I am very curious how they evade the "they're in it just for the money" argument.  It wasn't a skateboard brand, its a few years old, and the owner doesn't seem like a skateboarder.  Maybe I'm wrong about the owner?

Cariuma feels like a transparent vehicle to indoctrinate the young people getting into skateboarding to not only buy products that are under their product umbrella (Bryte, etc.), thus usurping this support for the mainstream companies that we've come to know and love.

Furthermore, the funding for the company/ big marketing budget from the beginning smells like the people who have put the money up will eventually want to include a marketing direction that funnels these same people to their institutions or belief systems, sort of like a super PAC.

Notice that my answer had very little to do with skateboarding; that seems to be the problem.

Berra is suckling at the cariuma teat. Definitely on payroll. I worked for a footwear brand and overheard someone talking about him trying to bring airwalk back but it didn’t pan out so he brought the idea to cariuma.

other skate shoes make vegan shoes and I am sure Cariuma helped with the pressure to make them so, thanks for that, also, I think certain categories work best within their spaces only, boutique and mainstream are separate for a reason, they work best that way.   A more strategic roll out would have been more successful, and its never to late to adapt.  If it skates well and people get to try them, it will grow.  I would invest the money in making sure skaters get a pair at the parks to give them a try, its hard to build a new brand, the first one is free as the old saying says, maybe that will help.
