Anybody ever hear of carbon fiber as a nut material? I think my JP Rhoads has a CF nut and the sides are finished so I don't really wanna change it out unless it's an issue. Too early to tell though.

Also am I cool to solder the bridge ground wire to the closest pot or do I need to put it at the end of the circuit? My inclination is to put it around the back of the closest pot but that's the neck volume. The tone pot is stuffed way in the corner of the cavity.

I’m always going to recommend either. Brass one of a custom compensated nut

Epiphone dropped their version of my #1 most sought after guitar.

So this is a 54 GOLD TOP!!! oh my god. The only thing that would make it better is if it had a flat black top nitro refinish on it.

Idk if I told you but I think the secret to my style is the wraparound tail piece and the custom gauge strings. I can get close with all my other guitars, but that combination. With a high gain amp and a hot pickup I’m on. No pedals needed.

After I finish paying for the record, I’m buying one of these  glass for one of these right now it fucking two geez. Gd gd.
[close]

Was watching Dickie Betts last night and for the first time ever, wanted a Gold Top Les Paul.
[close]

Oh yeah. I’ve always loved them. And jrs. Also veez most.
[close]

Always wanted a double cutaway Jr., ended up with an Epiphone Coronet with a single P90, which does the job pretty well.
[close]

I love that guitar. The epi p90 is so good. I just could only use it for recording. Live the high e would ring the way I wanted in a big open chord. In studio it was the best for leads. I had a lot of choices. I wish I could try one of the epi USA versions

The homie has a Coronado think it’s called. Epiphone just released the same thing all over again for like 1200. He only paid four for it. 2020 was the year to buy epiphone. Wish I bought two bja jrs.
[close]

Fender makes the Coronado. You’re probably talking about the Coronet, which has a $400 Chinese model and a 1200 USA made one. If I won the lottery, I’d buy the nitro $1200 model, but mine is the $400 one your friend likely has.
[close]

It’s crestwood. They got a 150th out now or something for like too much. Has a tricky trem. I like the one with the bat stock and the tail piece with mini humbuckers. That might be a Wilshire.
[close]

Yeah, my first nice guitar with a 65 Coronet/Dwight with the batwing headstock, which is why I bought the $400 reissue. They're all great guitars, no matter what, from the Chinese Gibson factory which does set necks and all the various Gibson USA tricks for a fraction of the price. Same place making that gold top LP you linked above.
[close]

I tried out the USA and Chinese Coronets back to back and the difference was minimal. USA had a slightly better neck and a better pickup but was lighter and felt less substantial (and this is already a light guitar with somewhat terrible neck dive). It didn’t feel like it was worth a $1200 price increase.

I really wanted to get the Coronet but I passed on a crazy good Marketplace deal because I knew my wife would give me shit for buying another guitar and I was worried the guy was selling it cheaply because it had some issue. (Some of the ones I’ve tried in stores have felt great and then a few had stupid sharp frets)

The neckdive is what is killing me. I don't remember it being an issue on my original Coronet, but holy crap this thing is ready to tumble at any second. Still though, I very much like the light weight and I think the P90 is killer.

Does anyone have any pedal recommendations to put together a compact and budget friendly “shoegaze/dreampop” pedal board? I’m not a snob and not that great of a player, I’m ok with off brand and clone recommendations. Thanks.
[close]
Behringer and TC Electronics makes cheaper pedals but still get the job done. I’d go for chorus, delay, reverb, vibrato and wah, but I don’t know the capacity of the pedal board you have or plan on buying.

Get a cheap EQ from behringer to push mids, honestly look at Craigslist for cheaper but quality pedals you can find pretty good stuff for reasonable prices and you can grow with it and probably save you money in the long run.

Distortion/fuzz
Chorus
Delay
Reverb
EQ
Overdrive
Tuner (is you’re into alt tunings)

Really go on this website below and type your favorite gaze/dreampop artist and you can figure out what they use and emulate.

I got an sg junior and an affinity squier strat, i play mainly reagan era punk/hardcore so im usually using my strat just because i love the very thin tinny sound of the single coil bridge pickup. I really like the mentally ill if any of you know that band but i love the really thin sounding guitar and the pronounced bass sound, i like it to sound like a swarm of angry flies lol. Im also into early grindcore and powerviolence, shit like capitalist casualties, spazz, infest, crossed out, assück, napalm death, and discharge (theyre a d beat band but you get the point) so when im playing stuff like that i use my sg just because the double coil bridge pickup has a fuller sound and the shortened scale makes it easier to move around the neck really fast.

