I met AO outside the supreme store in NYC, he had double braids and looked like a hunky Wendy Mcdonald

I was a young and bugged out on him being there.

so hot
I have no idea what that is that you posted but it sounded like Mike Patton and Kevin Shields made a record on Lou Barlow's Sentridoh gear.

No idea why but I still back 917, hope he does something cool with it. An AO part would be good enough. As much as it “went down in flames” 917 gave us 2 great full length videos which is more than some other current skate companies can say.

Didn’t he roll his eyes at the question and say sure in a less than sincere manner?

I absolutely hate this. Get your weirdly moist ass out of skating. Id rather hear from Marc Johnson or Auralien Girard's grandma at this point.

given that he then called 'the homie' a delusional fuck, it actually was ironic

I mean this isn’t a ‘take’, people living under capitalism take part in capitalism. Any person in a capitalist state who wants socialism still has to take part in a capitalist state.

"If the emperor looks naked, the emperor is naked."
I hate this guy.  He gives off major trustafarian vibes.  After Pretty Sweet and starting 917, he flaked out and ran his company into the ground to where everyone quit.  He's just milking it at this point, like his dad, who concentrates on being drunk in public and creeping on way younger women.  Shit is lame.  Fuck the Olsons.

Tyrone Olson and Shorty's Steve Olson are still cool though

Honestly, was over 917 until I saw this. Didn't read anyone else's comments, but Alex seems to be pretty open and honest about himself and what happened. I'm into a really specific shape right now, but my fuck around and cop a board in the future.

Kind of liked his idea of just doing guest boards and trips. If Toy was able to have a resurgence, I feel like 917 can. Especially under Baker Boys dist.

I've always loved his skating, but this made me like him more as a person. Unafraid to say exactly how he feels and self-aware enough to admit that his actions are what ultimately lead to the dissolving of the team.
I'll buy one next time I see one at the shop.

glad to see him skating again

the guest trips idea sounds fun, could be some cool stuff that comes outta that.

This and the guest boards could be really cool. Put an ad out, PLEASE call (917)xxx-xxxx

I feel like there's plenty of people still out there killing it that are between sponsors, haven't had their name on a board in a while or are just friends/associated with the ao.

A great skater with amazing footage, and able to create a solid overall aesthetic for a brand. But, he's too scatterbrained to run the day to day of a company. He follows his passions and interests which is commendable if you have the freedom to do it, but, when other people are relying on you for their careers, you can't just switch passions on and off like that. Krooked works because Gonz is great at creating the aesthetic for Krooked, but the infrastructure behind DLX from team/brand managers and backroom staff allows it to thrive, so Gonz can be Gonz, while the boring day to day aspects of the brand is taken care of.

Very true, would be great if Alex could get a similar thing going with 917, roll Bianca into the same deal too. No reason why as well as guest boards he couldn't have guest 12" from music people too, he's mates with Eric Dunks from Rub 'n Tug and loads of other cool music people so wouldn't be a problem. Could see 917 being like stussy was in the 90s with the worldwide tribe thing, just a collective of people from various scenes who all just rep the gear, this would tie his surfing interest in too. I think he comes across as a nice, very self aware dude in interviews, just needs someone to help him funnel his ADHD into productive stuff.

I remember reading that Tommy G. would scan and color graphics Gonz would send him for Krooked. Always imagined envelopes of scraps of paper and receipts with doodles on them showing up at DLX and Tommy just shaking his head and sighing.

watching alex over the years has been so interesting. i cant imagine how much is going on in his brain at all times - it seems like it is a a lot. but i appreciate it. try and succeed or try and fail, he's all in. and whichever happens, he's not scared to address it.

i'm glad he's super unfiltered/honest and wish this interview was a lot longer.

I like that he doesn't blame other people for his own mistakes. 917 as a guest board focused company might be cool but all I'm really hoping for from that brand is a full AO part.
