My son just set this deck up.  It's got a great shape.  Pretty flat.

Can we include 7.87 rydaz as well?

Polar has been my go to brand for the past couple years, one of the few companies that makes my favorite board size.
[close]

i remember a fair amount of boards coming in 7.88 back when. i coulda/shoulda used those more often, as id generally skate well on them, and then go back to looking for a 7.4 or what have you.

anyways, the 7.81 eagle is also a great shape.

@TheLurper here is my forever question with setups in this size range: what size trucks?

Good question. My trucks are little too thin for my board. Pretty sure I went with the 129s instead of the 139s.

Sooo good! I have been looking for this in the european shops but still haven't found anything. The  Pendleton's graphic is sick and as you say it is kind of flat sounds sweet.

Is it a common thing to have a 8.25/8.375 board as a main and a smaller one (just under 8?) to train and learn some tricks ?

Because of the whole Cole abuse thing, I still feel weird about Zero, despite some skaters I like on (or formerly on) the brand. But, I have a very similar setup to you, just with a different graphic (the blood and 3 skulls one). So for me, your setup is sick. I gotta say I like the Zero 7.75 decks a lot. I'm not sure if I'm trippin, but the shape feels better than Toy Machine and my local shop decks around here. The 7.75 selection where I am is literally just Toy Machine, Zero, local shop deck, and ocassionally I'll see a Polar deck floating around on a shop's site.

I skated the blood and 3 skulls deck ('bloody nose' as we called it) in a 7.75 and I liked the shape as well. I too have reservations about supporting zero for the same reasons you mentioned, so I've moved on to palace, as I like that brand quite a bit more - Especially considering the other options we have as 7.5-7.75 enthusiasts... If I'm not mistaken, I think both zero 7.75s and Palace 7.75s are the same shape and mold. Both use BBS and have a 13.8 wheelbase.

Also just a personal preference - My Zero 7.75 didn't have any colored plys if I remember correctly. Maybe just the top, but the bottom ply was natural colored, which always looks cheap to me and gross once the graphic is skated off. Palace always has a number of colored plys, and always both the top and bottom - with a top graphic! You feel like your getting more bang for your buck. My current palace has 5 colored plys and a full graphic on the top ply.

Palace 7.75s are kind of hard to find however, as they haven't dropped any decks in that size in a few years it seems. You would have to find and old stock one via resale, or maybe through a UK skateshop website (They are much less common in the US). I found the one I'm currently skating on Depop of all places... brand new in shrink and slightly under retail.

I've also skated both toy machine and Polar 7.75s - Toy machine was awful for me as I didn't like the wood shop they used (maybe PS stix? it was superrrr flat and flexy and only had a colored top ply) and I'm just not into Toy machine. Polar was BBS I think and had quite steep concave and kicks (and colored plys lol), the only problem was that it had a wheelbase of 14.25, which is way too long for a 7.75. I don't think I hit the tail once on a kickflip the whole time I rode it. Very annoying, despite my hardflips being the best I've ever had them due to the steep concave.

Due to the palace shortage, my next deck will be a hookups 7.5. I actually think hookups has the best deck shapes on the market. Super tapered, pointed kicks which I love- 90s style. Plus I'm a sucker for 90s graphics, and they're silk screened <3

I actually totally forgot I rode a Palace 7.75 two years ago until you mentioned it lol. Two years is too long for me to remember how it felt/the concaves, but I liked the deck at the time. It was the one that was all Satan themed lol - like all red with pentagrams and flames. I do, however, remember that shit lasted a long ass time. I specifically remember the wood being like a strange grey/black (aside from the dyed plys), which intrigued me a lot at the time. I’m not sure about other people, but where I am Palace decks are still literally double (sometimes triple) the price of other brands, so not exactly easy for me to get, and need to prove their money’s worth.

I’d have thought Palace would be dropping 7.75 more consistently, since I read Danny Brady literally describe (in detail) his custom 7.75 setups with Palace in a Slam City Skates interview. But, a shame they don’t.

I loved the Polar deck, but could just be brand fanboying, since I’m very much biased towards Polar’s full lengths.

Hook-Ups is sick. Asian Goddess one of my favorite vids, but unfortunately never skated one of their decks.

I often wonder if Heroin will randomly start producing tiny-ass decks with decent wheel-bases as like an anti-meme to their current eggs. Either that or just reissues of old 7.75 decks in their back catalogue.

I think I am going to resetup my 7.75, but this time with 5.2s instead of 5.0s.