They aren’t compact but Danelectro pedals are budget friendly.  The Cool Cat chorus was my first pedal I got last year for $30.  Analog and sounds great and easy to use, can get real dreamy or subtle.
I was going to get a Boss Chorus, but tested the waters with this and ended up loving it and put the spare bucks towards the BF-2 Flanger which can kind of do chorus stuff on its own too.

The $25 Fab Tone distortion is kind of obnoxiously dirty but sometimes that’s exactly what I want.

Def would move the button. If I want playing a jr.

I’m selling all my guitars with tops soon. They chafe my fore arm all the time. And now I’ve found the one. I’m dumping some stuff. I should try to trade 4 epis for something nice like a tele with a fat v neck and throw a mini humb in the bridge. Or see if I can get a few more bja jrs for back up

Okay dumb question.. but is there such a thing as a tuning “emulator”?  I broke a string trying to tune to my acoustic to Open G.. which led me to question, is there an app, or pedal, or anything that you could play an electric (or acoustic) through to give you the Open G, Drop D, etc sound, while still in standard tuning?

This is a little above my head as I've never used this kinda gear but yeah you can totally pitch shift your tuning down. I know touring metal bands use this sometimes so that they only have to use one guitar per set. Their front end is often entirely digital anyway so it's just a matter of having those settings loaded in with all the others.

Just from a quick web search, I found this demo but you may be able to find a video that is a little more tailored to your needs.

Here's one that is probably more what you are looking for actually.

Appreciate it!  Fortunately it wasn’t necessary… I realized I’m just a dummy and confused “tuning down” with “tuning up”, which led to the snapped string.

Got inspired by the video of Billy Strings covering Pink Floyd’s Fearless.  It was like, whoa, he’s not even fretting chords and it sounds great.  Open tuning is like a cheat code.

There was a guy selling a Squier Telecaster for $100 near me. It looked basically new and I could see a Seymour Duncan pickup in the bridge. I asked the guy which pickup it was and he said he just bought it from the Guitar Center website and didn't know, but I figured it would be worth it for the pickup alone so I bought it.

Today I was finally restringing it, and I figured I'd pop the thing open to see what was inside, and it turns out that whoever had traded this guitar into GC had outfitted it with a pair of Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound pickups and what looks like the Stewmac "Premium" Telecaster wiring kit. Not bad for $100!

That's a nice come up! I love tricking out lower end guitars, particularly when there aren't any material differences with a more expensive version. I've been speccing out a Tele build for a class later this year and SD Quarter Pounders are on the list of pickups I might go with. I'm leaning towards doing a Tele Plus set up and getting a universal wiring harness. In that case I would go with Lace Sensors because that's factory spec, they're quiet in coil split and I can get the proper 500K volume for the humbucker. The class says the materials should be between 5-600 but I'm seeing more like 800 and I'm not sure how much flex I have in what materials I'm required to use. Either way, I'm psyched to build something from blanks and maybe my ghost Tele will show up as a secret come up for somebody down the road.

Score. I love mode used. I think Covid turnt hundreds of guitar players into techs. Cuz guitar center out here is constantly loaded with upgraded price points. And down graded gibson USA stuff.

I went in a few days ago they got an all cherry studio headstock and all I think for 700 - 800 with some type of sweet hot ceramic in it and the fat neck.
The top was nice as fuck. It looks bound but it’s just the maple tops crazy light.  I want but no.

I’m selling a few guitars Rn. One I’m likely stuck with because it’s got a fat neck. Satin black too. Why I bought it. But then a few days later I found the 2022 59 with a fucking Dime bucker in it. Didn’t notice it had the post lean but what ever. That shits like a fucking 1200 fiddle. Someone ripped the lane ass burst bucker out the bridge. I have no idea why people prefer that over the bb2 neck. That pickup ins incredible.

So 59 style in the neck and the dime. I have almost exactly the Dimebag tone. He played his pickup with a sd 59 in the neck. That in conjunction with my birch crate blue voodoo cab that came with v30s I can rip a wide variety of tones with no need for more up grades.

