track sound heavily influenced by David Gilmour, also an HM-2 user.

2014 semi flat black tv back. (Unfilled grain.) I forget the model.

Someone must've sold two to guitar center. Note the Wine Red sister fiddle I passed on. I prefer the red top but the back and neck of the black one is fuckin perfect. Im really stoked on the electronics.

Miles better than my plus top. I didn't know China had a custom shop? They should do this more.

I might pull out the pickup and throw a super distortion in.

Maybe a screaming demon. Something hotter than this Probucker 3. The neck is perfect

Sorta seems like how all the hollow and titanium etc trucks were assembled in the US from some or all parts made in China. Not sure if DLX is still doing that but I know that ended for Indy in 2019ish.

https://www.lespaulforum.com/index.php?threads/some-gibson-custom-shop-guitars-335s-are-actually-made-in-china-and-japan.197823/
I found this thread from 2015 talking about finding some Gibsons that were assembled in the US from some parts in China. I think it's probably where everything high end is going. Charvel has a Made in the USA line but the tremolo bridges are Gotoh still and the tuners are likely OEM. If that kind of manufacturing gets you an LP without credit card debt then who cares where the parts were made as long as they were made well. Both of those guitars look really nice and I would be stoked to play them in person. I need to go walk the little cut in Hollywood where all the guitar shops are. I'd imagine some of them may have closed by now but an LP I could actually afford might change my whole perspective. I at least wanna play one.

I found some debit card fraud in my account that wound up getting me a $250 credit so I bought a used Charvel HH HT DK24 off of Reverb that looked pretty unloved. The guy who was selling it was panic dropping the price. I DMed and told him to chill and that I'd buy it for the price he listed it for, which was $50 cheaper than the lowest price I've seen one sell for. If I wind up not feeling it, I'm gonna trade it in for that Jackson.

My main concern was the Full Shred bridge pick-up that I can't find any real fans of and a lot of haters. And then it was made for Nancy Wilson and the Dio guy used it a lot. Not exactly selling me. I did find a pretty good mod for it that I may just do off rip. Replacing the hex screw with 3/4" fillister screws will tame some of the highs and and add some low end. It's a $4 mod and basically makes it a half way Custom I guess. You'd need to change out the magnet but that's also an option and then it would be a Custom. That one was on my short list anyway. The EQ profile makes sense to me but that may be something I have to get over. Safe bet woulda been a JB and I sorta don't get why it didn't come with that in the first place. Other Charvels do. This one has a Jazz in the neck and that's fine.

I wanted to get back into buying more guitar stuff but it is just way too expensive for me. I can't believe these pedals are $200 now, but I suppose $50 in 1996 is probably equivalent to $200 now....

I started to feel like I was getting too far away from the original guitar sound with going absolutely mental with pedals and gear and stuff so i stripped it all away and started fresh with something (relatively) simple and never looked back.

I have a Fender Tele made in USA, and a 15 watt fender gdec and 30 watt Fender Rumble Bass Amp. I run the wire into a Boss Flanger (dont usually turn it on) which allows me to split the signal into 2. I run one into a Loop Pedal, and then into a electro-harmonix Octave pedal, and then into the bass amp. The other I just run into a distortion pedal (dont usually run it at all or turn it on though) and then into the guitar amp. So i play the rhythm and then the bass into the loop, and then i turn up the guitar amp and play my solo / lead overtop of that :) been playing a lot more since I created this station and I think it sounds awesome!

The one thing I wouldn't mind getting a better version is my loop pedal. I can buy a Digitech Jam Man for $100 Canadian used, I think that could be really useful. My current Loop pedal is just this thing off amazon my friend gave me for free, very very basic functionality but it does the trick. it just sucks cause you cant even really start and stop the loop mid song very easily.

I have heard good things about the TC Ditto Looper and it looks like that is about 135 CAN. You guys are in a tough spot with the exchange rate right now - that pedal is 99 here and is the same price as the Boss RC-1, which is more like 150 CAN. Those are the two cheapest that I had been looking at @rawbertson

Yea I recently got back into music production and decided to buy a delay pedal...went to guitar center and good lord was I blown away by the prices, last time I bought a pedal was in 99-00, the sticker shock had me reconsidering buying one.  I ended up spending a lot more than I wanted to for this last year for over $100

you can do anything with an audio interface, a PC, and virtual amplifier apps. the technology and programs have gotten so good the sound is almost indistinguishable from an analog amp. a lot of guitar content creators just plug directly into their PCs. I recently got an interface and for whatever reason I'm having a difficult time dialing the settings and using the best program, so you will have to do some research. I prefer analog equipment because I'm so used to it and its just easier to work with. I bet you can get some really demented and truck'd up tones using that flanger paired with that octave pedal, and on an american tele... shiiiit. you'd be silly not to get back into it since you have that equipment!

but man, if you have the urge to start playing again, go for it. guitars and all the sounds you can make with them are so much fun. I have been playing around with guitars since I was a child, started trying to really learn around 18 or 19, but didn't start really learning and taking it seriously until I was 30. in all my youtube videos I've been posting, playing those licks gives me the same satisfaction as skating did, and then some.

we will always be chasing the rush that is landing a trick, and for me, the guitar has put that back into my life.

