17 pages in and she's still not appealing to watch skateboard and Dill is still exploiting her gender, race, and followers to cash out. Unless there is some huge community outreach on her part that we don't read about it seems like an obvious and scummy play on his part and he's gaslighting people into claiming she has good style or whatever.

Spot on.

Man, I use to be on the whole "i dont get why these girls get sponsored when i can skate better than them" train. But I'm over that.

Myabe I'm getting older, maybe SLAP is rotting my brain. But in reality, in terms of females getting sponsors/turning pro (not accolades for their skills) it really is just about marketing, and nothing else. These companies stand to tap into the growing market of female skaters by doing this, it just makes sense. So good for her and good for FA i guess.

I'm over being bitter about less skilled people getting shine, its literally NOT about skill at all, its just marketing. You're not gonna catch me out here praising Beatrice's underwhelming skateboarding though. Be happy for her, call it what it is, but dont sit here and act like "SHE'S RIPPING BRO!" that shit is so fucking phony, and honestly seems a bit patronizing. Pretty sure Beatrice knows where her skills are at in the grand scheme of skateboarding.

Side note, there are a million dudes that rip at the top level but arent hooked up, why? because theyre not marketable. That's why we have clowns like that chris kid on powell with 1" thick eyeliner skating oldschool boards. He needed to stand out/be marketable.

Good for Beatrice

amen to this. kind of a bummer when you see girls miles past that skill and skating their asses off and don't get praise because they're not marketable, that's life though and skating owes no one anything. in the end, if she gets girls skating, it's a win.

I would rather watch a Benny Magliano made Beatrice Diamond part than a modern full-length from:

-enjoi
-toy machine
-plan B
-girl
-chocolate
-buisness and company
-thank you

genuinely not trying to be contrarian here, actually just curious, but who are some of the girls who you think are skating really well but not getting recognized in the industry?

As most of you guys/gal’s know I have seen her go from grommet to pro and I’m a fan of her no doubt, I’m with a lot of others that are skeptical of her legitimacy.

Yes she’s good but her versatility is highly lacking, never saw her skate a hubba a handrail gap vert or mini ramp. Look that park she skates park vista in boynton beach is so sketchy that you can slip out because of the dust.  She skates like she’s on glass, which is great for her but for me nah I’m not going to say pro at all, shop flow at best.

Venture has already given her a truck. Yet Jason Dill is the one who cops it for capitalizing on exploiting her gender, race, and followers to fill his bank account up.  ::)

Ive seen comments about him posting or following conspiracy stuff I guess - my point was that his social media posting or following has zero to do with how he skates.

the fuck is this bullshit about exploiting her race...are you black,

I think ipathcats hit the nail on the head with that one. It’s all about marketing. It’s about appealing to a broader demographic and not just the core skater bros like back in the day.

I was waiting for this. Gary did not disappoint.

I love Beatrice too. But talking shit about her skill when she’s getting a pro board? That’s pretty much par for the course if you’re pro. Take the good with the bad.

yeah Una has a pretty legit list of sponsors, has parts on Thrasher, and correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t there an active thread about her turning pro for Krooked soon? I probably like her skating more than Beatrice’s but I don’t think she’s a great example of someone who isn’t being recognized properly.

ultimately i just don’t find it to be a compelling argument that beatrice is “taking someone else’s spot who deserves it more” or whatever. beatrice made her way in the industry over the past decade or so and her being successful isn’t preventing Una or any other woman from achieving the same success, quite the opposite imo. i find it far more likely that Krooked will actually go “oh damn, look at what FA did with Beatrice, we should probably do the same with Una” than the opposite.

So late in the night for me but yeah, I had to comment. Just my opinion..una should have been pro a year ago and gottwig should have been pro 5 years ago. Krooked is an elevated brand so I get it also, but if she skated regular I would not back her at all, or as much. Goofy skating only. Beatrice has amazing style and I love what she's been capable to do. I made the post about Tubsy. I appreciate the last part. I'm not too good at highlighting those quotes but I mentioned above Sam narvaez and Amanda France are other notable female street skaters. I wanted to say more here but I didn't. Beatrice is the truth.

She’s not good at skateboarding, but the skill level is not important anymore!
We live in a time where social media, followers and some other things decide if you go pro or not.
To that dude saying her style is amazing... come on!!!!

Also Amanda France skates mostly parks but she has the best street style. In my opinion.

Its not even up for debate that this is a gestural decision - and if it means more black female pros and more visibility for black female skateboarders or female skaters of any ethnicity then thats all right. Its opening the doors and helping pave a route at the very least. I don't think you need to worry about your precious realm of professional skateboarding being jeopardized. there will always be people who see life as one big competition.

Its 2022 and we still talking about opening the door for more diversity in skating ,  so the consensus is skateboarding is still gatekeeping
