Beatrice gets a lot more hate than she deserves and i’m not upset in the slightest that she’s pro but hearing her openly admit she’s not the kind of skater that “tries” is kinda wild. i can understand why some folks would think someone that’s transparent about having that attitude towards skating that also doesn’t produce much maybe hasn’t earned their place in the culture, idk
Personally, I’m not mad either. It’s just that I don’t get it. What am I missing that has so many people (industry and fans) so thrilled with her that she gets all these opportunities? It can’t be that generational, she’s not that much younger than me, but maybe?
I don’t buy the representational thing, or I feel like it’s a cop out answer. Asian Americans seemed to get stoked on Jeremy Lin because Linsanity happened and he was for a time one of the best players in the league. I didn’t see anyone stoked that he just made a roster. Beatrice is just modern Gino without ever having been 90s/Yeah Right Gino.