First time it felt so tiny, and now I like trucks wider than board. Hopefully bigger trucks make it more practical.

this was my 7.75 conundrum: 5.0s or 5.2s
i skated way better with 5.0s. my skating is almost exclusively slow flatground.
the board often looks dumb as hell and i couldn’t get over it.
the kelly green eagle is an excellent deck to size down too, in my experience

for me, I find it to be. also, this is the 7.75” tech setup I’m currently riding. probably worst shape I’ve ever had. but I do like frog’s 8.0” shape.

This has me cracking up, what exactly does Black Flag have to do with measuring your dick starting behind ya nuts?

Skateboarding is nothing but a game to find the right fits to appear like you're a proportional human being instead of a midget or a giant.

Any pals skate Thunder 145’s with their skinny boards? I only have once and that was maybe 2003 so I have very limited experience. When I’ve skated 8.0 the 147 were pretty sweet considering I’m an Indy guy. Flips were sweet and quick soooo curious on what the 145 experience is like. Thanks

i’ve had 145s, several times. way back when tho, like you were saying early 2000s.
i’ve had two ‘best days ever’, and one was in this time period, 7.6 ish board 145s (not sure if high or low) 51s.
anyways, yeah they were good

Been watching a lot of 1998-2001 videos lately and having a weird vibe that I want to have a whole era gear setup. And I’m talking I want to try Osiris D3’s . Kinda embarrassing but they look ridiculous and hideous but I never had any Osiris ever. Obviously can’t relive this time considering I was decent at skating then but I miss these times and want to have a trip down nostalgia lane with some goofy ass shoes I never had. Also desire a Shorty’s deck 7.5, 7.625 or 7.75 for this dumb idea. Possibly black panther bearings which I haven’t had since then either.

the vast vast majority of my ‘madness’ (desire to buy more skateboard stuff) happens from me
watching some skate media and getting sparked.
all to say, i can see it.

as to the d3s: i didn’t have them somehow. bridge too far for me, i guess.

Thunders to me feel pretty similar to how venture feels but thunder turns quicker but not in a swervy way like indy. People do complain about the lack of baseplate slide but i ride small wheels so it doesnt matter to me at all.

Hell yeah. Hook ups have the best shape on the market. Love their tapered kicks, and love that they are mostly silk screened! 7.3 is menacing though 8) what size shoes do you wear? Did you also add a layer of paint over the graphic?

I have one of their 7.5s on standby as my next deck.

Extra points for the black magic ;)

Thanks I really like this shape it reminds me of the early 2000s baker shapes as well. The board is screen printed and I spray painted over yellow. Oh and  I wear size 9 in shoes

Nice! Thanks for sharing. I wish baker would offer some decks in the 7.63 dimension and shape they used to make in the early 2000s. That shape would be perfect for me right now.

I felt like switching things up and had the idea to make a “10th grade” setup to recreate the general type of setup I rode during the peak of my skating skills growing up - same deck size range, truck brand, type of wheels, etc.

Politic 7.5”
7.75 Royal trucks
Non-F4 50mm Spitfires
Jessup

I thought I’d just mess around on it a few times and want to skate a bigger board again but I’ve ended up loving it (so much so that the trucks aren’t even grinded after two sessions because I’ve enjoyed skating flat so much).

https://youtu.be/vTYIew5-qro?si=QCLxNDgzDqiAxgJA

Was able to relearn fakie tres on flat and I was pretty excited about that.  I want to have a Puleo summer - small board and crusty spots, so I’m going to stick with this and grab a couple more 7.5’s…

I thought I’d just mess around on it a few times and want to skate a bigger board again but I’ve ended up loving it (so much so that the trucks aren’t even grinded after two sessions because I’ve enjoyed skating flat so much).

Was able to relearn fakie tres on flat and I was pretty excited about that.  I want to have a Puleo summer - small board and crusty spots, so I’m going to stick with this and grab a couple more 7.5’s…

Love the summer aspiration vibes and the fakie Tre!!!

I felt like switching things up and had the idea to make a “10th grade” setup to recreate the general type of setup I rode during the peak of my skating skills growing up - same deck size range, truck brand, type of wheels, etc.

I did the same thing last year. Set up a 7.5 just to mess around on. And I loved it. Everything about it just felt right. Then I started thinking about boards that I felt that I skated the best on(size, trucks, and wheels).
I am now on a 7.75, and I feel better than I have in years on a skateboard.
I say whatever works stick with it. And by the looks of that fakie tre, it’s working for you.

Good stuff!  That’s my gameplan as well.  Just picked up another 7.5”
