Completely understand a company wanting to profit off cultural trends. The biggest turn off to me was the tweet about her losing faith in FA because they hadn’t turned her pro yet. I’m sorry but skateboarding has never shy’d away from calling someone a kook, and I think Beatrice is an absolute kook.

You guys realise she's a model and has 89k followers on Insta right? I'm sure that has more to do with her going pro than her skating skills

I think it's nice she doesn't have to ride for Krux to get coverage. You gotta give her that. If the angle is "Bill and Dill have been supporting this girl's skating for 7 years because they didn't want her to ride Krux ever," well, that's an interesting angle

She shouldn’t even be flow for Krux my dude.
Haley and Eunice (flow for Krux) both skate better than her.

Dill and AVE are just barbarically profiting off a certain demographic / minority. Until she’s not gonna be the hot thing anymore. Money talks.

You either know that or you’re deluded.

Damn looking though her IG real quick, that lady can fucking skate. Also she has really nice style, skates with speed and has more than 3 tricks in her bag.

y’all need to let this thread go. we’ve all fetishized getting “good enough” to turn pro at some point, but we’ve always known that skill has never been the deciding factor in getting a board. anyone with more skill that didn’t turn pro either lacked something else or their skate community failed them.

stop gatekeeping something from the outside. we’re just consumers to brands, regardless of our level of commitment to “the culture.” they just wanna bring money in and support their homies when/if they can. they’re not trying to maintain some idealistic standard of “pro skater” like this thread expects them to. they’ll give a board to whoever they decide to, as they always have.

fact is: she’s pro. let it go.

Okay kook me, but what does pro mean?

In this instance, that she has her name on a board. I guess FA hope that her being linked to their brand will help sell product, much like pretty much every other person that gets put on a brand.

It's entirely possible that no one is mad or tryna (sic) pretend this is the first time someone with lack luster (sic) abilities was turned pro, but rather, this is fertile ground for a good ribbing and collective laugh at the ridiculousness of the elevated status of "professional" in skateboarding.

I’m wondering if we can’t find a better word than ‘pro’ for the niche Beatrice is filling. I think the problem is we don’t  have the language to describe Beatrice’s role.

‘Professional’ does imply a certain level of skill (it does in any other profession), so if she’s getting a board based on other qualities too (which doesn’t bother me, the goal is to flog bloards) there should maybe be another term we can use to describe that.

Well, 'deserves a board' and all the rest of the time honored phrases, 'get a board' ect. that people would say -those phrases are from a time when skating was alot different then it is now.  We're talking pre video game and pre x game and pre big corporate involvement (and the dreaded studded belt image phase).  So personally that's what gets me more.  People going on as if skate culture wasn't a super dead fucking horse years and years ago.  I mean actual skating?  skateboarding the act itself I love and I skate sometimes when the ground is wet even.  So there's still that. Why bother berating the young lady, really?  I'm done personally with shitting on successful or unsucessful people.

Momiji did a 5-0 front shove out down a 12 stair in the last sls (altho didn't get a roll away but I think did it in practise). But I guess that's nothing like a flatbar

can't remember the love letters episode where grosso talks about the modern definition of pro status compared to his day, i think he said it was meant to let you know what level you competed on.

Yes that is possible but unlikely (and I agree on the laughability). It's more probable that some ppl are actually mad, because A. this is Slap. and B. some of the tones observed in this particular thread were clearly salty and not playing into the "laugh at the ridiculousness".

My bad. I wasn't saying everyone was mad or that you are mad, but the fact that u took this personal and wanted to point out some slang that I typed makes me think u might b mad haha

There was a clip of her (that I filmed) in his Loveletters to female skaters.
