My biggest gripe with t2s is how much they shorten the wheelbase, its wayyyy too much for me on most boards. if the forged plate t2s extend the wb a lil bit, enough to make it feel a bit more normal, could be really good
[close]

If the T2 had a WB that was a little wider than Indy but not as pushed out as T1 I think they’d be the perfect truck
[close]

I agree w this. even if they had just indy wb for me id be content
[close]

The difference in WB between Indy and Thunder is 1/16" per truck probably hard to get manufacturing tolerances to between the two.

Expand Quote
Verdict on the T1s…..sliding on the baseplate is overrated and unnecessary, Thunders 4 Life
[close]

Once you adjust it's fine, but then you'll come back to plate slide and enjoy not having to push as hard through slides. I definitely don't miss the amount of wax I had to use with T1 and conical fulls, but at least you won't slip out.
[close]

I’m on classics, I feel like it’s a nice controllable slide, and I liked how I kinda had to push through them, did a couple long ass 50s as well, but I get what you are saying, I went to a bank to curb and was hyped on skating today, so maybe I’m being silly

We're all silly, such is gear madness. I realize my response was damping your excitement unnecessarily. I do miss T1 sometimes especially because they pair well with basically any deck that isn't 2x4 flat. You always have trade offs with trucks and wax is easy to apply but you can only do so much to fix pinch or stability issues.

So what's the best aftermarket bushings choice for T1s? Indys? I would like to have my bushings not react to temperature changes as much. When it's warmer I like how the stock bushings feel.

Tom Asta said in his most recent setup talk video that Ace low bushings were good for his IKP Thunders through the winter in the northeast where he lives. Not sure if they’d fit the same in reg kingpin Thunders, but I’m interested in a T1 bushing swap before next winter as well.

He also said that he goes thru pivot cups a lot too I’m assuming cuz they’re not the same height
I can’t stay on thunders for long but when I ride em I’ve noticed that the Indy conical 88a feels pretty much like a stock thunder when they’re at their best. Stability with enough turn
I’m sure the 90a Indy conical would feel like a 92a Thunder and so on

might not be the best but I am using Slappy 95s in both my T1 and T2 I like the rebound vs Ace Hard
I will try the "Low" versions of the Slappys when I can get my hands on them

Is anyone riding T-IIs with risers, and if so, what kind?

I have the wooden 3-Ply Risers from Real for Thunder Trucks, and was wondering if anyone skating another brand of risers has a set that is flush with the baseplate. I tried the plastic Krooked ones and those are even worse.

It doesn’t make any actual difference but my OCD makes me want the baseplates and risers to be flush, since all of the Real Risers are flush with the baseplates of the T-I, Ventures and Independent Stage 4.

I asked DLX if they were going to make a wooden riser to fit T2s properly. Matt D said he'd pass it on...

I use the Bones 1/8" risers on T2s b/c you can shift them to whatever position you want.

Ok. I need to try them at some point. Got some Indy conicals for now. They seem to be almost the same size.

Ok, I'm back to stock bushings and stickingto these for now.  ;D tried indy conical medium hards, they felt horrible, too stiff and just weird for me. seems like the bottom is at least 1mm taller too and somehow I was able to feel the difference when riding.

Was hoping to see the hollow or light version of T2s. I’m gonna have to just chin up and get the regulars.

Edit.
Stoked on cast hollow V8s like insanely stoked.
Also the grimple deck with the 8.6 x14.25 sounds amazing.

Are titanium’s not a thing anymore?

Kinda understandable if they aren't making them anymore. I use them myself but I don't think there's a huge benefit over the hollow lights except for axle strength (arguable). Glad I picked up a new set last summer.

It makes sense to shake the product tree when the economy/market is suffering. I hope they come back later. I need to stock up...

They are in the spring drop, I ride a set of Ti Light 3 on a Life skateboard that is heavy as hell, makes it manageable

I feel like Thunder t1s are the right trucks for me. Funny that Ive not ridden them for years but they feel like home. Especially love tvese 161s . Yesterday I tried my Ace Classics just for funs but I can't do them anymore. The only minus for Thunders is their temperature sensitive bushings but it doesn't bother me now since it's warmer.

I think sometimes they rotate through the roster for boards, maybe some more than others, but rest assured there is another Cromer board in future drops too.

As to Thunder bushings and temperatures, it is just starting to get a little colder here overnight, so I am curious to feel how that might change things, especially in the T-II trucks.

Of course still not half as cold as a lot of places, not even close to snow or ice, so it really doesn't matter, although it often does get down a fair bit sometimes here.

I like my T1s on a 14 or shorter wheelbase for sure, the Light 3s are on the 51mm forged baseplate.
I have been totally surprised by the fact that I feel really good and have the most consistent pop out of all the setups on the T2s with the 54mm baseplate, this is so counter intuitive to me, but honestly, the T2s are my favorite truck right now.

I will add that I cannot ride Thunder bushings of any hardness, just not comfortable on the double cone set up.
I swap them out for Slappy 95s, and as soon as I can get my hands on the Slappy Low profile bushings I will swap them out for those

For anyone curious, the inverted ace bushings are pretty close to the inverted thunder stocks and handle temp fluctuations better. Breaking in a set now and I don’t feel anything really detrimental about the slight size difference. Tbf it was very close

Do any of y’all notice a pinch difference between 149 to 148s. Been rocking my 149s w 8.25 boards lately and they are on there way out. Contemplating 148s just wanted to see if anything changes sizing down

I just noticed that. I am not surprised a lot of pros are not super eager to change their setup. they make money off skating i wouldnt want to fuck with whats been working either... i just use it as an excuse to keep running the same tricks over and over again  ;D Now if it comes the opportunity you can make MORE money off skating by using said product... lol

I think I have learned in the last few years too like whats been working for me does just work really well and I seem to skate my best when I am not thinking about the setup. Seems to be Indy strictly from a muscle memory perspective of how i set my tricks up i suppose. whne you put like 20 years on a particular setup it does kind of "set in" , especially when you consdier ther way that I skate (very regimented and dont do new tricks a lot)

So i try not to look at what a pro uses as what would be a good setup for me, i think its a good sort of line in the sand especially whne you have data across like a ton of pros too about like ok, most pros just ride the 8.5" with 8.5" trucks, a lot dont use risers, they mostly use the same brands, typically pros with bigger wheels or smaller wheels will use specific trucks, technical skaters tend to use ventures , etc.  theres things you can glean but i dont think you can just copy it and expect it to work for you necessarily.
