Style has always mattered and thankfully not everyone subscribes to the jock mindset on display in this thread. Dill is a kook, but not because he's given spots on the FA team to Aiden Mackey or Beatrice.
Style on a board matters. Being decked out in Supreme isn't in my opinion. I'd rather watch pros do tricks well over doing hard ones that are ugly. I don't think either Aidan or Beatrice skate with much style. It's not like we are talking about someone like Huf who while having limited trick selection, does the tricks he does insanely well (fast, popped and clean).

If style matters then what's your actual point, also please highlight all the jock stuff you're referencing Beatrice.

My point is that sometimes a lot of people are hyped on skaters based on their style more than their actual skill level. You can sit and try to put metrics on pro skill level (jock shit) like has been going on in this thread (like when you said she couldn't flip trick in a line), but it's harder to measure what you call "hype." It includes style and other intangibles that draw people to something/someone (like how Beatrice has a career and you don't even though you might have a "better" heelflip than her). @DannyDee you have a point with the Supreme marketability thing and I'd never mention either of those two in the same style discussion as Huf, but whether we like it or not marketability has always been a part of pro skateboarding. It's an industry based on it.

And I get why people feel her story is "hollow" as a skateboarder. It for sure wasn't a traditional pro journey, but she's not a traditional pro skater (she's not a white dude). Again, I fully recognize she's not nearly as core or purely "skateboarder" in the classic sense that other black women (like Samarria and im sure many undiscovered talents) truly are. But I still haven't read a single salient argument against the fact that one black woman in skating getting shine benefits other black women in skateboarding. This is regardless of skill. I'm sure there are black girls who see a big name like Beatrice, get into skating, then discover the marginalized history of women in skating and say fuck it, im gonna fucking do this. We can sit here and say she's not a real pro, she can't skate, etc etc but please hate on this without sounding like some old head gatekeeping jock

You miss the point. She acts like she's core, and like she is actually good enough to be pro. As it's been said OVER AND OVER there are female skaters of color who are way better and more inspirational on a board period. If Beatrice inspires ppl imagine what vitoria who's legitimate will do.

I fuckin love to imagine it. I just don't like to act like I get to decide who's excluded from skating and who isn't.

For the record I just watched like nearly every little video interview she did a few years back because I realized I'd never actually heard her speak and wanted to find out for myself if she really had these crazy narcissistic vibes. Very positive, very unassuming, a bit naive at worst. In the Jenkem interview, when asked if she saw herself as a role model/special pro she replied (paraphrasing here), "Fuck no, I wasn't even really aware of it. I just wanted to skate." Dill or Fat Bill weren't there to coach her or drape her in Supreme.

Scrolled through insta. Lots of posts of her art, poetry, one word or lyrical captions. Lots of love from the likes of Elissa Steamer (one who gets it) on her pro board posts. Noticed she's amped and pissed in her story, probably because she's being informed of posts like this in the days leading up to a video release:

No fuckin way should this human be collecting a paycheque to ride a skateboard, are you kidding me

It's fucking amazing you tell me I miss the point when you couldn't hit it if it was right in front of you. I would love to find more examples of other women in skateboarding being hyped on this woman in skateboarding. I'll keep my eye out.

You're responding to two people, also you obv aren't hip to the fact that as a pro skater you're supposed to act a certain way and like certain things everyone else does or you get washed out. Worst example really of how anyone really feels.

Of course I’d say that. Based on what tho?

It's the most simple minded 'shut down' that sounds very clever. Kinda like saying 'awkward' when someone else has an opinion that you can't invalidate without taking personal shots.

I mean shit, why does a woman not thinking Beatrice should be pro sound jealous to you? When dudes talk shit on slap about other dudes being pro when they think their undeserving, it's rarely, if ever out of jealousy. Weather you agree with sle_epy's comments about Beatrice or not (I personally disagree with some of them myself), it's pretty clear it has nothing to do with sle_epy's own skill level. Look, if there's a discussion being had on here about women's skateboarding, maybe let's not dismiss seemingly the only woman involved in said discussion?

It sets the bar for female pro skaters extremely low after being told for twenty years that females suck and will never equate to men or be as good due to physical limitations. It erases female contributions before her too for everyone but those of us who disagree despite those women (some still active) being so much better than her.

It's upsetting that despite the fact so many females have killed it she's somehow the most visible and popular. Like what don't you actually get. Andy Anderson is inspiring to ppl who'd be kooked off this board in 5 seconds and he doesn't even have an actual attitude. this is such a stupid fucking conversation.

She has in no way erased any female contributions to skateboarding to me or to probably a large portion of people who also don’t have a problem with her. You seem to be speaking for all female skaters. What I actually don’t get is why some posters on here seem extremely upset over someone who also skates. She’s not hurting anyone. There’s so much anger.

Man, with all the women in this thread or on slap I guess you're right! I should just shut the fuck up, and let all the other women here speak up and share their opinions. I assure you that you do not care about women's skating like a woman who actually skates for real does. My opinion isn't speaking for all female skaters and it never would, but it's more valid than yours. This is far more nuanced than you think. Keep being an observer.

We should finally normalize being able to take and give critic no matter how a person looks.
It's crazy that we haven't.
BUT I also think that the more we post on here the more bitter the accusations towards her are getting.
Might also be just because its getting repetitive and no new points are made but some people throw in the race card and
then it needs to be explained again that the last 50 pages are not based on racism.
The whole thing is a sick loop hole and explains pretty good why america will never heal from its history.

