The next dramatic shift in skateboarding
« on: November 08, 2021, 11:22:58 PM »
Is skateboarding at its final frontier? Board shapes haven't changed since the inception of the popsicle and although skill levels are still rising are we nearing the peak of what we can do with what we have? Have we seen the last significant evolution with the changes in gear and equipment since the early 90s?

Now the loop around all old styles and board shapes starts.

I'm pretty sure there are more shapes, dimensions and sizes right now than there ever was and someone will come up with something else too.

Equipment is the best it's ever been. I don't think it's holding anyone back.
Mega ramp will evolve into entire mountain sides of ramps like a snowboard park.
Yuto, Sora Shiri, Lucas rabelo are "inventing" a bunch of disc herniation tricks.
People flip down 20s don't know how far that can go.
Kyle Walker grinds 500m long 100kink rails not sure how much people want to see more of that.

I'm sure pigs will start using drones soon and that will make street skating harder

I mean not just that but when or if that day comes where there's a new standard "shape", will there be as much of a progression shift as there was with the transition from the fish tail to the popsicle? The fish tail to the popsicle opened up an entirely new world. If anything I think shoes or even trucks will find new standards before decks will.

That's 1640ft in Freedom Units, and personally I'd be down to watch a mile-long (5280ft) 50-50 if such a rail exists. Stupid but entertaining is the American Way as I'm sure KWoks knows all too well.

What could be the “easiest“ flip in flip out trick on a handrail?
Kickflip Crooks nollieflip?
Nollie heel front tail kickflip?
Nollie heel nose nollieflip?

Kickflip noseslide nollie heel.
Heelflip in would probably be easier if people were equally good at both kickflip and heelflips but nobody does heel flips.

Skateboarding can only progress so far (big gap and crazy tech) so I think it’s going to start progressing more like Max Palmer type skating, worded that horribly but you get the point

OK, I get where you're coming from. yeah, decks won't open more doors for progression. That's down to mindset more than equipment.

Hopefully we progress to a point where everyone is grinding kwalks rails and doing jeff defartcheese flips that people finally realize how important style and execution is compared to technicality and size. A renaissance of style if you will.

Their comeback depends on if cinemas come back.

Boot cuts next micro trend. Macro trend is that everything will be cool in skateboarding, i.e. nothing is cool.
