Already seeing a rise in smaller deck sizes, for example 7.5” 7.75” for tech dude’s.

I’d love to see Winkoski ride a narrow as fuck shaped deck in a pool.

It will go full jock. There will be high school/college skate teams with practices and strategy/training sessions to make sure we take home the state title.

You got it @Mean salto
A whole bunch of tech tricks on handrails

It’s kinda odd how long it takes handrail stuff to progress but also how early it also does. Like some of danny ways handrail tricks in the 90s we’re like triple kinks and then no one stepped to that kind of stuff again till the 2000s.

Same with switch tricks I remember seeing figgy sw 5050 a rail in like 09 and then until recently no one really was doing much more than the odd 5050 or the way ahead of its time switch tre lip like greco and guy.

Or even with tech stuff. Cory did backtail big flip on a hand rail a decade ago and we’re just now getting to that stuff becoming more common.

But skating ebbs and flows in weird ways look at the new chocolate dudes that team is known for its more tech side of skating in the late 90s and 2000s and now you have dudes like carl aikens who are more just flown style dudes doing the basics.

Slap wants 7.5-7.75" SO BAD but really it isn't happening at all.  Unless you just do manuals and slow tech in suburban parking lots.

I know Andy McDonalds is trying to make "skatercross" a thing. I think it will eventually turn into a thing and there will be boards made specifically for racing .  Maybe not Andy's vision of it , but it will happen eventually i'm sure.

I really think board size making a difference is 90% in the skaters head.
I rode 7.5-7.75 from 00-05 then 8.5-8.8 until 2017 then went back to 7.75. it's mostly mental, you just have to like the look of what you're riding.

trend following checks out. they just aren't making those sizes at that capacity anymore.

i'd sooner expect a resurgence of lappers and coconut wheelies.

I think the appeal is watching people progress and express themselves, which makes skateboarding exciting and alluring imo

Let me look into my crystal ball sack and see the future

7.5 deck vert skating and freestyle come back. super skinny leggings and dressing like a dandy. Everyone skates holding a cane or skull and there’s an occasional duel at the spot/park. I think slap has been joking about this for a minute and it needs to happen.

nothing's been the since same

Well I had to be able to buy the boards so I assume they must of been popular with some group of people. Getting the bigger boards was a massive pain early on. It basically had to be a creature which were always bright green or black dips and not my vibe at all.
But following trends not so much. I'm the dork who turns up too early to a party.

I think they'll always make small boards because of kids tho.

If lappers/copers didn't just pop off I could see them potentially making a comeback. Kids use so much wax these days might as well just slide plastic.....grumble grumble.....boomer grumble....

This. I think that queer, trans, and Women skaters are going to (continue to) create the next game change. I can see skateboarding becoming hugely popular among these groups so we will see more marketing devoted towards them. And overall skateboarding become more diverse in terms of participation, fashion, and on-board styles.

And also more diverse in terms of popular skater ages, geography, and even ability. I think the idea of doing 'the next biggest stunt' as nearly the only path towards professional status is going to be less ubiquitous.

It makes me hopeful and excited for skateboarding.
Warm Up Zone. Let's watch some skateboarding videos.

I touch the ground with my toes all the time even with an 8.5. The only way we could skate those toothpicks was by tightening the trucks like mad I guess. The answer to the thread is symmetric board shapes. A real game changer.

Thift store/post-war type stuff goes out of style and skaters start to swipe Renaissance clothing from museums and private collections so they can have the sickest vintage fits.

In 40 years it'll be considered more of a gymnastic sport than an 'xTREMEEEE' one.

12 year olds will practice the same, boring routine day-in-day-out while being groomed by pedaphiliac coaches.

Time to invest in some spandex.
