I am wondering for a while now, why is there a black square and why is it always on the left side?

I haven't noticed what you guys are talking about in B-roll but it sounds like it's a changeover cue that's probably added digitally to make it seem more film like when the footage could have started out as HD. Changeover cues are always in the upper left hand side of the screen and appear for about a 6th of a second. Anybody have a good example of this B-roll trope?

Seems most likely to be one of the new filters included in a recent software update for whatever HD video editing suite heads are using these days. Pretty much what our homey @jakeumms said. Digital image enhancements.

Thanks for the reference. Yeah Super 8 is single perf on the inboard side so they are scanning the whole frame, including stuff that would be cropped out normally or more likely it's just a filter they threw over some B-roll. Notice the black perf is not consistent throughout the section you linked. In some shots it's there, others not, but the footage maintains the same look.

yep, super 8 film. the perforations are on one side. my guess is the perforations show up because of the change of aspect ratio from super 8 to HD then encompasses all of the film that is otherwise cropped when viewing in another aspect ratio. the square is in the same place because the frames don't contain information at the empty spot

In related bitching, it's annoying when skate videos splice b horror film clips every couple of tricks. like the skating already kind of sucks if its some local or shop vid, and u aren't alien workshop so chill lol

Not a fan of Breeana and don't think she deserves to go pro. The level of women's skating getting fairly high and she just isn't there.
A small percentage of me wants to be wrong and put an amazing part together for the next Chocolate video...

Gary called it on Skateline. Not sure what Girl was thinking with that going pro promo thing?
And yeah, the thrasher cover is an ok photo but the trick is not that amazing but like I said, I'm hoping she proves me wrong with her next video part.