I wish every person that skates would turn pro. I love every person that I had no history with equally.
There should be enough space for all of us. Black, White, Asian, hispanic all the other thousand ethnicities, Gay, Transgender, Handicapped. I wish every individual had someone that looked like them and had someone to look up to.
Nobody should feel left off.
But skating also shouldn't be about making it. It's not about throwing product under your name on the market.
It's about landing and battling tricks. jumping over your own shadow.
This thread is about beatrice getting a little to much ego and it is well documented that thats the case.

let her alone for now.

I’m definitely not telling you to shut up. I just can’t grasp why you’re not in full support of any skater who is inspiring to others, especially a female. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but all this anger (from you and others) seems ridiculous. I’ll let you all continue to be mad. I just wanted to say I didn’t have a problem with her to maybe add a different voice in here.

Basically, she lacks skills, and is pro for some reason? And has all these sponsorships and deals while there is so many other woman or woman of color for that matter that are actually skilled at skating. There are people on here who are hyped for her because she's black. That's just the synapsis of the thread from all that I've read. If I'm missing anything, feel free to add?
[close]

At the end of the day, aren’t the questions here the same ones being asked about Gino in the Asics threads?   Why is this underperforming person given all the opportunities and marketing dollars?

The answer for some in the Gino thread: legacy of style makes him forever relevant.   Seemingly the answer to the Beatrice ?: it’s important to highlight and represent a black female skater.

If people like it, it’ll stay.

If they don’t, it won’t last.

No one buys things they don’t like.

On a side note…

I’ve noticed that this place seems to love being hyper critical of black skaters and always tries to make them the butt of a joke.

For as progressive as people here like to signal themselves as being, none of this seems to be said in jest.
[close]

Your avatar is Biebel...you should know how slap works.

Ishod is considered by most  here as the this generation goat...Antwuan receive all the love for being what he is.
Keenan, TX, Stevie etc.

This case is not about race, but skills. She sucks and has a bad style with a big ego.
[close]

I love your name. One of my favorite Tour de France riders.

There seems to be a trend in how people talked about the skaters, and Beatrice is another casualty.

Ishod is a goat, and will be Koston status soon.

Most on here weren’t around for Keenan.

Twuan, yeah I agree.
[close]

Tadej is the best charisma in tour.

But, lets talk about Biebel, he got canceled here before the homeless guy incident...his ultra white teeth, al that meat head shit, roids, India etc...as a talented white guy slap fired him and I agree.

Zach Allen got the same hate because his low skills on a board, but dude got better and turned pro. Now most of slapers loves him...I hope Beatrice do the same...get better and improve her style, because she is a pro and sells product with her name on it. The hate tends to get bigger.
[close]

came here just to say Zach Allen is still bad

Honestly, that's kind of sad.

This thread is about beatrice getting a little to much ego and it is well documented that thats the case.

let her alone for now.

In the realm of skating I agree, it's the simplest thing because you can just be a skater and everyone knows what that means if you actually do it. Especially as a pro. The real world needs a lot more work and I wouldn't be so vocal in any other space, but here it's so clear cut and so many of us agree that it's not about race or gender and clearly illustrate our points to that effect.

I don’t see the problem with her at all. She’s obviously inspiring to some people and that’s awesome.

It sets the bar for female pro skaters extremely low after being told for twenty years that females suck and will never equate to men or be as good due to physical limitations. It erases female contributions before her too for everyone but those of us who disagree.

[close]

I’m definitely not telling you to shut up. I just can’t grasp why you’re not in full support of any skater who is inspiring to others, especially a female. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but all this anger (from you and others) seems ridiculous. I’ll let you all continue to be mad. I just wanted to say I didn’t have a problem with her to maybe add a different voice in here.

Well, women don't exist as a single large entity that support each other always in a male space no matter what. We are way beyond that in skateboarding even if we aren't in many other areas socially.

If you're a fan of women's skating you have every right to be upset that despite many examples of the bar being set higher for 30 years, this is where we are at. It is literally infuriating and I know you just do not get it because you aren't a female skater.

Keep implying that me being mad about something I care about, that you think is clearly different to men caring about men's skating, is irrational. Nothing has changed at all. You clearly see mens and women's skating as different while I see skating as skating and see zero reasons why women shouldn't be just as dope, just as proper, just as worthy.

Y'all shit all over men you don't think deserve it but here I am calling out another female for it with receipts and examples, and you are shitting on me. Save it for your wife or girlfriend, not that she deserves it either.

Edit: I'm so tired of arguing with men about women's skating. I have an all guy crew and I'm just like where the fuck do you guys come from because none of them act like you. Do you just constantly touch your board when you do tricks, are you thirsting over very female at the skate park who does a fakie shuv, why do you think your points are overly valid... Why do you think female skating deserves a different lense than male skating, do you literally just ignore evey female who came before the most recent one, why isn't a female skaters opinion as valid as yours. Why is it a constant uphill battle with you to just understand the literal basics of being a female skater or a skater in general. Stop applying different standards to men versus women.

As long as they’re not hurting anyone it’s all good. Don’t lump me in with the morons of this site. I’m definitely not shitting on you. YOU replied to me being positive and now you’re all up in arms accusing me of a bunch of shit I never said or implied.

Well I'm sorry I wasted time responding to an I skate for fun skater. I don't care about you honestly. Have fun skating. Your reading comprehension is weird btw I clearly transitioned from talking to you and went into the broader spectrum of male skaters here.

However your lack of nuance in opinion says to me that you are not well versed in this donny, and popping in with no frame of reference. So save it. I wish more people payed attention when it came to literature or writing in highschool. Jesus H fucking Christ.

I wasn’t aware there was any other reason to skate than for fun. I’m off for now, but at least I got you to stop spewing anger towards Beatrice for a few minutes. Let’s just hope she doesn’t start wearing a durag, y’alls heads are gonna explode.
