Just in time for me to settle on a truck and have these spark my madness

I've been on Thunders for a while and am mostly happy. My last pair were trashed and I tried Lurpivs because I wanted something a little taller and a little turnier. I've skated them maybe 6 times now and while I'm getting used to them, I don't love them and was thinking about selling them and just getting another pair of Thunders. If I can stand these Lurpivs for a few more months, I'll just wait and will check out the new Thunders.

if you're not feeling them after that many sessions go back to what you like life is too short to put up with that if you have the finances to try something else.

What if you put a, let's say regular Thunder 148 hanger on the T-II baseplate? Just asking for a friend of course.

Don't think anyone knows yet, but from the looks of it I would assume you have a 52mm tall truck with basically no kingpin clearance that probably turns funny.

Well, to be honest, I hope there are chances that you get a 52mm tall Thunder with a slightly longer baseplate and the same kingpin clearance.

Good point, hadn't considered the baseplate.

It looks like the added height is coming from the hanger, so I would assume using the og hanger would take some kingpin clearance away. But if these have more kp clearance than OG thunders it might be worth a shot!

I will probably try this eventually if I don't like the height.

Especially if you’re older/don’t have a lot of free time to skate. Making yourself suffer gear that you don’t enjoy just because of a sunken cost fallacy is asinine. Pass the gear on to someone who’ll use it and ride what you like. I’ve had to have this discussion with myself many times.

Totally! Just got back from the skatepark and am gonna switch back to my old Thunders with a new set of bushings. They're beat up but still skateable and I bet will last a few more months.

whoa! interesting they're offering a whole other truck in the lineup. I'd be interested to see how they feel compared to the current ones. I've been riding the 148 with the inverted kingpin which i really dig so at the moment i have no interest in trying these but its a really cool idea to offer two trucks

A couple things:

1. It looks like the bottom bushing is also longer so the height could be from the hanger, but I've been told that it's both not like they probably measured.

2. One thing I've realized skating Indy and Venture a lot is height doesn't always mean everything. If the wheels are tucked in more it might end up still decently light pop feel. I find Indy Standards often pop lighter for me than Venture, which sit 1.5mm lower. It might not be a deal breaker once you try it.

I'm no expert but from looking at the side by side diagrams. putting T2 hangers on the existing baseplates is just going to compromise the geometry.  the pivot cups sit closer to the center of the baseplates on the T2s. I'd say you'd be best choosing one model over the other based on what you like to skate and how you like to turn. There again a Frankenthunder might unlock some hidden code.... I'm sure we will learn more wabout this in the Madness thread this summer.

Nice to finally see the T-II in close up photos with multiple angles. Visually I’m not sure if I like the design or not but I do like the nod to the Thunder heritage. I also like that all the hardware is silver. Cool choice on the bushing color, downside being yet another custom size/shape bushing to track down if they blow out.
Looking forward to seeing in real life.

Is it just me, or do the new "tapered" pivot cups look like Riptides?

Really looking forward to trying these out!

Riptide makes some that look exactly like the ones in the picture. My first though was that they were using Riptides, which would be nice.

I thought I wouldn't be very interested when i saw the glimpses... but now I am, curious at least.

The effective wheelbase will be quite shorter compared to current Thunders.

I wonder if they'll eventually have forged T-II's which would mean around 52.5-53mm tall.

I FW the new thunder. I’m really feeling them clear pivot cups, and the Miami dolphin color bushings. ⛽️😮‍💨
This has me cracking up, what exactly does Black Flag have to do with measuring your dick starting behind ya nuts?

I wonder if the T2s are the same height across the range of widths?

I wonder if the T2s are the same height across the range of widths?

Given that it was highlighted in the promo my guess would be they keep it consistent across all the widths.

My understanding is that the 161 and 181 ended up getting bumped up a mm in height because they were designing new hanger molds and used that as an opportunity to minimize wheel bite on the newer widths. But with a totally new truck that’s already taller than the current 161, they probably wouldn’t need to add anything extra.

Curious to see what the rollout is like and if all sizes drop at once or if they keep things limited to start.

That makes of sense. For what its worth current 161s have a nice turn that IMO improves on the other sizes I've tried (149/151). If the T2s improve on the 161s they will be great.

I would think because of the new position of the kingpins in the baseplates. The more the kingpins lean to the forbidden 14 side of a deck, the shorter the effective wheelbase is. I hope that makes sense, sometimes it's not easy to explain things if English isn't your first language. ^^

yeah but they've also re-postioned the hardware holes, so it might not impact the measurable wheelbase. either way, these will be less stable than existing thunders.

If you match the holes it really is a couple of mm only

Riptides “cracked ice” color is similar to these t2 pics. The cracked ice color seems to have a better sound than green riptide cups fwiw. That “waterlogged” sound isn’t there with them
