Early impressions: so far… the years of ethical and philosophical discussions surrounding skateboarding at the Olympics seems like a waste of time. This looks like any other skate contest you will find on cable.

The prelims were okay, the commentary is understandably layman, the scoring is weird but whatever and the course isn’t anything amazing.

Biggest relief is that the apparel companies didn’t kook it too hard with the gear.

Some of the filming was truly horrendous

there is definitely some good skating going on but between the terrible filming and the constant 15 second commercials that appear in the middle of peoples runs and just return mid trick it's pretty hard to watch

Nyjah beefed it hard on all his early runs. Skaters need to be in the top 8 to move on, and he was sitting in 12th looking like he might go home. He did two tricks, one where he stomped the tail, and got insane scores, high enough to move him into a qualifying position.

Maybe someone with an Olympic rulebook can explain exactly why those scores were justified, but to the average Slapper, it looks highly suspect.