___

I wrote this post origianally because I wasn't sure if you were saying that you wanted to get back into playing, or get back into guitar in general... I just didn't fully understand, but I hope you never stop shredding @rawbertson !

Another thing to be aware of in pedal land is the Behringer clones that are about 30ish USD. You can just do a web search of what the pedal is a clone of and you might find a plastic knock-off that will do for now. For example, their Vintage Delay is a clone of the Boss DM-2, the HM300 Heavy Metal Distortion is an HM-2.

I own 5 epis. Ones a 70s bass with a real rosewood board and real mop inlays. Needs a brass nut. These are my mains for e standard tho. I have an ibanez S that i do drop A and a really nice epi plus top that needs redrilling. Also the strat projuect. Im so stoked on all this shit. That new one The Traditional Pro "custom sTop" Limited edition is soooooo nice. I love the split coil tone. Im going to flip the magnet. It should have a PB3 bridge and an ACP neck. IM 99 thats whats in it still. I looked at the wiring. IDK why epiphone didnt always use these orange drops and full size pots with tone bleeds even.

Those could be additives? I dont have the 2014 schematic. Other non ltd models from this pre 2019.5 era have the big pots but i was unable to scope the rest.

My plus top has baby pots but a sick 700t thats realy close to the homies 93 preimium plus. Thats a fucking painted by tom murphy legit made to order with a aaa top for his father. Not one other guitar on this planet sounds like that guitar.

https://youtu.be/h_ZI5TVZqC8?si=_Ajaez5xn05gfK51 this guitar right here. This is my homies family Band. Hes on drums Mums on vox Eric on Guit fiddle. Listen to this fool play. Hes a fucking legit guitar god.

The amp I have is kind of special... The Fender G-Dec. it has like 100 premade sounds built into it and you can basically do whatever you want with it to create your own. You choose an amp (blackface, tweed, etc) then you can add on stomp box, effects, etc.. i suppose it is technically a digital amp and not actually analog (but analog controls), doesnt have tubes. I suppose I just haven't had much reason to buy pedals after buying this to be honest.

https://www.justguitaramps.com/reviews/fender-g-dec-3-fifteen/ here is a bettter description than i can give

its really fun though... it feels kinda poser because I mostly just play the presets but like I said I am just having more fun staying closer to the more "natural" sounds of the guitar. its really easy for me to bring with me and jsut be like "put it to #33" and boom got the sound i need.

My friend and I are trying to practice together more... I always found it super hard to figure out making a band work. We were just having fun doing some covers and now we have kinda like 4 songs I think we could put together a short set. I like having some sort of end goal in mind - would be so rad to do an open mic some time or something like that. Small achieveable goal.

Sweet amp, @thanksgiving . I used to have a 100s (the baby version of yours lol) and miss it. I’ll scoop another one day if I can get it for under a grand. Congratulations and be careful moving that fucker.

Speaking of JC-120s, I use a Sunn Alpha 6100 in lieu of one for a current project. I’m using a Rickenbacker 360/6 atm so I was gonna pick up a JC-40 or an old JC-90, but the Alpha (or the Beta Lead) can do “the sound” if you use a Boss DC-2 or CE-2. Old pic cuz I’m not with ‘em right now.

so the alpha mixers actually sound the same as a beta? i have heard mixed opinions

Ba-dum-tiss!

Cleans? Interchangeable. As aforementioned, both can do the sterile icepick solid state and Boss chorus thing very well.
Typical Sunn sound? IME, close. You’ll get the same sound if you throw the same things at them. The Alpha can do a pretty large margin of what the Beta Lead can. The Beta Lead can go above and beyond though.

Appreciate the thought, I’ll be in Canada in September.
May be feasible.

I'm playing a show tomorrow at the Peabody vfw. Wicked sick show line up is so so sick.

I'm kinda stuck with my marshall cab. I know that sounds funny but my main cab. The blue voodoo came with vintage 30s. That's my main stack sound. The most important thing. My Carvin is more fender than marshall. I'd say it's almost boogie but more reliable. It's clean at super high volume. Especially through that cheap marshall cab with whatever.

I'm back lining my kit and I need my head. I'm using the Prius to get the stuff in Dorchester tomorrow. No space for my cab at all as there's two of us. I have no choice about the cab.

It's a MDF cab with I forget speaker in it. Most of the online community feeling similar it's a trash fire that's light enough to keep at home.

If I bought v30s for the MDF cab would tone be fixed? Is my birch crate cab just so blessed with the supreme sick in general that it just can't be topped?

I've read online that MDF should never be fucked with. It's just trash.

What do y'all think?