Still I prefer the jr. single super distortion. I should look for used bja jrs to trade for so I got extras

Never owned one but have picked one up. They are heavier than you might think and that's the big drawback as far as I know. That and if you drop them and have a catastrophic break, it's kinda toast. No chance hiding that repair.

A friend had a Univox copy of a Dan Armstrong and basically it sounded like an electric guitar but weighed ~15 lbs or so. He was a big dude too, and the weight was way too much for him. Other than a Vistalite snare drum, I can't think of an acrylic instrument which stands out as anything other than a stage novelty.

A friend of mine had a Dan Armstrong bass, toured it for a couple of weeks, and sold the second he got back because he ended up dreading having it around his neck every night. I played it once or twice and it felt twice as heavy as my little mustang bass.

Has anyone here owned a lucite guitar? If so any cons? I tend to only believe pals about durability and potential suck factor. I was going to say skaters but I remembered all pros lie to barely live.

A friend had a Univox copy of a Dan Armstrong and basically it sounded like an electric guitar but weighed ~15 lbs or so. He was a big dude too, and the weight was way too much for him. Other than a Vistalite snare drum, I can't think of an acrylic instrument which stands out as anything other than a stage novelty.

https://www. .com/parts-and-hardware/all-hardware-and-parts-by-instrument/electric-guitar-parts/electric-guitar-bridges-and-tailpieces/non-trem-electric-guitar-bridges/hipshot-baby-grand-bridge/ I just had a homie order this for me. I’m worried I blew it in measurements 8) it has been so long since I had looked at a measuring tape.
The Epiphone lightning bolt bridge sucks. I can’t deal with it. I play coated 9-46 strings. I should be getting 3 shows out of those. It’s like skating a 7.5. I stomp my chords. I’m not trying to use the back up. And…
This looks like I can play behind the bridge. I need that noise. Above the nut don’t cut. I used an r0 on the album playing behind the bridge

@Unkle Fleak So that replaces the bridge but the stop bar stays or does that replace the whole thing? Please post a pic when you get it mounted.

Bet.
Just the post screws and the unit I hope. I don’t wanna pull and push in the new plugs. I’ll post as soon as I get it mounted.
I’m a little worried that I might have to re-drill on account that my lightning bolt was perfectly initiated and its innermost position  no additional screws was needed. Hopefully this will be the same. Probably designed for slack? Idk. If this don’t work I’m switching to prs One (jrs).
I need a sponsor tape for prs. What do I do pals? Should I just contact them begging?or ibanez. I need a fucking Fireman. The purple one with the triple pg13s. Yo Paul Gilbert is the truth. I need to bring the slide back to punk rock.
His new model has the wrong pick up in it. But it has the slide magnet. I need that in my life

Next I need to do a nut replacement for my back up.

Se the purple has the pickup configuration of gawds but the black one has the sick bridge like faux string through or whatever you would call that shit. I need a fireman. That shit look like a flea and everything

Why you want three pickups? It just seems so much to me. Two seems to be the God pickup config, but maybe I am missing something.
Is it true?  Or did you read it on the slap message board?

Picked up a little Cort Grand Concert sized acoustic yesterday at a neighborhood thrift store. I think, due to its size, it had been listed as a "Toy" and sold for $60. It's nothing special, I didn't find a pre-war Martin, but it's got a solid spruce top, laminate mahogany sides and a rosewood fretboard, along with a crappy chipboard case.

I took it home, cleaned and oiled it up, and restrung it with some Martin Retro Blueglass strings (Monel/nickel) and it sings. A great little guitar! It's 20 years old and could use a shave to the saddle to bring the action down a bit, but it's playable as is and I probably just need to get used to slightly higher action.

Nice find.

So, Korg is pushing old stock of ES-styled guitars with pickups similar to P90s:

They’re Korean-made, so it’s probably made in the same factory as the electric Guilds that go for above $1000.

For under $600, I couldn’t resist. I was watching it on Reverb a couple months ago, but it sold out by the time I checked out. Then, I got the notification this morning. Perfect timing, because I almost bought a SG Special last night, after realizing that a USA Casino is out of my price range.
