Eric Koston. He was almost everyone’s favorite at the turn of the century.

No one else has said Koston so far. Everyone is ashamed now to admit they were fans at some point! Koston was really cool on VHS especially for a kid watching him. In  skateboardings social media era he just looks like a giant kook.

Nah I loved koston growing up I don't give a shit about his personal life.

Tony and Elissa because of THPS

Pretty much any one on World Industries once I learned more. I used to browse their website for hours on dial up Internet. I was pretty stoked on mike peterson and chad bartie

Got into skating around when THPS came out and naturally gravitated to Kareem Campbell.
I didn’t even have a board at that point though. After I really started I would say Jason dill cause of photosynthesis or Jason Adams cause of label kills.

101 Koston was pretty much legendary at the time; especially circa Falling Down (1993). Gang Starr’s “Now Your Mine” definitely set a tone. Some local skaters in Denver wrote “Eric Koston Is God” in wax at our Safeway/Parker Gaps spot. It was a different time. There was a mystery to him and that all went out the window by the turn of the century. Now, all bets are off. He’s still a legend, but somehow a total dork too.

What was funny about the wax graffiti is that someone else crossed out Koston and wrote in Mischker, who was my elementary school friend’s older brother and the first older skater I looked up to. Locals rule.

Duane Peters.
I feel dirty admitting that, but he was the shit to an 11 year old kid.

Who was your first favorite skater? Lots of people act like it was someone epic, but I doubt it.
Mine was Tosh Towsend, which is pathetic since Sight Unseen, my first movie, was fucking rad, and featured some of the best skaters ever (e.g., Cariel, Sanchez, Kirchart). But Tosh was 2 years older than me and seemed to be living my dream.
Don’t exactly remember but I remember koston was one of them

Jamie Thomas. Played a ton of Tony Hawk Pro Skater, my first complete was a Zero logo board, and the first video I bought was Misled Youth.

Willy Santos just because the "best" skater at my middle-school thought he was the absolute coolest pro skater ever.

However, I think Kris Markovich was probably the first skater I found on my own that I was super hyped on (until I met him in person, that was a huge bummer). Or, maybe, I was super hyped on Dan Drehobl first because I remember watching his part in some old Thrasher VHS over and over again.

Daewon in Skate More. All your normal big time pros at the time were cool and all, but they weren’t tailsliding waterfalls.

Gator. The first Thrasher I bought was where he was fighting the cop at Trashmore.
I liked that rebellious attitude as a 10 year old. And Vision was top dogs then.
No idea what was coming a few years later.
My 15 year old self definitely did not know how to comprehend that. (The crime itself and also being letdown on that level by someone you admire)
